  1. Then let us explain it for you. Woah, hold on. 131 feet shorter? That would put High Roller at about negative 27 feet tall. It used to have airtime. Then they put trims at the end of the turnaround. Actually, that's pretty much the reason. There are many parks that have more than one wooden coaster. Hersheypark in Hershey, PA has two twisters, Wildcat and Lightning Racer, and an out and back, Comet. Six Flags America in Upper Marlboro, Maryland has a twister, Roar, and and out and back, Wild One. It's very common and makes for a well-rounded park. You are right, but steel coasters and wooden coasters have completely different feels. Excalibur sucks fantastically nowadays. I remember when that drop actually got you a speed of over ten mph. Actually, VF! isn't duplicating at all. Renegade and High Roller are VERY different rides. You make a very good point, but this is the coaster world, not a college library. Think of it this way: if a college already has a library, does it mean that the college in question can't have a campus book store? Of course it doesn't! That's more what Renegade and High Roller are when compared. First of all, I think you mean GCI, not CGI. Valleyfair! most likely decided to get Renegade about two seasons ago. If you ever get the chance to ride a GCI with Millennium Flyer trains (all but Roar at SFA, Gwazi at BGA, and Wildcat at Hersheypark), you will see what a huge difference there is between High Roller and GCI. Go ahead and call their Public Relations department if you want. They'll give you any information they can. Good, now that's out of your system. I hope that helps. Thanks for analyzing my post and sharing your opinion. And yes I mean GCI, need to train my finger while typing.
  2. Im not so sure you understand the coaster world. Think about this: SFMM has Riddler's Revenge, correct? The coaster is also a steel B&M with inversions, correct? Well then, using your theories, why would they want Scream!, B:TR, or Tatsu, which to my knowledge are all steel B&M coasters with inversions. Heck, why would they want Deja Vu, Revolution, Viper, or X, which are also all steel coasters with inversions? Your theory is flawed my friend, most parks like to have a variety of steel and wood, and one wooden coaster usually is not enough. Now to directly answer your question, Im sure Valleyfair chose this coaster for a few reasons: 1- They need a new woodie 2- GCI provided a design that delivered 3- GCI provided a design that was cheap (relatively speaking). I dont understand why everyone is b!tching about this coaster, Ive said it before and Ill say it again, Renegade looks SWEET! I dont think I've made myself clear in some way. Riddler's Revenge and Scream is a completely different ride since Riddler's a stand up and Scream is a floorless. I understand your perspective but mine is different than yours. I personally don't think they need a new woodie and I am not crazy how much different GCI will provide compared to High Roller. I applaud Valleyfair for getting Renegade since they barely add anything productive but their decision is puzzling. As a decision making level manager, I would have gone toward a different direction.
  3. I am deeply baffled on what motivated Valleyfair to get this coaster. They already have High Roller, which is a wooden coaster and it is only 131 feet shorter than Renegade. Plus, it has airtimes. Then why another wooden coaster? Is it because they just wanted a twisty track? I believe that can be achieved by twisty B&M, Intamin, or even EuroFighter. Also they have Excalibur which is a wooden/steel hybrid. Valleyfair is duplicating, which is considered a bad thing in business world. At several of previous jobs I had, we were not allowed to duplicate since it is a waste of money, our times, and customer's time. For example, if a college already have a library... would you build another one? Of course not! Back to my question, what made Valleyfair decide to get this ride? Is it a general public poll? Was it a random drawing thing? Did they made a special deal with CGI? Now I am tempted to call Valleyfair and try to get them to answer my question. Gosh!
  4. Well, yes Valleyfair cannot please everyone and that is a hard fact. I used to think Valleyfair was one of the "The Engine that Could" parks but I was wrong. I am so glad I moved to Richmond, which is less than 50 miles from KD and BGE. Just need to clear my schedule to visit each parks for first time!
  5. As a native of Minnesota and former season pass member of Valleyfair, I hate to say that I am disappointed with the layout. Of course it is too early for me to say this because I need to ride it first. When I first saw the layout and POV, my first thought was... Valleyfair could do better than that. Interestingly enough, that was exactly my thought when I first saw the layout of Wild Thing in 1995 and my thought has not changed since.
  6. Wow, that PTR bought back memories. 1994 was the first time I've visit SFGAM afte years of begging my parents. I have literally begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, begged, and begged 100x and my parents were stubborn as heck. (ironically, they took me to Cedar Point per my request several years later which is further than SFGAM) Ended up begging my grandparents once and they took me there all the way from Minnesota. Yeah baby! Psst, what happened to your wrist?
  7. Once upon a time there were two pencils sitting on an office desk. They were so deeply in love with each other. They want to touch each other's lead so badly but they couldn't! A guy who were sitting on the desk saw them and felt bad for them... so he picked one of the pencils up and started writing a love story about them. The end.
  8. 1. I live less than 50 miles from BGE and KD but NEVER been to both parks. 2. I've ridden 131 coasters. 3. Sign Language is my primary language. 4. I'm getting married in November. 5. I'm mostly a lurker.
  9. Mine was the Corkscrew at Valleyfair! when I was about 8 years old. I remember how awesome it was and I made my aunt ride it 53,314 times with me that day. It's amazing how years of coaster riding made this coaster seems like nothing. Corkscrew at Valleyfair!
  10. 80,000 ft?? You'd be dead by then. Couple of years ago two Northwest pilots decided to attempt 40,000 ft on their CRJ model while there were no passengers on the plane. Their plane jacked up and crashed, killing both of them. I believe that happened maybe Missouri or Kansas (I might be wrong about the location). The highest I ever flew was 38,000 ft on Qantas Boeing 747-400 on way to New Zealand. Anyway, back to the subject of this thread. I prefer Northwest since I am orginally from Minnesota and that is where they're based. So yeah, I have a lot of mileage with them. Second preferred airlines is United.
  11. Hey, I have been to that exact exhibit in Chicago. It was at the Science & Industry Museum and man... stuff you see in there are definitely creepy and bizarre. I highly recommend it though... a bit NC-17 but very interesting.
  12. Your link doesn't work. I fixed it for you. http://www.screamscape.com/assets/images/2006_0725_GASM_track_missing_200.jpg
  13. Yes, I admit I did ate there once. That was back in 2002 on my layover to New Zealand. Freakin' rip off, seriously.
  14. When I was 16 years old back in 1996, we went to Adventureland in Altoona, IA. That was the year The Underground opened and the park made the ride sound so thrilling through their advertisments. So when we got in the line and we ended up waiting for over a hour in scorching sun reading graffitis scratched into woods saying "This ride sucks!"... "This ride isn't worth it at all!"... "Boring ride, go home!" After over a hour sweating and reading degrading graffitis, we approached several huge vomit puddles. We had to walk on the queue railing to get around it. After all of that, we were so stunned how this ride sucked so much and how much of fools we were. The end.
  15. None! They force you to pay for parking just to shop and eat at Citywalk. Pure rip-off. Local malls is helluva better than CityWalk... even Mall of America's giantiatic parking ramp is free.
  16. Honey, it's no longer there. Unless you want to take picture of nice flat piece of land.
  17. There's a working model on display on 2nd or 3rd floor on west side of Mall of America. I dunno if it is still there.
  18. I've seen Batman without wheel covers at SFGam during FrightFest 2004.
  19. I browsed google video and found this. I did a search on TPR forum and found nothing so please forgive me if I overlooked! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3465613908744554470&q=Roller+Coaster
  20. That's weird. After looking at google map, I reconized it as Blue Bayou. I have not been there since 1992 from when I was about twelve years old. I am in a bit shock because I never knew they added amusement park (and changed the name to Dixie Landing?). When did that happened? Edit: Nevermind, RCDB is my best friend. http://www.rcdb.com/pd210.htm
  21. Yeah, I agree. They should get a B&M. After years of no upgrades and tons of visitors... they should have plenty of money for a shiny new B&M or Intamin. But this Batman coaster is better than nothing and I am still excitied!
  22. Finally something new after years of poor management and lack of rides. I rode it at SFAW in 1992 and I remember it as extreme headbanger but I don't care since it is something NEW for SFDL! *clapping* Now the biggest question remains... will it open this summer?
  23. Please understand that I have lived with my disablity all of my life and I judge rides heavily on accessibility. It frustrates me greatly when I can't experience things you guys experience. I understand your opinion about Mission Space is different than mine since it was a different experience for you. I respect that. I hope someday you will understand my barrier.
  24. I am with you guys. This is a great ride but I gave the ride a grade of D+ due to inaccessibility. I rode it back in 2004 and I enjoyed the movements, g-forces, visuals, etc but there were so much talking and commands! For myself, I am deaf and I rode with two other hearing strangers and they were looking at me and pointing to my controls. I was completely clueless until much later I found out that I was supposed to push buttons according to commands! Gosh!
  25. Hersheypark is a must! If not, Geauga Lake for credits. Avoid Six Flags Darien Lake, this park has done nothing but pissing me off a lot lately.
