Vekoma's new train designs

I don't think you are actually kneeling on this coaster. If you read the article it says riders are tilted into a kneeling position, so this probably just means the seats are tilted to something like a 45 degrees. -
Six Flags 2010
Airtime&Gravity replied to nhman93's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, you've got Goliath at SFFT, Chang, and the old SLC going to La Ronde, so this might very well be the beginning of another ride relocation program. I would hardly say that this is the start of a ride-relocation program. Goliath was sitting unused at a destroyed park. Chang was thought to be put to better use elsewhere The SLC at La Ronde is the odd one though, but I guess they figured Great Escape didn't need it, so they sent it to another park in the region. I think the lack of 2010 rides is, as said before, Six Flags just doesn't have the money right now. They are trying to emerge from bankruptcy, and adding major rides at the parks wouldn't help them. Plus, they are saving for what should be a great year in 2011. -

Sherlock Holmes - I like action films, so I really enjoyed this movie. While it isn't classic Sherlock Holmes, it still has the elements that one associates with the character. The movie did have a lot of action, but I don't think it was that unnecessary. The acting is god, the sets, especially the outdoor scenes, were great, and the movie was overall really good. It was probably the best movie I saw this year.

- Favorite new coaster El Toro - Favorite new ride I'm not really a big flat ride person, but I'll go with Revolution when I don't get sick - Favorite new park The only new for the decade park I've been to was the ride side of Timber Falls - Most memorable park moment - SFGADV with no lines - Most memorable coaster moment riding Hellcat close to 50 times in 2007 - Best ERT session well, the above was kind of like ERT...I need to go on a TPR trip - Least favorite coaster Ragin Cajun - Least favorite ride Revolution when I get sick - Least favorite park well, Timber Falls has to be this again - Most interesting ride you've seen introduced Euro-fighter, Zac spin, the large Huss rides, Vekoma Flying Dutchman, Disk-o coaster - Least interesting ride you've seen intoduced regular Disk-o - Your favorite TPR moment (favorite post, trip report, video, whatever!) too many videos and trip reports, meeting the Chicago Crew at SFGAM on closing day - The decade's biggest flop Wild West World - at least HRP is still open - The decade's biggest success DisneySea - The best meal you've had at a park - Tacos/Pronto pups at Indiana Beach - The worst meal you've had at a park $12 hot dog and chips at Michigan's Adventure-It tasted good though - Best park turnaround Mt. Olympus - Worst park turnaround SFGADV losing all its flats - What was the biggest trend of this past decade? Spinning coasters, wooden coasters, launched coasters -Best Company Turnaround? Vekoma -Worst Company Turnaround? B&M -Wost Company Loss? CCI -Best New Company? Gravity Group, and while not new, Gerstlauer and Maurer Söhne became major industry players

Wow, that ride looks a lot better than I thought. I was expecting a launched coaster, so the reverse vertical lift was a surprise, but that vertical lift still looks really scary. The ride also looks really intense, with some great airtime moments on the hills. Also, that coaster goes really close to the end of the spike, so it should be a god scare for those in the front row.

My list in no order: Corkscrew (Cedar Point) - while other rides, like Demon, have corkscrews over the midway, Cedar Point's Corkscrew does the best job. Top Thrill Dragster - from just watching the launch to the whole area with the bleachers, Top Thrill Dragster interacts well with the crowd. Roller Soaker - do I really need to say why? The coasters at Nick Universe V2 interacts fairly well as it is wedged into a tight area with ride queues/exits, and midways surrounding most of the ride with the log flumes on the other side. If you go to where the line for Yankee Clipper starts, you can get some great photos of rider's facial expressions as the rear spike goes right over the area.

The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread

Some kind of old, but announced at IAAPA, news is that two of the Happy Valley parks, will build S&S launched coasters. Screamscape Should be good additions to the parks, and hopefully S&S has fewer problems than they are having with Ringracer. -
Disneyland Paris in the snow Photo TR

Great trip report, and some amazing photos that were able to capture the atmosphere. While hardly anything compared to Chicago snow wise, the snow seems to really change the park as some parts seem even more fantasy-like. -

^I seem to remember Geauga Lake was doing well until it was sold to Cedar Fair, so that closure was more lie "forced poor performance." If you remove a major draw and don't add anything to the other major draw, of course a park will do poorly. Also, while World's of Fun and Michigan's Adventure don't draw crowds like the other major parks in the chain, aren't they still in good shape financial wise? Obviously if a park is losing money it doesn't make much sense to keep, but if it is, why would you sell it, even if it doesn't pull in the number of people as the major parks. For it's size, Michigan's Adventure pulls in a lot of people, and it seemed like a park many operators would love to have. I'm not saying parks won't be sold, but I don't think any are now. The news about World's of Fun and Valleyfair being sold made sense when Cedar Fair was its own company looking to reduce its debt, but that problem seems like it is solved now.

This is probably my favorite video that you've done, as the song fits so well. Plus torturing Dan with water is never a bad thing. -

New article on Cypress Gardens, and it could be interesting to see what happens. Link -
Wow, wasn't expecting this, and this could be great for the chain. While Cedar Fair parks aren't bad, they could still use a lot of work. If the new owners are able to do to Cedar fair what Shapiro has done to Six Flags, this will be a very good thing. I don't think this company is the kind to close under-performing parks, so I don't think we will see any closing soon.

With the building in place and what will be a small coaster length wise, I expect we will see some impressive theming on this ride. The Mack spinning coasters seem like pretty good rides, and hopefully the same is true for this one. Universal Studios looks Japan looks like a great park, and this should make a great addition to the park.

Saw this coming, so it really isn't much of a surprise. I held a little hope that the new owners would be able to turn the park around, but they were still unable to get people to come unless they practically gave tickets away for free. Hopefully the rides find some good homes when the park does close for good. I would like to see the park succeed, but there always seems to be a lack of money with this park. As soon as one problem is solved, the owners are faced with another one, and all the while, they are struggling to bring guests in. Hopefully this park does get on its feet, but I don't see it lasting much longer.
