Day 9: Six Flags St. Louis WELCOME TO THE LAND OF MIRRORED CLONES! We finally made it back to our home state and before watching our Redbirds beat the Royals in 14 innings, we decided to stop by SFStL. We did not do Hurricane Harbor this time as we were pressed for time, but we did the normal "rounds" of the park. Branson is next! the BEST Scooby dark ride ...because Superman fits so well into the Illinois themed section. When you say "next month" do you mean BEFORE or AFTER August 16th? The reason I ask, is because if you visit ANYTIME BEFORE August 16th, even during the middle of the week, you will run into the "tourist crowd" and the closer you get to the end of Kids Fest the more crowded it gets. Once the magical day of August 16th passes we will be between festivals and THAT'S the time to go. We do not start our next festival (which is a mini-festival) until the 30th and you will start to see it pick back up a little, but it is mostly locals and not the hordes of tourists like you will find now Long story short, we have been PACKED EVERY DAY this month and Kids Fest has just been crazy busy. We had cars parked all the way out to Lot K and L on Saturday (most of the time we try to not use the unpaved lots). If you can hold off until after August 16th, I think you will have a more enjoyable visit, that is unless you are going for the shows. We will only have a handful of the "regular" shows going on then. Off the top of my head I know the Saloon Show, Cajun Connection, Sons of the Silver Dollar, the McHaffie Homestead Pickers, and we might have something on the Gazebo Stage, but the big venues will be vacant as we set up for the Cowboy Festival.... just remembered, we have a "mini festival" starting on the 30th of August, before our Fall Festival -- my bad. Always forget about Southern Gospel Picnic. However I digress.... Before August 16th = BUSY --- After August 16th = GREAT TIME TO COME!

While there is no trees in the middle of the walkway, almost every queue for the slides is either shaded by the ride itself or shaded because it is in the tree line, so I guess I do not understand the point you are trying to make about Splashin' Safari not having shade. It's not like you won't be in the water anyway on the lazy rivers and wave pools -- which are the only things to not have shade present. I think they did a good job leaving trees in the park. They didn't have to leave a tree buffer barrier there in the middle of the park behind Zoombabwe Oasis

SDC is not running any promotions at this time as this is the heavy "tourist season" part of the year and honestly, they have no problem getting people to visit. On Saturday they were using Lot L which is unpaved and all the way back by the motel on Indian Point Road. This is the one time of the year where I don't visit. In all honesty, you won't see the locals (the ones that actually spend money in the shops) return until Kids Fest is over. Too many tourists who are just in the way. As for WoF. You can get cheap tickets from Price Chopper grocery stores or you can take advantage of their "pay once, visit twice" promotion they have going on right now by visiting their website.

1st coaster was Fire in the Hole... for those of you that don't consider that a coaster (you would if you rode it with the lights on and saw how big those drops are) my "first coaster" was Zambezi Zinger

Day 8: Holiday World Splashin' Safari time! This is always one of my favorite places to visit each summer. Ever since we discovered this park (when Legend was new) we have been coming at least once a year. The waterpark continues to get better and better. I remember when the "big" slide was ZOOMBabwe and the lines for that thing were crazy long. Now with so many options, the lines are getting spread a little more evenly and are not nearly as long. Below is a sample (a large one) from the gallery We had a great time, but it is time to get back to the Show-Me State Two fun slides -- just becareful not to flip your raft at the bottom More old skool -- the Congo River (the OTHER lazy river) Old skool! The bowl is like "I'm going to eat you" I don't know, I just liked this shot It's rather large I love Bakuli! Still don't understand why they didn't opt for the lazy river style that has waves Bahari River is the newest of the two lazy rivers As Martha Stewart would say Bahari "It's a Good Thing" BAHARI -- or what a wave pool SHOULD be The kids love Jungle Jets. I'll admit it -- my favorite slide in the park Still my favorite Tornado slide Zinga -- remember the lines for this when it first opened? Massive slide of ZOOMBabwe Still a lot of fun -- just less time wait now OtoRonGo -- My favorite of the 3 is GO. You get a lot of airtime on it. Here it comes! Always a lot of fun if you have smaller ones with you The ORIGINAL "BIG" Slide Wahtubee Crocodile Isle was redone this year Gateway to Heaven, inside Heaven?

Oh that sucks that you didn't get to go inside of Disneyland. I think I would have rather done that then go to Knott's -- but I wouldn't have to choose though as Knott's is free with my Maxx Pass (don't hate).

Honestly, the warmest day of the trip was a travel day -- man I would have hated to be at Coaster Con that day at PKI. The therm on my car said it was 98* outside and I know with the heat index it had to be almost 110 or so. Yes we were really lucky with the weather, but honestly we have only had one trip that had a rain day and that was when we went to Kings Dominion last year. It eventually cleared up and we got some rides in, but it did not matter too much as it does not take too long to get through the park --- never really thought about how lucky we are when we go on our trips, kind of cool really.

Day 8: Holiday World We left around 10:30am from our hotel in Louisville, KY and made great time. We actually arrived at Holiday World before we left Louisville (I luvs me they time warps) thanks to the time zone change. Had a wonderful time at the park. Even though we did Splashin' Safari first, I will post those photos later because I still need to do some editing and resizing before putting them up here... so you'll have to wait for those and suffer by klooking at photos from the ride side of the park first. I know it will be tough. Park #8 Holiday World Photos Here is the entire Holiday World Gallery Enough Voyage -- one more picture of RAVEN -- the best woodie in the park! I love the first 3 hills and the triple down tunnel, but the rest of the ride I could really do without... sorry I know that is probably a sin and I should turn in my ACE card now I really want to like this ride, but I can't. The helix section way out there hurts me every time I ride it. I thought it was running a little better in some spots this year. Ok, fine here's Voyage It turned out better than I thought it would and honestly, who doesn't want to ride in a turkey? Best themed tilt-a-whirl EVER! I like the ride, but it is hard to shoot the targets. I don't know if it is the gun or what, but we both never really did well on this ride. OK, I've stalled long enough Oh yeah, I rode it again this time. Fun little ride. Best themed swings ever! See everyone agrees it is the best woodie in the park again Much improved over last season. Raven on the other hand is back up to my #3 woodie It did not seem to be running as well as it had been a few years ago. Used to be in my top 5... now it is lucky to be in my top 10 Dizzy... I'm so dizzy, my head is spinning Fun ride, but hard to snap. All I got was a few pops Gets you just 'a little' wet Powerful Double Shot Anyone up for a little RCT? The Britishes IS coming They need to add a ride or something to Christmas Finally finished. Went two times last year and no hands either time Gateway to heaven?

Yes for one season, but also they did not MAKE any money off that season either. Think about it, you add three large coasters to the tune of almost $100 Million, you are not going to get that back in one, let alone three seasons. ...and guess what, Cedar Point MADE money that year. Hell it had 9 coasters and about every flat ride in the book, what did you want? Honestly, if you cannot keep your audience occupied with that, then there is nothing you can add that will. I thought that was a problem with the township, that was made very apparent at the Q&A this year, where you not there this year? That mediocre waterpark is probably the best in the northern Ohio area. Also since it is as YOUR park, I wouldn't dog it too much. It is definitely a step up from Hurricane Hannah's which was a huge dump -- still is. Ahh, but here is where you are confused. Adding something to the waterpark is still adding something to the park. Especially when they parks are 2 for 1. Again I throw out the point that you had NINE coasters. Almost every single type of coaster that most major player have and you still could not keep people at the park. You have more flats then most parks do and you still could not keep people there. WHAT POSSIBLY COULD THEY HAVE ADDED THAT WOULD HAVE MADE A BLOODY DIFFERENCE? Apples to Oranges, completely different market and situation We understand the whole loyalty to your homepark, but then again perhaps you should take a breather and reread what we are talking about. We want GL to be successful, however we are not dilusional in thinking that it will survive in its current state. Being a major waterpark is what will save this place. That was done before Cedar Fair bought the park. Six Flags ruined it by buying SWOhio. They tried to make a small regional park something it was not and in doing so gutted the park of any charm it had left. See here is someone with a clear head thinking. YES, this is what will make GL successful. Make it the Schlitterbahn of the north -- or even take a page from the new one being built in KC and make it a destination park with condos and such -- on the ride side. There is the major reason why GL is doing so poorly -- they have the rides, just they are crap. Also that drop in attendance was happening before CF bought the park from SFI. Actually that was one of the reasons SFI was so eager to get rid of GL -- the attendance was crashing downward very quickly.
