For everyone's information, they only changed it for the Halloween Fest - basically the rest of the season, and will change back come next may. -
Tobu Zoo's New Coaster
Tanks4me05 replied to Airtime&Gravity's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, the first time I heard ot Tobu Zoo getting the Mini Hyper I saw it was going to open in 2008 anyway, so I'm not complaining, and that was a few months ago. -
Well, I have three parks that I consider my home parks: Sylvan Beach: Personal Favorite Coaster - Galaxi - It's the only coaster there. But I made a pretty darn insane wooden coaster that I managed to squeeze on to a plot roughly the size of the parking lot behind Galaxi. Seabreeze: Personal favorite: Whirlwind - It's not extreme, but it's fast paced, fun, and with a line of usually 10 minutes or less, you can ride that and everything else many times in a day. GP favorite: Mainly Whirlwind, some say Jack Rabbit. I side more with the Whirlwind people, as Jack Rabbit just sadly does not have much airtime, but I can say that it is fun. Darien Lake: Personal favorite: Ride of Steel - This is basically like a little SFNE S:ROS - it is a great ride. Close second: Boomerang/Viper (tied) Why? Viper is amazingly smooth despite its old age, and is pretty forceful , and I find this Boomerang quite smooth, really, and the fact that these things pull 5.2 freaking G's, which the only coasters that I know of topped that was Thriller/Zonga pre drop neuter, (6.5 G's) and Tower of Terror in Gold Reef City (6.3 G's)

Santa’s Village Photo TR
Tanks4me05 replied to mrceagle's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nice Photo TR, and I do agree that the atmosphere for a family park over there makes it look pretty cool, but I must say that I am not sure why you praise a park so much like this when it doesn't have anything major. I see that it caters to families very well, but for us thrill seekers it looks like nothing. (Ok, I have never been there, but still.) IMO, LC would be worth mentioning for awesomeness, don't you think? -Tanks "the kid you met at the LC ACE event" 4me05. -

Cedar Point Advice
Tanks4me05 replied to sfmmrules!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The end of June is when I go to major parks (heck that's when I'm going next year.) and although I can't tell you about the weather because I only went once, in 2004 (the weather was good) the lines are not that bad, as mostly everything is under an hour wait, with the exception for Mantis, MF, TTD, and occasionally Raptor. Hotel Breakers is good because you are in the park, and can pretty much just get to riding without any driving. As for what to ride first, I suggest go to whichever ride is newer for the "ERT" (Hotel guests can ride two coasters an hour before the park opens, and it should be Maverick and MF, so I should go over to Maverick because it is new.) Other than that, and possib;y trying to ride TTD at night (ride Mantis at night, also, the line is only about 15 minutes instead of an hour) I say that you can do pretty much anything as the lines are short enough so that you can do everything in the two days that you will be there. -
PTR: Chuck does a Ghetto Fair
Tanks4me05 replied to hifalling's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ghetto Fair? To be honest, that fair has some of the best looking rides I have ever seen in an American Fair Company. Their Orbiter is especially notable. There is only one comment I have: The Sousaphone I saw in one of the Marching Band pics is made of Fiberglass... come on! Personally, I prefer 30 - 45 pounds of brass on my shoulders with better sound quality instead of 5 pounds of crap on my shoulders. Besides, you get used to the weight in about a week. -Tanks "I have a Marching Band Competition Tonight" 4me05. -
Shana Tova! (Yep, I'm a Jew, also.) Speaking of Rosh Hashanah, my Aunt's Matzoh Ball Soup is really good, I just had some leftovers this afternoon. (I guess we might as well rename this thread to "Judaism General Discussion".)

^Hey, I just found out that I was looking at the map on Google Earth sideways. It's not my fault that the people who designed Google Earth who didn't give us full control on how to "spin" the globe. Oh well. Plane flights will be a lot cheaper. I also just realized that Saint Petersburg is really close to Finland's border, so maybe a Russia/Scandinavia trip may be in order eventually? If they did all of the parks in Russia, Norway, Sweden, and Finland, it would equal to about 22 parks, a surprisingly large amount for that corner of the world. Here are some highlight coasters in Russia: Great Russian Mountain - Wonder Island: Relocated from Kure Portopialand, it is basically "The Other BMR-X/Knightmare", it closed in 1997, and opened in Russia in 2004. What is interesting is that Kure Portopialand resided in Hiroshima, Japan. That's right, Great Russian Mountain was relocated from Nuke Land I. (Although I'm pretty sure that it opened long after the radiation levels went down to a safe level.) Afterburner - Wonder Island: It's a Screaming Squirrel, and it replaced an indoor Maurer Soehne Spinner - Star Wars. And it goes upside down only twice, compared to Sequoia Adventure's 3 times. To top it all off, there are no pictures on rcdb for this coaster. Not impressed? Well, read this quote from rcdb regarding Afterburner: "Unlike previous Screaming Squirrel roller coasters by S&S Power, the Afterburner will be the first to make lateral turns." So, now you know why the Screaming Squirrel in RCT3 was able to do "real" elements. Also, read this quote from rcdb: "Height: 150' 11"" So, there you have it. A custom Screaming Squirrel marginally taller than Montu. Chernomor - Admiral Vrungel: (Yes Admiral Vrungel is the name of the park) There are no pictures, but based on the stats, it sounds like a really tall PAX wild train. Cobra - Admiral Vrungel: a PAX Cobra-1. What the heck is that thing, you ask? Well, do you remember that really screwed up Serpent themed shuttle coaster in rcdb that had a solid box like track, and and had a serpent's head and tail at the ends of the track? Well, guess what... that coaster is real, and it's 150' 11" tall. Frozen - Sokolniki Park: A clone of Gillian's Wonderland Pier former city Jet - a City Jet 400. Now, realize that Gorky Park may have 5 coasters, but two of their larger ones, a Schwarzkopf Alpen Biitz II and a PAX Magic Steed (a continuous circuit, 39' 4" tall Looping coaster) are SBNO and unlikely to re open. So all that's left there is a Fiesta Express, a Zamperla Spinning Mouse and a weird thing from SDC called a Reverse Coaster. HOWEVER, there is a problem in getting to all the parks - this is in no way like Japan, for the parks are very few and very far between. The total travel as the crow flies, including occasionally crossing bodies of water, is (roughly) almost 2,900 miles. Yeah. If this trip would ever happen, it probably would be one of the most expensive trips on record - not for the parks, but the transportation fees.
-
Well, there are about a dozen parks worth of interest according to rcdb, (IMO) and despite Russia's size, 10 of them are in either Saint Petersburg or Moscow. (Eastern Russia.) The other two however, are near the Western border of Russia, and although with the looks of it from Google Earth, Moscow and Saint Petersburg are a plane flight apart, so that means more tickets. If you want to get to those two parks on the other side of Russia, you will need (obviously) another plane ticket. Does anyone remember the Sea Serpent themed Shuttle Coaster that came with RCT3: Soaked? Well, that coaster happens to be real, and it's at one of the Western parks. And no, Disney Dood, there is no Disneyland Moscow.

If there is ever a moment to say "holy $#!%" I think this fits the criteria, in my opinion. EDIT: 200th post!

Floorless Coasters: Just a gimmick?
Tanks4me05 replied to RIP Psyclone's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Floorlesses and Stand Ups are although technically gimmicks, so is S:ROS from SFNE because it is big and fast, but those aren't bad gimmicks. Floorless coasters and Stand Up Coasters really do have different experiences to the ride than normal sit downs. Floorless coasters have that sensation of basically having flying super powers because you are restrained so minimally (I know it's not a flying coaster, but still that's how I describe it.) Stand Ups are also unique as agreed with Mantis' first drop, it had HUGE amounts of airtime, and I liked being thrown around at the end. -
Wipeout at Pleasurewood Hills
Tanks4me05 replied to martynlfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ok, I don't know why enthusiasts hate Boomerangs so much. The ones that I have been 5 Boomerangs (Sidewinder @ HP, Boomerang @ TGE, Boomerang @ DL, Zoomerang @ LC, and Flashback @ SFNE) and all of them, back seat are relatively smooth. Plus, you MUST realize that Boomerangs pull 5.2 G's! Tell me, where else can you find a coaster so easy to access because they are cloned so much, and have G's enough to rival Schwarzkopf's most intense designs? I think the Boomerang is a great roller coaster, and probably one of the most ingenious ones out there. Something that has a tiny footprint, is relatively cheap, and pulls insane G's that if were on a B&M, would be praised. -
Best And Worst Things Ever
Tanks4me05 replied to Manny In England's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Best: Finding out at Sylvan Beach's Shooting Gallery that you can set off all the targets at the same time by taking a picture of the interior with the flash of your camera is turned on. (Timed right, you could potentially scare a lot of people if they are close enough) Worst: Only Gwazi Tiger ran during my trip to BGA. I know that is usual, but the ANNOYING part about that is when I went to Adventure Island the day after, both sides were running. To top it all off, the day after that, as I left the hotel, both sides were STILL running. -

I know some people try to color code their K'nex sets, but I don't want to spend all that money on pieces that I already have, but are a different color. I care for functionality. -
Ahhh, true. It would probably be a solid block of steel, and still, what the motor will have the strain taken off in the actual distance it would have to power the arm, its made up for it in the sheer weight of the arm with that counterweight on top.

The Official "TPR Japan Trip 2007" Thread

Weird. Venus is now Green and Blue, Titan is Yellow and Black. That is something that will take time to get used to. -
Hang'O'ver!
Tanks4me05 replied to pepsie's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
An Inverted Cutback - that's what I call that inversion you created (the first one) because, well, it looks like a Cutback that is upside down, like the middle part of a Cobra Roll. Your inverted Cobra Roll thing, however, (the second inversion in your ride) could be safe and actually VERY fun if modified so that the Corkscrew part would level out at something like 135 degrees instead of 180 degrees, because I found that the Red G spike only happens at the very bottom and the pull up/out. Something like this would be awesome: http://s167.photobucket.com/albums/u155/Tanks4me/?action=view¤t=InvertedCobraRollTesting-0709071749.jpg The G's for the front seat (B&M Floorless, 8 cars) are -1.3 and +4.2, the middle has -1.4 and +4.3, and the back has -1.6 and +4.9 so yes it is safe. It's basically the same reason why Eurofighters (and other coasters) can preform past vertical drops, which is what this drop is like, but much steeper, and it turns to the left. -
Hang'O'ver!
Tanks4me05 replied to pepsie's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
No, no colisions on the whole ride. And no, it's max G's is 3,92 and -1,29 and did you see the POV? It's perfectly safe. Yeah, in RCT3, the G meters are not that realistic in RCT3. I made an Inverted Cutback in NL using the 3 Bench wooden coaster (closest in car configuration to the Extended Coaster) that dropped down 30 feet, raised 20, and had a width of about 65 feet, and the G's probably won't kill the riders, but they sure as heck would be painful, they reached -3.3 G's in the front seat, -3.2 G's in the back seat of the first car, -3.5 G's in the front seat of the second car, and -3.2G's in the back seat of the second car. The G's do vary by about +/-0.1 G's occasionally but I think that is realistic because that would probably accommodate for the different weights of the people riding the coaster. (The only real boost I used was the 6 mph kicker wheels I left in the station, which would be barely considered a boost.) -
The All In One looks like an interesting concept, however the Thor's Hammer (the Swing Arm lift thing) is what I think is a really unique ride, and if they solved the arm clearance issues, that would be a really good ride. Although I'm not sure how you would be able to get something that big and heavy to such high speeds without a really big motor.
