  1. ^ Just like with the Dubai park, Six Flags isn't building the park. Just like what was done with Tokyo Disneyland, they are licensing the brand to someone else who will build the actual park. MOD EDIT: and for that reason the title of this thread has been edited to remove the implication that Six Flags is building the park.
  2. Link At 250 acres, this will be pretty sizable park (probably one of if, not the largest in Africa), and it will be far bigger than the parks to be built in Dubai and Qatar.
  3. Very nice pictures of what looks to be a beautiful park. Even though none of the rides alone would make me want to go there, Efteling looks like an amazing park that would provide a better experience than a park with more thrilling rides. The theming and attention to detail is amazing, and the park has been adding/plan to add some great additions to the park (dueling coaster and the new resort) that will make it even better.
  4. Mine is a close up of one of the cars on Polyp at Kiddieland.
  5. Yes Do you watch The Soup?
  6. The Warrior's Code - Dropkick Murphys
  7. My problem with Dark Knight is how it was advertised as a thrill ride. A lot of people probably expected it to be, and were upset when they found out it wasn't. I'll even admit that I was disappointed when it opened. I was expecting something along the lines of the Scooby Doo coaster at Warner Bros. Movie World Australia. I don't think it is a bad ride, I just thought the theming would be better. Although, for being one of the first attempts Six Flags has made at theming in a while, it isn't that bad, and I'll take Dark Knight over a standard wild mouse any day. Edit, I realized that you have to register to have the votes counted, so I've removed the links. If a mod sees this and says it's still allowed, I'll re-post the links.
  8. The last coaster I rode was Viper last Saturday. The park was dead with every ride I came across, didn't see Superman, having a wait of no more than 10 minutes.
  9. The big surprise I saw was that Dollywood has taken the best shows award away from Fiesta Texas. Silver Dollar City receiving the friendliest staff award was also a surprise. Other than that, it was the typical winners that we see every year.
  10. ^If you were, we'd be back to the Premier parks days. Just because Dark Knight isn't a Raging Bull in a box doesn't mean it is a bad coaster. Most families seem to like it. Plus, would you rather have Dark Knight or a plain wild mouse? The giga idea mentioned a few times over the past few pages is also never going to happen. While thrill seekers might like it, families, those who Six Flags is trying to bring in, won't. The statement that all of Chicagoland wants one again seems to go back to the Premier parks mentality. Yes I want a new coaster, but it doesn't have to be something massive. Just look at Evel Knievel, it is fun and appeals to families. When I went in 2007, I only heard one person, a mom, say it was boring. End rant - Sorry it involved your post, but just my thoughts after reading the past few pages -------------------------------------------- I would like a screaming swing though. Also, if Six Flags did build a giga coaster, I wouldn't complain. I'd just wonder what happened to the never building a giant coaster again comment that Shapiro made a while back.
  11. What I would like the park to get: 1. Sally dark ride 2. Screaming Swing 3. Sky Swat 4. Deluge type water coaster 5. Eurofighter 6. Large speed slide 7. Half pipe slide 8. Any other major flat ride that isn't a spin-and-puke 9. GCI wooden coaster 10. Mack water coaster Right now is a great time to visit the park as it is dead, even on weekends. I went again last Saturday, and all the rides I came across (didn't see Superman) had a wait no longer than probably 10 minutes. Even rides like Viper and Bull had only a one or two train wait if that. Even with the light crowds, the ride ops were still acting like the park was packed with them quickly loading/unloading/dispatching the trains.

  13. Yes, Kingda Ka Do you like Coke more than Pepsi?
  14. So a few weeks ago, I went to Michigan's Adventure, and while not a great park, it exceeded my expectations. Then again, I wasn't expecting much so that wasn't hard to do. First off, this park is literally in the middle of nowhere, and the one road leading to it was backed up for miles. The park would be filled to near capacity due to the heat and humidity, and because the schools in the area were starting the following week. Luckily, most of the crowds were in the water park, so most of the rides had a short wait. The only rides that had any sizable wait were Wolverine Wildcat and Corkscrew. Wildcat had a full queue, which took about 30-45 minutes with one train operation. When I got to the park, Corkscrew had a full queue, but I rode later when the line only went to the stairs leading into the station. Still, the wait was probably in the 30-45 minute range. Corkscrew is probably one of the slowest loading coasters that I've encountered. The rides them selves were pretty good, but I only rode the major coasters since the water rides had really long lines, I wasn't feeling like being a credit whore, and most of the flats were kiddie rides. This park only has a handful of non kiddie flat rides, and no thrill rides. I know this park lacks in attendance, but it could really use a drop tower or some other thrill ride. It could also use some family rides too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shivering Timbers: This is my new #1 coaster, and yes, it is even better than El Toro IMO. The first time it wasn't that great, but my rides later in the day were amazing. The air time was incredible, and the ride hauled @$$ the entire time. While it was rough, it was not bad at all. Wolverine Wildcat: Having ridden Predator and heard about all the other Dinn coasters, I was expecting to die on this coaster. I was surprised though as it was very smooth, and there was even some airtime. While it is no top 10 coaster, it certainly doesn't place near the bottom. Corkscrew - A basic Arrow corkscrew. It was a little rough, but nothing too bad. Get the credit and move on. Mad Mouse - I like Wild Mice, so I liked this. The banked track was interesting, and there was some airtime. This was a very smooth coaster though, and it is my second favorite mouse after Dark Knight. (I've only ridden 4 mice though) Thunderhawk - With memories of a painful 2008 ride T2 still in memory, I was expecting to get beat up on this coaster. While there was no headbanging, the train shakes/vibrates a lot, but since I didn't hit my head, I'm not complaining. The ride was fun, and while not as intense as the Batman clones, I like the layout and thrill factor of SLCs more. If only they weren't so rough. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Service wise, the park was very clean, although with the amount of trash cans, it was to be expected. Operations, with the exception of Corkscrew were pretty good for the most part with the lines moving fairly quickly. One of my biggest complaints is on the food. There aren't many food options in the park, and unless you leave something in the car, you're stuck there. The only restaurants I saw were: Coasters, a pizza restaurant(seemed to only serve entire pizzas, snack stalls, and outdoor grills selling hot dogs and snacks. I think it cost be $10-$12 for a hot dog, bag of chips, and a drink. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pros for Mich. Adv: 1. Timbers 2. Price 3. Timbers 4. Operations (for most part) 5. Timbers 6. Cleanliness 5. Timbers Cons to Mich. Adv. 1. No shade 2. No thrill flat rides 3. limited food options 4. Food prices 5. Rednecks showing too much skin Bye Michigan's Adventure. It was a fun couple of hours, and hopefully I'll be back soon. Corkscrew Wildcat and Sea Dragon The log flume looked fun, but the queue was spilling into the midway Flying Trapeze Michigan's Adventure It's impossible to get a good photo of Mad Mouse The mini-golf course looked nice. Going up Wildcat's lift. At this point, all I could think of was, "Don't be like Predator" Falling Star Ferris Wheel Just like Kiddieland and Indiana Beach, Michigan's Adv has one of these dinghy slides. It was placed where it could be used by those in both the ride and water park. A Rapidsnerd approved ride that is not Dan friendly Kersplash Thunderhawk again Going up Going down Thunderhawk Thunderhawk Corkscrew Corkscrew Ok, fine, Wolverine Wildcat ended up being pretty good Wolverine Wildcat looks so innocent, but don't be deceived by its look. Few coasters are as rough as this one is. This is pretty much the only part of timbers you can take a photo of while inside the park, and the parking lot was too crowded to get one from there Yep, this is a Cedar Fair park I see concrete...lots of concrete Welcome to Michigan's Adventure
  15. 99 Luftballons - DDR
  16. This looks like a lot of fun, and judging by the price, I'd expect some pretty good theming which will make the ride even better. With a price tag of 11 million, I believe the theming will be about as good as Buccaneer Battle at Great America. This should be a good addition to the park, and it should be a big hit with families.
  17. When did you visit? When I rode it a few weeks ago, it was pretty smooth with some airtime on the big hills, and I couldn't believe it was a Dinn coaster. Sure it won't make any top 10 list, but it sure is a hell of a lot better than Predator. Then again, I thought T2 was smooth the first time, so maybe I'm just crazy
  18. I think it might be crowded, as it is a holiday weekend, and possibly the last operating weekend of the season for the park. That being said, even if it is crowded, waits shouldn't be too bad except for Wildcat and Corkscrew. What I said in another topic: 1. Get to the park early as it is located off of a two lane road that can get backed up. 2. Even if it is filled to capacity, you shouldn't need to spend much time there. Most of the queues are fairly small, and the only rides with slow moving queues are Wolverine Wildcat and Corkscrew. 3. Ride Shivering Timbers, then anything else you want to, then back to Timbers 4. There aren't many food options in the park, but unless you leave something in the car, you're stuck there. The only restaurants I saw were: Coasters, a pizza restaurant(seemed to only serve entire pizzas, snack stalls, and outdoor grills selling hot dogs and snacks. 5. The water park looked good, but it will probably be packed if it is hot out. When I went two weeks ago, the water park was packed, but except for the few hours during the lunch rush, the ride park was dead. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As for crowds, I doubt it'll be crowded. When I went, I heard someone say that schools started the following Monday, so it was the last weekend of freedom for the kids. It was also really really hot, so a lot of people went to the park to cool off. Even though the parking lot was filled to capacity, it was not uncomfortable unlike if you went to a major park that had a filled parking lot. So make sure you get a lot of rides on Timbers. If you don't like it much at first, ride it later in the day. When I first rode it around noon, it was fun with some airtime moments, but nothing too special. Later in the day, it hauled @$$, and there was a lot of airtime. It was a bit rough (similar to Avalanche/Hellcat in 06/07), but nothing terrible. Timbers even knocked off El Toro to be my #1 coaster if you need to know how much I like it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pros for Mich. Adv: 1. Timbers 2. Price 3. Timbers 4. Operations (for most part) 5. Timbers 6. Cleanliness 5. Timbers Cons to Mich. Adv. 1. No shade 2. No thrill flat rides 3. limited food options
  19. I haven't, but I came close when I rode Kingda Ka in 2007. On my first ride, it easily cleared the top hat. However, on my second ride 5 minutes later, there was no wait (if only I was at the park for more than the final two hours of the day), the train barely made it over the top hat. As the train was going up the tower, I remember thinking that it would indeed roll back, but sadly, there was just enough speed to get over the top.
  20. Yeah, I'm positive that we are not getting Chang, and I hope we get some more flats before we get a new coaster. I would much rather see a dark ride, screaming swing, sky swat, star flyer, or some other giant thrill ride added before a new coaster is. Plus, as much as I'd like one, we don't really need a coaster as we have a great collection already. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Areas for future expansion: - behind the games in County Fair - Where the Wilderness theater is, although, some of the picnic area would also have to be taken out -the area between: Whizzer, Raging Bull, and the Pictorium (could also be for HH) -Splash Water Falls site -While I'd hate to see it, they could also remove the log flumes. They take up a huge amount of space, but if Six Flags does mark that area for expansion, hopefully they pull an Indiana Beach and build over and around the flumes (if it's a coaster). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, time for some photos from my trip last weekend. The park was dead up until my last hour there, so I was able to get a lot of rides in, in the limited time I had. Nearly everything was a walk on or a one or two train wait. Those that didn't had a wait time of 15 minutes max with the exception of Superman which was 30 minutes. However, a lot of rides were having mechanical problems, but with the exception of V2, they reopened a little later. Again, note small crowds Ricochet V2 Iron Wolf Revolution, note small line Superman Batman again Whiligig and Batman American Eagle Demon was fun Raging Bull again Viper was fun, but not near its potential Raging Bull was great Saturday, and I got some nice airtime since I wasn't stapled into my seat.
  21. I'm sure it has been brought up before, but would it be possible to fix the stations of the coasters so you don't have the generic entrance and exit sticking out. If not, then maybe selecting a different entrance/exit might help. For example, on the chairlift, maybe the wooden or glass entrance and exit might help it look better. Other than that, the park looks amazing. The buildings look beautiful, the rides look great, and the landscaping is amazing.
  22. While it was inconsiderate, who outside of Cedar Point's market is going to know what Maverick is? I assume that most who watched show figured that Maverick was a coaster at Great America. I don't think the enthusiast meant to be an idiot, but was just being a dork/stupid without really thinking of what the comment meant.
  23. My new list 1. Shivering Timbers - Michigan's Adventure 2. El Toro - Six Flags Great Adventure 3. Nitro - Six Flags Great Adventure 4. Hellcat - Timber Falls 5. Cyclone - Lakeside 6. Viper - Six Flags Great America 7. Kingda Ka - Six Flags Great Adventure 8. Steel Hawg - Indiana Beach 9. Cornball Express/Raging Bull (tie) - Six Flags Great America/Indiana Beach 10. Evel Knievel - Six Flags St. Louis Wow, seven wooden coasters in my top 10/11.
  24. And where does this "FACT" come from. I always thought Great Adventure had the highest revenue. I have read several times that Great America is the most profitable though. However, I don't know if that is total profit dollars brought in, or profit to expenses ratio. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I really doubt Six Flags will open any new parks in the country. They are currently in a huge financial mess, and the market is already at capacity. Now, they could buy a park, but I doubt that that will happen, since that is one reason that they are in the mess that they're in now.
