  1. Anyone heard anything about that lil' hole in the wall shack of a bbq place, Burn's? That was some AWESOME eating! When I visited Houston last summer, it didn't look built to survive Ike, so I wonder if it's gone now.
  2. Amazing photos Hanno. Love this one where you can totally see the 2nd wheel from the rear coming up off the track!
  3. I love seeing this type of stuff. Thanks for sharing! If there's one good thing that came out of my Miracle Strip visit before its demise, it was also getting to visit SFNO during the same trip back in 2004. A friend and I planned a trip down to MSAP for closing weekend and decided to do other "nearby" parks, so naturally we included SFNO. It was Labor Day weekend and little did we know then what was in store exactly a year later when Katrina decided to pay a little visit to the park. I'm really glad I got to check it out as I think the park had a lot of untapped potential.
  4. Hey guys thanks for all the kind words of encouragement. I hope everyone else is getting as much of a kick out of this thread as I am. Shane, you're right...I would absolutely love it if others would contribute postcards to this thread. It would only make it all the more interesting! Can't wait to see what you and everyone else has to include. Also, I'm really looking forward to season 2 of your Amusement Attic! When can we expect the season premiere? ~Mark
  5. True Robb. It's been 3 years since I last rode SROS, so I'm sure it could use a little TLC if it hasn't really had much since then. It's just that it was such a perfect ride for me back then that it makes me a little nervous to see SF make these changes. I'm all for making it an even better ride if possible though, so guess we'll see next year.
  6. If it ain't broke why try fixing it? Seriously the money could've been spent on much better things IMO. I definitely hope the new trains don't have those OTSR's like the rockets. If so, SFNE can kiss #1 goodbye.
  7. Love the Sasquatch name! As I'm not that familiar with TGE having never visited, in what section of the park will it be located and will it fit the theming of that area? Or will it be like at SFOG for example with ride themes that don't match their respective areas (ala Superman in the Cotton States area)? The new improvements sound good.
  8. Nice PTR! I would love to get back to England some day and check out Thorpe. Thanks for sharing!
  9. This week we jump across the Pacific Ocean from Bowling Green to Tokyo and catch up with the TPR Asia trip for a visit to Tokyo Dome City! As you can see on the front of the card the giant dome is in the left foreground while there on the right is LaQua Park with Thunder Dolphin, and it's all located right in the heart of the city. I love how they do that in Japan. I think for most of us on the TPR Japan trip in '07, Thunder Dophin was a bit of a letdown. It looks so good yet doesn't do a whole lot after the first drop. I still found it to be fun though! The ride ops basically give you a strip search before they'll let you ride it, and then they all do a little cheer in unison before hitting the go button. The park also features the "Big O" hubless Ferris wheel, an Intamin parachute drop, Geo Panic -a really messed up indoor coaster, and a $40 giant hamburger! Back Front
  10. Yay! These are awesome pics from my "almost home park". Thanks for sharing!
  11. AWESOME! Thank you Robb for sharing!
  12. This is great! Thanks for sharing pics from a very little heard of park. Any park with Drunken Barrels and a looping Schwarzkopf gets my two thumbs way up. RCDB says they have a Schwarzy City Jet in storage but it operated for 2 years until 2005. Any idea why they took it down?
  13. Well if Kemah did have to do that, I hope they orient the lift hill in the "correct" direction facing the bay.
  14. Astroworldfan1...It is from a live webcast: http://www.khou.com/video/?nvid=178826&live=yes&noad=yes They have been reporting live from Kemah and showed it under water.
  15. KHOU is now showing the whole boardwalk under water.
  16. KHOU is reporting that 3 individuals were arrested early this morning for breaking into storage buildings at the boardwalk.
  17. I am seeing on a live webcast that water is already coming up through the boardwalk planks and the storm is still 12 hours away from landfall. I have friends in Houston, and pray and hope the best for all of you residents!
  18. Rapids Nerd...I remember Redstone's Oktoberfest being pretty cool back in the day (why don't they actually hold it IN OCTOBER?!) Hope you make it out and can share some pics with us although I think it's predicted to rain all week up here just north of you.
  19. Ok everyone gather round. It's time for postcard #2, and this week's feature is from where I refer to as my home park, Beech Bend Park & Splash Lagoon, located in beautiful Bowling Green, Kentucky. The park is located about an hour north of me, but since Opryland's demise I have adopted Beech Bend as my home park. While some would view the park as nothing more than a bunch of portable flat rides and a dragstrip, Beech Bend has had quite an interesting history since it began in 1880, even having been under ownership involving country music star, Ronnie Milsap. Ever since the Dallas Jones family acquired the park in 1987, Beech Bend has been on the upswing...thankfully! The park has some of my favorite rides like the Scat II, Kentucky Rumbler, the cheesy but historic Pretzel ride-through Haunted House, and quite possibly the best drop tower ever - Shock Drop! 20. Some great pics Bill. I really like the color saturation in the first castle pic. Thanks so much for sharing! ps...it would be nice to be back at Aventure Park relaxing on the veranda eating those cheese snacks you bought again lol!
  21. Is this in Huntsville at the old airport? If so, I went to it a good 10 + years ago when I used to live there. Good times and nice to see the ghetto torch bring carried on...thanks for the pics!
  22. It's nice to know that The Flaming Lips have their own floating hamster ball ride in China. Wayne Coyne would be so proud!
  23. These are amazing pics Jeff. Thanks!
  24. Nice pics there Jeff. Looks you guys are already having a blast!
  25. Thanks for all the positive comments so far!
