  1. I didn't see a MCBR on the POV video, so I'm thinking only one train on the course at a time.
  2. As far as I remember the "solar over parking lot" plan was shot down; this is being built in undeveloped land behind/off to the side of the park.
  3. One of the designers of the Beast, Jeff Gramke, still works for the park and has discussed this at enthusiast events before. The maintenance staff has done all the modifications to those trains, from shorting the cars, to changing the lap bars, adding the seat belts, and the headrests. Those trains are the original trains, or at least pieces of them are I have no idea what percentage is original at this point. I recommend going to Coasterstock and asking him yourself. He is doing a Q&A during the event this year. Although if you have been in previous years he has explained in the past why the cars were shorted and how it was done. I'll take your word for it, but color me skeptical. Just seems like something a major park wouldn't do, even in the '70s/'80s. Great photos...thanks!
  4. Yeah, its only something I've read about online and figured by the configuration of the air-gate-rows in the station (4 then a space, not 3 then a space like every other coaster that runs 3-bench PTC trains). This is the only picture I've been able to find: Haha no they did not just "chop off a row." That's the most GP thing I've heard on here in a while.
  5. Based on almost every one of his posts, I'd be surprised if he's been to any parks outside of Tampa, and even that one is pushing it. His title says it all.
  6. Forget that, I want to see the 4-row cars that it supposedly launched with.
  7. Seems like a whole lot of speculation to me.
  8. I'm not Robb, but I can answer. I've been riding it every year for the past 8+ years, including 2018 before it closed, and it hadn't degraded at all during that time. In that time it's always had issues and from 2010-2017 it was "one ride only on FL+" and always had a substantial line. I have to admit I'm not happy about this at all. Volcano was in my top 10 steel coasters just for that launch and the uniqueness of the ride. I'm definitely sad to see it go and am happy I was able to get a ride in this past year. On the plus side, at least it wasn't Avalanche too.
  9. I think might be a violation of the ToS (sec. 14) [mods forgive me if he was given approval], but otherwise nice video.
  10. This is simply not true. Why wouldn't you just google this before you posted something like that? Wildwood Splash Zone Water Park to White House: 119.73 miles Wildwood Splash Zone Water Park to Empire State Building: 129.32 miles #themoreyouknow *sigh* You just don't get it. "As the crow files" means nothing. White House to Splash Zone: 3h 51m, 188 miles drive route Google Maps Empire State to Splash Zone: 2h 45m, 158 miles drive route Google Maps Nice try though.
  11. It shouldn't matter. In 2017 I bought a pass online through CP's website but MiA is the first park I ended up going to, it processed just fine and I've got a Michigan's Adventure logo on the back of the card. In 2018 I renewed through KD's Website and when I went to KD the first time, they scanned the card and printout at the parking booth and said it was good to go, so I've still got the same MiA card.
  12. For what its worth I've got your back. Lower-income peoples generally have greater propensity to commit theft, drug use/dealing, and other such disorderly-conduct-type crimes. To say that you don't want people who tend to engage in such activities at a theme park does not make you a racist. Facts are facts and some people (see what I did there?) have trouble accepting that.
  13. Psh. It's obviously a giga flyer dive wing coaster.
  14. All of the following are as large or larger than the waterpark will be at American Dream, and are within a two hour radius of the park, as competition for Hurricane Harbor: -Mountain Creek, Vernon -Wildwater Kingdom, Allentown PA -Morey's Ocean Oasis, Wildwood -Morey's Raging Waters, Wildwood -Splash Zone, Wildwood -Breakwater Beach, Seaside Heights -Runaway Rapids, Keansburg You can come up with a million reasons why none of those parks "count" as competition for HH, and every one of those reasons other than "it's not near NYC" will apply for American Dream as well. The only people who will possibly go to American Dream instead of Hurricane Harbor are from the city. A demographic they can more than keep. The amount of times that HH "hits capacity" is also vastly overblown. It happens may 3 or 4 times a year, on super-hot days. I'm never one to defend Six Flags, but they have probably the longest lazy river in the region, and every type of slide you could want other than a water coaster and capsule drops. Tube slides, body slides, speed slides, mat-racer, giant family raft, and a tornado. What more do you want? No waterpark has unique rides...there are only so many variants of water slide in existence. I can tell you that as "basic" as it is, it has three to four times the amount of things (separate slides, lazy river, wave pool, this new pool, and kiddie areas) to do than the waterpark at American Dream will ever have. You're also ignoring the key fact that American Dream will never, ever open. This is NJ. They'll mysteriously "run out of funds" and demand more from the state government, or some NIMBY group, the Giants/Jets, or some developer that didn't get their fair share will file lawsuit to stop it. Just you wait.
  15. Holy shit they remembered they own a water park! $5 they're feeling the heat from the new American Dream water park finally opening this year. LOL. That would require... 1. American Dream to actually open. It won't. 2. The two parks to share a market. They don't, despite the close proximity. They're not concerned about Mountain Creek/Action Park, which is a substantially larger and bigger waterpark than whatever ends up at American Dream, either, because they don't share a market. My understanding is that it's going largely where King Kobra (the red/white slide in that picture) was, in addition to that large open sand area, which has always been a large open sand area. They used to use that area for concerts...I remember seeing Third Eye Blind there back in like 2005.
  16. That doesn't make you racist, it makes you a savvy consumer who doesn't support racism with your spending dollars (which this isn't really; discriminatory sure but I'm not really sure it elevates to that kinda level). I have zero desire to go to any Chinese parks and ride their cobbled together, rusting-out, contraptions or do any sort of tourism in China. Does that make me a racist? No, it makes me someone who values their life and doesn't want to support oppressive communist regimes who couldn't come up with an original idea if their existence depended on it. And, @bill_s, LOL at the concept of China having any sort of sensible legal system. You're talking about the land of copyright infringement.
  17. At a certain point, I would get tired of being "Chinard" as you put it and stop going to these kind of places.
  18. I disagree, shortening the ride cycle would actually lower the temperature of the motors. Each time the pendulum changes direction so does the motors. During the direction change the magnetic fields in the motors will collapse as the drives slows the motors in preparation for the direction change. When the drives begins turning the motors the other direction, the motors will draw a lot of current (in-rush current) in order to recreate the magnetic fields lost during the direction change. With each direction change the motor temperature will increase as a result of the in-rush current. By decreasing the number of swings the motors won't get as hot. Thanks for the backup. At least someone else knows how electric motors work LOL.
  19. I guess I need to ride more Boomerangs then. The only standard Boomerang I've ridden is the one at Six Flags St. Louis and it sucks, so my opinion on Boomerangs is low in that sense. I guess with new trains it's a good bargain Yeah. I agree that the bad ones can be bad, but the good ones are pretty good. If you end up in Wildwood don't miss Morey's. Despite the old (original?) trains, it rides better than any old-school Vekoma should. Same goes for their SLC.
  20. Perhaps because, if well maintained and/or have good trains, they're solid rides that deliver 6 inversions, at a low price.
  21. You're crazy. Running the ride LESS will not wear out an electrical motor faster. And how would someone taking their phone out in any way affect the machinery?
