Sylvan Beach to get 14 new rides!
Tanks4me05 replied to Tanks4me05's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Sandy Lake is one of them, Sylvan Beach has the second, Knoebels has the third, Conneaut Lake Park has the fourth, and Coney Island has the fifth, but that is going to leave along with everything else in Coney Island except for Cyclone, Wonder Wheel, and maybe the Observation Tower. So, there are technically five remaining, but the number will be four when the 2008 season begins. Another reason to say that Sylvan Beach is the hidden gem of Central New York. -
Sylvan Beach to get 14 new rides!
Tanks4me05 replied to Tanks4me05's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^ After finally remembering what the product name of this ride is - it's a Chance Sky Wheel, and I'm surprised at how old these things are. I had a feeling they were around since the 1950's, but I had no idea that they were around since 1939 (its info on flatrides.com says that) As you see, it has 2 Mini Ferris Wheels attatched to an arm, each Mini Wheel has 8 chairs, each chair holds two people, and since there are two arms, the ride holds 32 people at a time. The capacity is average, but for those of you who have been there, you should know capacity is not an issue at Sylvan Beach. If you go on a Wednesday in July (when I usually go) you will see what I mean. As for the Sky Wheel, I'm pretty sure it is one of these, as one would fit the park perfectly, and I can't imagine Intamin building a multi million dollar Coaster Wheel here, because I think those are way out of Sylvan Beach's price range. The last thing they got was a hand me down Galaxi in 1993. But don't get me wrong, the park is great, and all they need is maybe a Round Up, and definitely a Loop - O - Plane from a fair or something, and some other old rides, a refurbishment of their Tip Top, and the place would be perfect. I never found the park to be bad at all. There are a couple of support beams on Galaxi that need re painting, and only a couple, and the Tip Top I do agree is not in the best of shape, but it runs fine, and everything else in the park is amazing. ^It didn't say, it just said Double Ferris Wheel, however I assume that it isn't those Intamin Coaster Wheels, I'm thinking the traditional Double Ferris Wheel that you very rarely see nowadays (only at fairs, and still very few of them) that existed in decades past. They probably don't have the land for an Intamin Coaster Wheel, anyway, and the traditional Double Ferris Wheel would fit the 1950's theme of the park much better. -
Sylvan Beach Amusement Park, the very little known amusment park in Central NY that I praise so much for its 1950's feel, is finally expanding! It may take a while, because this plan is to take 5 - 10 years, but at least they are getting something! Luckily, the owner of the park is still trying to keep the park with an atmosphere from the 1940's (although I think it's more 1950's because it has a steel coaster and Fluorescent Lighting all over the place) Some of the new rides that will come within the next 5 - 10 years are: -Paddleboat Rentals -Mini Golf -Parasailing -A speed boat that goes 60 mph and carries 150 people -An insanely rare DOUBLE FERRIS WHEEL - More Motel Rooms The article was found in the Post Standard (I would give a link to the article online, but the Post Standard's seach system is really bad) I always thought the park was a haven of old and rare rides, from companies like: -Traver Engineering -Eli Bridge -Sellner (the original Tilt - A - Whirl is still made, but it is old) -Eyerly Aircraft Company -PTC (yes, they made flat rides along with Traver) -W.F. Mangels -Allan Herschell Company (Ironically, this ride is called Tanks) -Pretzel Amusement Ride Company (Once Coney Island closes, Sylvan Beach's laffland will be one of only four remaining Pretzel Dark Rides in the world, and they once numbered to about 1,000) -Hrubetz (The only other Tip Top I know of is in Stricker's Grove) So, the fact they haven't gotten anything since 1993 (the SDC Galaxi) and the fact that they are keeping the park's atmosphere alive (the Parasailing, Speed Boat, and Paddleboat stuff is on the beach, which is only a couple hundred feet away, but is somewhat hidden by trees) is why I am going completely crazy.

Liseberg opening day.

Awesome photos! If only I could go to Europe. Is it just me, or does Liseberg like to stuff rides inside Lisebergbanan's Helices? -

I did ride, and it didn't take me two hours to get on, more like five minutes, unless you count the 5 hours I was there as a wait. It was awesome, to say the least. This was one of only two rides that I was scared of going on in the last three years (the other one was Big Thunder at Rapids from last year) and it was unbelievable. If only DP kept theirs, its much better than Screamin' Swing, in my opinion. At least they are getting Steel Venom. I'll post the Cypress Gardens pictures this weekend. -

Looks a lot like Hercules. Good or bad? You decide. I'm voting for good. I'm one of those few remaining Hercules fanboys. But still, that does look like a sweet ride! I will see what I can do about adding this into my CP trip in 2008. All I can say is that I'm really liking that double down. -

^ I said I have pictures and a video for each park, including Rapids and Adventure Island. But I only have about 13 pictures for Rapids (I'll email you the pics from last year if you want, I have about 60, the slide complex that's opening this summer only has a lot of dirt and some support structures built, so last year's pics aren't much different) Anyways, on to the pics of Rapids! PS: DBH was running really good, but not insane. It was really fun, but it still had quite a ways to go to beat Lightning Racer, let alone TGE's Comet (the other wooden coasters that are higher on my top 10 wooden coaster list) I just had to think of a way to get to 60+ captions. Welcome to Rapids! Home of the best Proslide Tornado I know of: Big Thunder! Here is another view of Big Thunder, that big Blue and Yellow Behemoth. Those are the pieces for their new slide complex. What slides they are getting, I have no idea, but it looks like they ae getting about six new slides. For such a little known park, it's actually pretty nice, and the slides are really fun. Here are some more slide pieces, and a random Trolley. Still some more slide pieces. NIIICOLAAAH! Airtime... on a water slide... you don't see that every day. This thing really is huge! Here is the reason why Big Thunder is the best Proslide Tornado: It has about a hundred feet of tubing or so after the Funnel. Yellow Slide= Pirate's Plunge (I can't remember which, but it's the one with the helix of death) Blue slide= Baby Blue, with the Toilet Bowl of death Green Slide=don't care. Here is the final drop of Pirate's Plunge, which is probably about 40 feet, (the slide itself totals at probably around 90 feet or higher, it is HUGE!) Some random trees. Next up: Cypress Gardens! -
Well, about a week ago I came back from Florida, and I went to Boomers, Rapids Waterpark, Cypress Gardens, Busch Gardens Africa, and Adventure Island. I have pictures from each park, and I will have videos from each park that are already finished, but will be uploaded within a week. Anyway, on to the pics! Park 1: Boomers Credit #62 and counting. Let's hope this and Blender don't close down on me like they did last year. That was a disaster. Closed. It is not broken, but the ride op that runs it isn't here. Another ride op in the Family Ride Area was certified to run it, but he didn't know how to. Dania Beach Hurricane... OVER THE BUILDING!!! Dania Beach Hurricane+Front Seat=my #3 wooden coaster. The sign of Floridian awesomeness. At least this is running. I think this ride is highly photogenic, and has some pretty good airtime. Here, the ride section may look pretty nice, which it is, however, the Go Kart section across the street was kind of run down. Grrrrrr, I'm a 100 foot tall Wooden Coaster that makes people go WEEEEEEEEE with airtime! Gimme some candy! See what I mean by run down? The Go Kart track was huge, and awesome, though. Another shot of the big Go Kart track. I think the Go Karts are on a bigger land plot than the coaster. Awesome picture. EXTREME CLOSE UP!!!!!!1!!!!!11!!!three!!!!! Dania Beach Hurricane... THROUGH THE TREES!!! Awesome semi sihlouette shot. The worst part of the ride, the brake run. Why? Because it's the end of the ride. Dania Beach Hurricane... THROUGH THE SUPPORTS! Dania Beach Hurricane... THROUGH THE STATION! Awesome fountain shot. Still closed. Random Swing Ride. Here are the rest of the flat rides in the park. Yeah, not a lot, but they have Dania Beach Hurricane. Ride op hasn't arrived yet. Well, this trip wasn't a total disaster, DBH was open. Random Bumper Boats that I never knew were there before. Airtime! It's all big and stuff. This is just plain big. Dania Beach Hurricane... THROUGH MORE TREES! NOOOOOO!!!!! THE TREES ARE EATING DBH!!!!! Closed Blender... THROUGH THE TREES! Here's another DBH shot for all of you. Here's another shot. FINALLY, it's open! Random Mini Golf picture. The following on ride photos were taken with permission from the Ride Operations manager of Boomers, who happened to be operating DBH that day, and said I could bring my Cameras on ride when he saw me using them. Here we go! Going up the lift, we see the awesomeness that awaits! Awesomeness... THROUGH THE TREES! (I'm abusing that caption, aren't I?) "Alllmost there... alllmost there..." This picture is so awesome, I don't even have to bother with captions. But for some reason, I feel the need to keep posting a caption, no matter how pointless or random. Pudding. (See what I mean about random?) This is probably my favorite picture I took of DBH. Dude, this ride pwns! Zoom Zoom! DBH... THROUGH THE SUPPORTS! First drop awesomeness. I love sihlouette shots! Semi Sihlouette shots are awesome, too. Through the supports... again. Best... Billboard... ever! Sigh... time to leave. Bye, DBH! I'll miss you! Your awesome airitmeness gave me happiness! *Runs out of caption ideas* MONKEYS! Ummm... This ride pwns. Up next, Rapids Waterpark!

Zambezi Zinger is still operational, just not in the US. It is now known as Broca, and it resides in a park called Parque Nacional Del Café in Quindio, Columbia. (I'm under the assumption that you think it was demolished, not relocated, and I think it's recent repaint was posted here a couple of months ago) http://rcdb.com/ig1392.htm Well, for me, the coaster I miss the most would be Hercules. *Prepares to be bashed* I never really found it rough, despite the fact that the only times I rode it (3 times) were in June 2003. Hercules, you will not live in vain, you will not be forgotten! There are still some crazy fanatics that believe in you! I would also say Quantum Loop, but that one was relocated to Salitre Magico in Bogota, Columbia, the same park where Myrtle Beach Pavillion's Corkscrew still resides.

I thank you highly. PTR's won't be as much as a chore anymore! I have another question: Can Imageshack upload more than one photo at once?

I have nearing 200 photos from my trip to FL about a week ago, and I'm getting tired of shrinking each one, one at a time. Is it possible to shrink multiple photos at once?

Dollywood Trip Report!!!!!!
Tanks4me05 replied to Axman's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Calm down, it will almost undoubtedly take much more than a couple of posts like that to get banned. Trust me, I know from experience, and Robb should have lots of stories about that. Just keep the photo size under 800x600 pixels and under 100 kb in size (mine are usually in the 400 - 600 pixel range) - Tanks "formerly the infamous Tanks4me" 4me05 -
^ Oh, yeah. I forgot that Flashpass was Six Flags exclusive. The parking has been lowered to $7, daily admission is $29.99, and $22.99 for people under 48 inches tall. (These are online prices) Two new shows are coming this year: a spin off of Cirque Du Soleil, and a Magic Show. The Cirque Du Soleil spin off (Le Grande Cirque) is opening on June 22, and I'm not sure when the Magic Show is opening.

Darien Lake does not have Q - Bot, but it has Flashpass. (I'm not sure if they are the same, but if they are the same, then yes Darien Lake does have Q - Bot) There is no Single Rider Line, but the rides usually do not have a long wait, except for Mind Eraser, which often reaches a 40 minute wait, where Ride of Steel (formerly S:ROS) is usually 20 minutes, Viper is usually a walk on, Predator is usually about 10 minutes, and Boomerang is usually about 10 minutes. I reccommend riding in the back for Ride of Steel. The airtime is insane! (I know, I was surprised it is such a good coaster, seeing as it is rarely talked about) I don't mind the straight sections, the airtime on the hills are definitely ejector, and lots of it. Viper is actually pretty smooth, and the head banging is really not that bad at all. Neither is Boomerang, if you ride in the front, and is not that bad in the back anyway. Mind Eraser, is much rougher, but still re ride-able. It is actually a pretty fun place at Darien Lake. Maybe I'm just a fanboy because it is my home park, and though I do see the improvements that are needed, it is still fun.

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
Tanks4me05 replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Montu, yesterday at about 7 PM. That ride is easily the best at BGA. -
Knoebels was cancelled, and since the are opening a ride which has been extinct for decades, got me really ticked off. Second, Coney Island was also cancelled, which since I would have made my most emotionally powerful coaster video by far had I gone, only made the situation even worse. Third of all, at BGA today, I had to follow my family at a snail's pace, which although I did ride all of the coasters (BTW, Gwazi was actually smooth) I only did one lap around the park, which I could have easily done three or four. If only one of these had occurred, I would still be ticked off, but nowhere near as much. Since they pulled a three pronged attack, since each occurred within two weeks of each other, I am nearing my limits of self control, and those limits are very high. Robb, I thank you for creating this thread, an ingenious emergency ventilation system, since had this thread not been created, I have no idea how many more parks would be cancelled.

Gravity
Tanks4me05 replied to Tanks4me05's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
^ I know, but I don't have enough of the right pieces to support it well. I'm not too happy with it either, but I have to deal with it. At least it works. I will try the Support Structure style you used on Speed O' Fear, and a new smoothing technique I thought of for my next project, which will be a recreation of one of my No Limits Stand Up Coasters. But that won't be for a while because I like Gravity a lot, so I will plan to keep it up for several more months, despite the fact that I photographed the whole ride for use as an instruction booklet. -

^ Actually, it is stable. I know this topic is old, and I finished it four months ago, but I'm bored out of my mind, waiting for my flight to Florida in two days, so I'll post some pictures. Here is an overview of the layout. This is the main element - the Stalling Dive. Here is another overview of the layout. This is the final element, the Helix. Here the train is ready to launch. This is the Spaghetti Knot section, now completed. Here is another view of the Helix. This is a lot of head choppers. -
RCT4?
Tanks4me05 replied to coasterdude5's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
^^ You pretty much said what RCT4 should be. Freedom of where and what to build combined with the entire park experience. Although I also believe that it should also combine aspects of Thrillville, so that you can fully interact with the peeps in the park, and be able to play all those midway games. I also think that they should follow No Limit's color choices, where you can choose from thousands of different colors, instead of about 30 or 40. -
^ Uhhh, Steel Venom is leaving Geauga Lake, so I suggest going on Wicked Twister, which is a great ride anyway. For New York State, I recommend going to Darien Lake (I know it won't be the best this year, but hopefully in 2008 enough improvements will be made to make it look like a good park) as they have Superman, which has a lot of airtime if you sit in the back. Seabreeze in Rochester, NY is a fun, small family park with some nice medium sized coasters and a good water park. The lines at Seabreeze rarely get above 10 minutes for most rides (except for Bobsleds, which usually gets 20 - 30 minutes, but it is a unique ride, and is worth it in my opinion) The park's wooden coaster, Jack Rabbit, may have Morgan Trains, and it is the fifth oldest coaster in the world but the ride is actually very smooth. Sylvan Beach, in Sylvan Beach, NY is a really fun, 1950's style amusement park, which only has an SDC Galaxi, but it has many rare flat rides, and the classic feel is simply unparalleled, especially at night, when all the Neon Lights are on. (Go on a Wednesday, when you get a discount on the amount of tickets that each ride requires) The Great Escape, in Lake George, NY is also a really fun place. It is a family park, mainly, but their Boomerang is surprisingly smooth, and Comet is by far the best wooden coaster in the state. If you ride in the back, you will know why. -Tanks "NY Parks guru and Sylvan Beach fanatic" 4me05
