  1. This is seriously frightening to me. I'm not sure about the U.S., but here in Canada, I know that fairground and traveling ride regulations are different from those for permanent rides in theme parks. I always feel completely safe going on rides at Wonderland, regardless of what kind of accidents happen internationally, but this scares me. I love fairground rides and we get a lot of carnivals and fairs in my town throughout the summer, but lately I'm not so sure about them anymore. Safety regulations just aren't what they should be here for rides like that. I'm just glad that more people weren't hurt, and that there were no deaths.
  2. Well, I've recently had quite a few "girls night out" type things, so here are a couple of pictures.. Me and my ladies. I'm on the far right. Here is me in the aftermath of our most recent night out.
  3. So I have two jobs, one as a sales associate at Bath & Body Works one day a week, and one as a dog groomer at PetSmart. I'm second-guessing the dog groomer thing, though. I've only been at PetSmart for like 5 months, my arms are already scarred from bad dogs, and yesterday one of our more experienced girls got pretty much attacked by a dog. Stitches around her eye and everything. So yeah, I'm now considering starting to apply around again. That stress of possible injury plus certain difficult people to work with are starting to really not look worth the good hours/pay. I might go for something closer to my field of study - tourism. Any suggestions (I live in a fairly small town about an hour outside of Toronto)?
  4. Okay, so there's this cute little ice cream shop near where I live, and having been in there a number of times, I never noticed a shelf of very strange little children's books until my last visit the other day. I snapped a picture of one to give you an idea of what was there... Awesome.
  5. Work is always getting in the way of my doing fun things. Unfortunately, I need the work money to do the aforementioned fun things. It's the viscous circle that is life. And so, I am moving "win the lottery" to the top of my to-do list.
  6. My two current favorite iPhone apps are DoodleJump (which I think somebody here already mentioned - insanely addictive and fun to compete with your friends!) and Angry Birds. Both are $0.99 games, I think, but if you know what you're doing, you can get them for free.
  7. ^ HAHA! Too true! Though I'm not sure I could ever peg one single favorite Sue moment. I am glad that we got so much Sue time this week, though! I also think it's building up to the finale really nicely, and I'm excited to see how it all plays out!
  8. ^ That explains it. That was my first year in Canada after moving from the Cayman Islands. But hopefully another one will make it's way to Toronto one day! Looks like it would have been a cool experience.
  9. My home park is Canada's Wonderland. I can see the OP's point, but I never seem to get bored of it. It's really the only park nearby... I'd have to cross the border or go to Quebec before I find another amusement park. For me, I usually visit twice a year - once on a quiet day in the summer, and once for Halloween Haunt. I really do enjoy it every time, in fact, I still get impatient in the spring for it to open. Honestly though, I think the majority of the fun I have when I go is because of the people who I'm with. Even if we've all been on all of the rides hundreds of times and we got on them all in a few hours, it's easy to blow a whole day at a park when you're laughing and having a good time with some good friends. Maybe I'd feel differently if I had another park or two nearby, but I guess without that luxury, I just don't know what I'm missing. I only get to visit other parks every few years or so.
  10. What?! And I missed it?? Where was I? Haha, I would have loved to ride this, if only just to say that I did!
  11. I have a cousin with asperger's syndrome and to me, this is absolutely heartbreaking. I don't care how old you are, aren't we at a place yet where we can have some respect for people with disabilities? I only wish I was standing in line behind them when this happened so that somebody could put them in their place. People who do things like this to people - disabled or otherwise - need to learn some serious lessons. And while I do agree that "where was the supervision?" is a major question here, I can also understand why that might not have been on the mother's mind. If most people were to meet my cousin, you probably wouldn't think he's autistic or disabled at all. He can be a little awkward in conversations sometimes and he's quite timid, but other than that he's just a normal kid, and very very smart. So I wouldn't think anything of my 13-year-old cousin doing his own thing at a theme park. But now that I think about it, if somebody tried to pick a fight with him like that, he probably wouldn't do anything, either, as in this situation. It's truly sad when we think that an autistic child has finally made enough progress and is old enough to go off and do his/her own thing, and then it turns out that they can't even have that freedom yet, not because they haven't worked for it, but because we can't trust other people. The number of witnesses there must have been! It's upsetting.
  12. ^ I agree! Robb's post actually got me thinking from another perspective and I found myself arguing against my own original point of view. It was nice, haha. I still also think that this will do really well, but certain people will continue to feel left out unless, like I said, they go so far as to give an audio-tour or something. Which, to me, wouldn't be very much fun.
  13. Disney's Haunted Mansion was my first ever dark ride, and that's probably the reason why it's my long time favourite. No matter how many times I ride it, it always seems as magical as the first time! Not many things you can say that about, haha.
  14. ^ I see where you're coming from there, Robb haha. As someone who has only recently (the last book/movie or two) taken an interest in the series, I can understand where you're coming from. If I had still never looked at the series at all, and heard about this park, I probably would feel the same way. The Lost Continent was great for that, because just about anybody could walk in and take in the scenery and not have to have an entire back-story to understand what it was all about. This is a little bit different. If you have absolutely no idea about the series and no interest in the franchise, you'll probably walk in and be like, "Well this is cool, but what is going on?" Now that being said, it's still going to do extremely well because there are so many Harry Potter fans who are bound to come check it out. Universal probably won't even have to make it more friendly to those who don't know the series, because it'll do so well regardless. It would be nice if they did open it to a wider audience, though. True, but think about it. If you didn't know anything about the series, walked in and were standing around in Hogsmeade, you'd still probably say "This is cool, but - Honedukes? Zonkos? Ollivanders? I have no idea what any of this is about." And there's honestly not much they can do about that, short of giving an audio-tour or something.
  15. I am so dark! I mean, I'm part Jamaican, so I'm always darker than most people in the little Canadian town I live in, but this is crazy. I might already be finished tanning for the whole summer, and I was only in the sun for two days. Wow.
  16. I really really liked the Pokerface cover. I agree that it wasn't at all the mother-daughter song I had in mind, haha, but I really liked the cover. It could be because I've grown to dislike the original for being overplayed, but I just liked it. I also agree that the Curt-Dad-Finn scene was intense! I think overall it was a really good episode!
  17. Has anyone else seen all of the Joe Rogan youtube videos? Not his comedy ones, but just the ones of him talking about the world. I was watching them today, listening to his views on life, drugs, etc. and I found it really interesting. Got me thinking. I also think it's interesting how different the views on marijuana are in the US vs. Canada. Everyone, even the law, is so chill about it here. I think it's only a matter of time before it's legal here, while the US government are hell bent on making sure it stays illegal. They're actually the main reason why it's not legal here yet. Personally, I'm pretty indifferent on it; I think that people are going to do it no matter what the law says. Just a thought!
  18. It's summer! Break out the dresses! New summer dress! Yay!
  19. Thank you to this thread for reminding me that it is now 1:53pm here and I have yet to eat. WOW. I'm off to go have some Jamaican dumplings, mmmmmmm!
  20. Rusko - Hold On (feat. Amber Coffman) (Sub Focus Remix) I just discovered Rusko, and am now constructing an opinion...
  21. Every time I get into my "single and loving it" place, something ridiculous (which I always manage to laugh at later) happens. A few days ago, I get a midnight wake-up call (drunk dial) from one of my good guy friends. We had hung out a few days before, so it would make sense for me to be near the top of his drunk dial list, as we'd had so many jokes that day. So anyways, we're talking, he's smashed, and he professes his undying love for me. I blew it off as a silly drunken comment, but the next day I spoke to him again and get an "I'm sorry, that's not at all the way I had wanted to tell you that I like you." I mean, really? A drunken phone call? Any guy who doesn't have the balls to say something like that without getting drunk first loses a lot of brownie points. So anyways, aside from the fact that I'm pissed that he'd have that conversation while trashed, I'm also disappointed in the inevitable change that is going to happen in our friendship. Let's be honest, no matter how I responded to that, it was going to screw with the friendship. If I was like "sweet, let's make it work!" then we would have dated for a while, eventually broken up (I'm only 18... I'm definitely not about to tie myself down to somebody forever), and then the friendship would be either dead or awkward, or just different entirely. And now that I let him down, as this wouldn't work for a number of reasons (we live an hour away from each other, I enjoy our friendship way too much, and I'm just not feeling the same way), that is also bound to change our current relationship. He's already taken to not taking the hint. He calls me almost daily now, like a boyfriend would, and he wants to see me all the time and what not. So now any attempt that I make at a normal friendship is going to be strained. Oh well. I'm done venting now. Life goes on, haha.
  22. Me and my new tattoo! Here's me in lots of pain getting tattooed. Funnn lol. The finished product! I love my ribs/hip
  23. My flowers are colorful now! My artist was awesome and I couldn't be happier. I have to go get the color done again in a few months because it'll fade because of my skin color. But it'll really pop after the second round and it'll be so worth it. I'm very pleased I blacked out the distracting background lol. I love, love, love it!!
  24. I don't know why everyone is so afraid of change these days. They can always go back to the original look anytime, but times are a-changing, and everything is getting plastered with propaganda. There's no escaping it. At least it's simplistic and sleek, and doesn't look completely out of place. It could have been a lot worse. That being said, I like it. I ride a train every day with some really ugly, random-looking ads on it, and this is a lot nicer looking.
