What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
Airtime&Gravity replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The last coaster I rode was American Eagle last Saturday. Up until my last hour at the park, the entire park was dead, so I was able to get a lot of rides in the short time I had there. Sadly, there were a lot of mechanical problems that day. Photo taken by me -
^It has some airtime, and even though it is a Dinn coaster, they brought us Psyclone, Mean Streak, and Predator, it is actually really smooth. The only airtime is on the hills that lead into turnarounds, but it is still fun. 1. Get to the park early as it is located off of a two lane road that can get backed up. 2. Even if it is filled to capacity, you shouldn't need to spend much time there. Most of the queues are fairly small, and the only rides with slow moving queues are Wolverine Wildcat and Corkscrew. 3. Ride Shivering Timbers, then anything else you want to, then back to Timbers 4. There aren't many food options in the park, but unless you leave something in the car, you're stuck there. The only restaurants I saw were: Coasters, a pizza restaurant(seemed to only serve entire pizzas, snack stalls, and outdoor grills selling hot dogs and snacks. 5. The water park looked good, but it will probably be packed if it is hot out. When I went two weeks ago, the water park was packed, but except for the few hours during the lunch rush, the ride park was dead. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As for crowds, I doubt it'll be crowded. When I went, I heard someone say that schools started the following Monday, so it was the last weekend of freedom for the kids. It was also really really hot, so a lot of people went to the park to cool off. Even though the parking lot was filled to capacity, it was not uncomfortable unlike if you went to a major park that had a filled parking lot. So make sure you get a lot of rides on Timbers. If you don't like it much at first, ride it later in the day. When I first rode it around noon, it was fun with some airtime moments, but nothing too special. Later in the day, it hauled @$$, and there was a lot of airtime. It was a bit rough (similar to Avalanche/Hellcat in 06/07), but nothing terrible. Timbers even knocked off El Toro to be my #1 coaster if you need to know how much I like it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pros for Mich. Adv: 1. Timbers 2. Price 3. Timbers 4. Operations (for most part) 5. Timbers 6. Cleanliness 5. Timbers Cons to Mich. Adv. 1. No shade 2. No thrill flat rides 3. limited food options

Confusion and Frustration in Modern Times - Sum 41

^Plus, if you want to get unlimited rides on a coaster, just take the very short drive down the road to Mt. Olympus. While I won't be able to marathon ride Hellcat (the only coaster I ever did), I'm not disappointed with this. I want the park to be successful, and I'll still pay the $20 to keep the park going. The last time I was up there in 07, the park owners said that Mt. Olympus was hurting them a lot since they began to rapidly expand in 2005. If this is needed to keep the park open, I'll still pay and enjoy my time. Five rides is easily enough for probably at least 99% of those who visit, so only the upset enthusiasts like Nightmare500 might think twice before visiting. I don't think the park will mind that small loss in business.

I watched the pov, and some of the elements, such as the Stengal dive and hammerhead look really strange. I do like the layout though, and as long as the ride is not excessively trimmed, this could be a really good coaster. Even though this seems to be CF's mistaken belief that more coasters equals a better park, I think this will have a positive impact on the park. -
Really? I must have missed that part. It was a really fun event and the food was pretty good, plus it was FREE!!! I'm glad they actually aired this during the season. Great publicity for the park! Did anyone see themselves on TV? Some teen said something along the lines of the food being "Maverick good...which is a really good coaster". I was just thinking, "No, don't say that," as it made enthusiasts seem really dorky IMO. If I heard it again though, I probably would laugh but not think much about it. It was one of those things that sounds bad the first time, but in the end, is nothing at all. It was great propaganda for the park too, and the lead park worker seemed to really promote Six Flags being a family friendly place to visit.
-
I watched part of it, switching between it an Man v. Food, and it was a fairly good show. It's amazing what can be made using the food found around the park, and although I know it'll never happen, I'd like to see Six Flags sell some of it. I did cringe when the coaster enthusiast made the Maverick comment at the end though.

^While I'm sure many enthusiasts would rather have an El Toro style coaster, I don't think it would have done what you think. While Kings Dominion doesn't have an exceptional wooden coaster to my knowledge, I believe a pre-fab wooden coaster would have been just another wooden coaster to the gp. A wooden coaster could also backfire in marketing because a lot of the gp think wooden coasters are old, so they might think that they are getting an old ride being passed off as being new. The giga coaster has a huge marketing potential. It will be not just the park's biggest coaster,, but the biggest coaster in the south. -------------------------------------------------------------- While I am disappointed that there is not more to the layout, I am excited to see how it is when it is built. It looks a lot like a mega lite, so hopefully it gives as good of a ride as they do.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
Airtime&Gravity replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^When the train I was on was on the brake run on Viper, a father was asking his kids if they wanted to ride Rolling Thunder. I assumed he was from the NYC-Philadelphia and was talking about American Eagle. Now, this would not get him listed here. His kids asked which one he was talking about. He then said something along the lines of "the big orange one behind us." At Indiana Beach, someone was telling his friends how either Cornball Express or Hoosier Hurricane used to be a steel coaster, but the park turned it into a wooden coaster. Not said, but it made me wish I was blind. An elderly man was at Michigan's Adv. wearing a button up shirt, but the only thing was that it wasn't buttoned. Actually, there were a lot of red necks showing off too much skin at Michigan's Adv. -

I read a theory/reason on Screamscape that the reason for the OTSR was to accommodate larger riders. Apparently, many larger riders complained about not being able to fit on Millennium Force and Dragster. This is supposedly the reasoning behind the same restraints being on Kingda Ka. Of course, I theorize that a safety reason might be why. Maybe parks now are being a little over protective after the deaths on S:RoS, Perilous Plunge, and Hydro where people fell out after being too large(S:RoS) or too small(Hydro, I recall reading that the victim had an eating disorder) This ride looks like a lot of fun, and while I wanted it to be bigger than Millennium Force, I knew it probably wouldn't. Even though it is smaller than I wished for, the design looks great with how it resembles a mega-lite. It is nice how Kings Dominion is finally getting a new noteworthy coaster, as it is something the park really needed.

Due to the wording, my interpenetration of the post was that it was a rant. It just seemed like the poster was complaining about stuff that should have been expected. Sorry I will say that the coaster looks fairly ghetto though. MOD EDIT by larrygator: No biggie, words on the internet can easily be misconstrued. As a mod I just don't want a small misinterpretation to grow.

I don't think anyone said it was. Let's work through what you said... Well, it is a movie theater. You have to pay for an extra offered at the theater? Who knew. Are you going to complain about the popcorn not being free too? The only logical part of the rant I found was if it is true that the staff isn't that good. Of course, the theater could be understaffed with the workers working at the places everyone will use (tickets, concessions, projections, etc.). Why would they let you bring food in for free when they want you to buy the food they offer? It is nice to see Amusement Park Drive-In offer new twist on the drive-in theater, and it's nice to see people give the whole concept a new chance since the whole business is fairly new if i remember correctly.

Looks like another great addition for the park. I've only heard great things about these rides, and this one looks to be the best yet. I'm not a big water park person, but if I go to Holiday World next year, I just might have to go into Splashin' Safari. -

Even though the rendering is of poor quality, this ride still looks great. Even though it isn't very big, there should be some good airtime, and with the relatively compact layout, there should be some good g-forces. It looks like a lot of fun, and it should be a great addition to the park with it being both the only looping and launched coaster in the area. -
Part 3: What should be the last set Thanks for reading Random ducks The Galaxi is somewhere back there in the water park. Here you can see almost the entire park Giant Wheel again The Giant Wheel offers some great views Obligatory tiki head photo Cornball races through a turn above the park's kiddieland. Cornball Cornball Cornball is a lot of fun with some great airtime. Cornball is my 5th favorite wooden coaster. Cornball The Falling Star was fun. Swinging over the lake Water Swings Coasters are everywhere at IB. Fascination, but I didn't have time to play. A car about to enter the first turn. It is just one mess of track. While not very tall, Tig'rr Coaster manages to get going very fast. Tig'rr Coaster

Part 2 A ride op at Steel Hawg said that on a new top thrill ride T.V. show, Steel Hawg made the list. Hurricane towers over the park. More updates will come tomorrow and possibly Monday depending on my available time and ability to narrow down my photos. Hurricane runs over the water along the edge of the park. Hurricane - while a train is running, the ride is closed and will be for the rest of my day there I believe. Hurricane Hurricane's Station Hurricane For you lift hill enthusiasts Super incredible nerd shot Steel Hawg is a mess of track Waiting to enter the station again random track Super nerd shot Coming into the brakes The downward barrel roll was a cool element Steel Hawg Another nerd shot Steel Hawg again Nerd Shot You spend what seems like a long upside down here Lots of strange elements Steel Hawg was a great ride

I finally made it out to Indiana Beach today, and I was impressed with how great of a park it was. While it had some problems, it is an all around great park. If you've never been there, the best way to describe it is if someone built a bunch of rides in a tourist trap town. The rides are all owned by Morgan RV Resorts, but there are several independently owned businesses which make the park unique. The rides: Steel Hawg - I knew the elements to expect, but even with that, this ride still scared me. The ride is a ton of fun, but there are several "Oh crap" moments throughout. It isn't very intense, but it is very smooth and a lot of fun. It probably places in my top 10 steel coasters, but I'm not sure where. LoCoSuMo - A very fun but very messed up coaster. It was fairly smooth, but it is just so wrong but so fun. Frankenstein's Castle - a fun cheesy walk through haunted house. It is worth the $4 it costs to do. My only complaint is the 12-14 year old boy in the group that I was in kept criticizing how stupid and lame the effects were. Hoosier Hurricane - probably the disappointment of the trip. It's fun, but there was little to no airtime when I rode. There was only one train operation on it and it broke down later in the day, so I was unable to reride it in hopes of changing my opinion (see Cornball). Cornball Express - When I first rode it, I didn't see why everyone loved it. There wasn't much airtime, and it just didn't seem to deserve all the praise. I rode it later in the day, and it was on my second ride when it lived up to the hype. There was plenty of airtime, and the train flew around the course. It was a great ride and it probably places around 3-5 on my favorite wooden coaster list. Double Shot - This was my first S&S tower ride, and it was a lot of fun...scary, but fun. Galaxi - This coaster was a surprise. It was smooth and had some good moments of airtime. Tig'rr coaster - I didn't know what to expect, but this coaster was a lot of fun. Water Swigs - scary but fun yo-yo over water Falling Star - fun flat ride Giant Wheel - scary ferris wheel of death Schafer Queen - boat ride that allowed me to get some nice photos. Unfortunately, I didn't ride Den of Lost Thieves as it was so hot and humid (ambulance even took a heat stroke victim away), that by the time I would have ridden it, I wanted to leave. Air Crows was closed. The tacos and Pronto Pup are great. So yeah, go visit Indiana Beach. I have a lot of photos, so they will be posted over multiple posts. However, feel free to post between updates, and any can be used for the index. Flying Bobs again More to come soon...or later...or whenever Next update: the coasters Flying Bobs - another ride I have no intention of riding Sea Dragon Yes, the Tig'rr coaster is built on top of a restaurant (the Dog n' Suds) Air Crows was closed Indiana Beach Double Shot Double Shot Double Shot Double Shot IB has the same dual water slide thing that Kiddieland has Fail...or win? bumper cars same ride flat ride The splash battle looks fun, but it fails compared to SFGAM's. Plus you have to pay to use the off-ride water canons here. Cornball and Hurricane cover the kiddieland Log flume again Log flume, but the line was too long for a mediocre looking ride for me IB There's even a Dog n' Suds here, although it wasn't very clean. Even if it was cleaner, I didn't want to eat there since there is one not too far from SFGAM, and because there is better food at IB. Galaxi Galaxi The Galaxi is tucked away in some water slides Den of Lost Thieves building Den of Lost Thieves - next time I'll ride it Frankenstein's Castle character Frankenstein's Castle character Not so much rattling, but more along the lines of just really messed up LoCoSuMo LoCoSuMo just like the car ride and a lot of the other rides at IB is built over the water Here is a caption about the sign LoCouMo was the first coaster of the day. It opened late due to testing not happening until after the park opened, but I ended up on the first train of the day. Here is a map of Indiana Beach. There is a lot to do in a small area.
