  1. That wave pool (they have two) has been closed all year; now we know why. It's also located at the very back of the water park, with absolutely nothing but trees behind it, so the possibilities are endless.
  2. And at the same time, there are 40+ year old steel coasters that out there still chugging away that haven't had full track replacements (see: any permanent installation Schwarzkopf). Some of them probably have higher peak G-force numbers than MF too.
  3. I think that was Ouimet's pet project. Think about it...the two (I stand corrected again) that were installed were in 2014 and 2015, and we haven't seen any dark rides since, and he isn't with CF anymore. But you know what, go on believing that the Point is getting some super-elaborate dark ride for 2020. I'm done trying to explain why its an unlikely outcome. Keep the dream alive.
  4. I stand corrected...they've built ONE dark ride in their entire recent history. "Celebrating the coliseum" can mean literally anything...from a ride in it all the way down to banners. Seriously don't get yourself worked up about this.
  5. Given that Cedar Fair, to my knowledge, has never installed a dark ride of any type to any of its parks, yeah I'd say it'd be something "big."
  6. Unlike the American Dream, this actually has a chance at staying open past a year, if it does ever open.
  7. KD's fireball, machine gun fire, and helicopter movement were all MIA when I was there mid-June. It was definitely better back in the day.
  8. Rides with less demand, like Boomerang went right to 10, but RoS seemed to close up a few minutes early. I just wish they’d be open even later than 10. I just don’t get why theme parks all close so early. I was at CP last weekend, and I heard a good amount of people wondering why they aren’t open until 11 or later. I guess most people just don’t want to come to the parks at night. Always baffled me since I’ve always found it a better experience riding coasters at night. 14 and 15 year olds, a large portion of the amusement park labor force, are prohibited by federal law from working after 9 PM. Might have something to do with it.
  9. Yes, but not typically due to gross structural failure such as this, and not typically to such disastrous results. In fact, the only recent even similar incident that comes to mind was the one at the Ohio State Fair, but that was a traveling carnival, not a permanent amusement park such as this. In fact, let's go. Here are all of the deaths or injuries incurred at US parks due to negligent maintenance or random structural failure (source: Wikipedia): -1930, Krug Park, 4 deaths due to a loose bolt -1998, Disneyland, death due to improper replacement of a rope -1999, Gillian's Wonder Pier, 2 deaths due to faulty brakes -2001, SFDK, minor injury due to improper replacement of a pneumatic valve -2003, Disneyland, death due to a derailment due to improper maintenance. -2007, Kentucky Kingdom, injury due to faulty cable -2010, Trimper's Rides, 3 injuries due to a failed cable -2011, Morey's Piers, 5 minor injuries due to a broken mast on a swinging ship -2011, Storybook Land, 3 injuries due to structural failure Should I even try to list all of the similar deaths or injuries at traveling carnivals or third-world parks?
  10. Dorney to SFGAdv is about an hour and a half depending on traffic.
  11. And this is why you don't ride amusement rides in third world countries.
  12. This new bathroom is circled in red. The next nearest ones are circled in yellow. Yeah, I'd say it was needed.
  13. Just to clarify the actual name of the Seaside Heights coaster that took a bath. Jet Star, a Schwarzkopf, was the coaster that occupied that spot for 30 years before being replaced by the piece of crap Miler that was Star Jet, which totally deserved the dip in the ocean.
  14. Yeah, bigger LOL to not getting the Flash Pass. Have fun getting on like 4-5 rides all day.
  15. Boldy will chime in here I'm sure, but you can't go wrong with any of the following: Geno's* (9th and Passyunk) Delassandro's (northeast) Steve's Prince of Steaks (few locations, though I'm pretty sure only the Center City one is open for the summer) Jim's (on South Street) Ishkabibble's (also on South Street) *Some may call it a tourist trap, but it's still the 2nd best cheesesteak I've ever had (whiz and American without), and I've been to all of the above. 1st best is White House in Atlantic City.
  16. It's also okay to agree with him. I have no stake in this fight, since I've never been to Universal (and likely never will), but yeah everything said about this ride sounds objectively "not that great." I don't think anyone is saying it's a "bad" ride, just that it's kinda mediocre, and in light of what it replaced, a disappointment.
  17. In my experience, parks don't get too crazy for 4th of July when its in the middle of the week (like it is this year). You may luck out and not need FL.
  18. Tornado at that Finnish park shares nothing with Volcano except the train design. It doesn't have an overly-complicated dual-launch that was Volcano's major problem.
  19. And the next time a major hurricane hits, it can get demolished just like SFNO. Even Disney can't stop mother nature.
  20. Great review Chuck! I was at the park on Saturday too, and caught the parade show down in Candy Apple Grove. It really impressed me, especially how long the parade route is, though the same song blaring over and over must get on employee's nerves. At least it was a catchy song. Also, Tomb Raider/The Crypt's fire effects were working. Can't remember the last time I'd seen that. It looks like the whole pool at the bottom is full of some sort of flammable liquid the way the flames were dancing on it. EDIT: YouTube is being a pain in the ass with rotating the video. Any thoughts?
  21. No, Eugene Mulvihill revolutionized (and basically invented) the water park industry. He also had a storied past with the law. Jeff Henry just took what Mulvihill did (both in the industry and his private life) to the extreme. And yes, you can "separate the product from the person," but you can't separate where your tourism dollars go. Some people chose not to support Henry's endeavors, and that's their right to do so, regardless of how "awesome" his parks were.
  22. I305 doesn't really have the same kind of violent ejector air that Twisted Timbers does, plus the insane speed helps hold them on your face.
  23. A-holes gonna be a-holes anywhere, it has nothing to do with Six Flags. Your location says Chicago; I can guarantee the city is more dangerous than the park. And why are you surprised it didn't make the news? Every little scuffle isn't news worthy. More power to you for going to other parks. When I was there in 2017, I found SFGAm quite charming compared to my local SF parks (SFA and SFGAdv), and thoroughly enjoyed more than just Whizzer.
  24. The price difference on Friday is only $20. I would definitely work on my friends and explain to them how the regular FL at $79 is a complete waste of money but the FL+ at $99 is totally worth it because the only rides you'll really need FL on are only on plus. Hell, if you financial situation allows it I'd offer to pay the difference for them. It will seriously make your day a hundred times better.
