So what? Look at Goliath at SFOG... it's first drop is shorter than its second. How many times does that happen? -

Did anyone know about this?
Hercules replied to coasterguy4's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah I've known about this, but I feel it will just stay in storage. -
^ Yeah, but, that is where the problem is. That is about how far the train got up the track this morning. The ride started and then got stuck on the lift. It was believed that the lift was not working properly, but after hearing what people said they heard from some workers with measuring sticks in their hands, it is/was the gauging of the track. They said it should be testing this afternoon.

The surprising thing to me is, gas around here has gone down an average of 8 cents over the past 5 days.

I really don't like it that much when people complain about parking. People talk about places with free parking and think that Six Flags parks, or other big name chains shouldn't charge for parking, but the places with free parking have you park in a field. Now, there is nothing wrong with that at all, but that is the only way they can even think about free parking. What it really comes down to is what was just said. Do you have any idea what it costs to blacktop and maintain a parking lot/deck? Once again, as mentioned, it is a great deal of money. My father just redid a patch of about 20x120 at the bowling alley and it cost about $6000. Imagine doing that for acres and acres of property. It could take a while just to make back what it cost to prepare and maintain that space. They aren't necessarily making money off of people for a while. The parking lot is a huge expense and they are just trying to cut their way into what it cost(s).

El Toro Media Day...?
Hercules replied to gmoney422's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm sure they aren't planning on opening it this weekend. I haven't ever heard anything about testing yet. I hear that people have gotten invitations, but there is no date set yet. -
Going to Pennsylvaina
Hercules replied to dragoncoaster1292's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah that's really about it. There is nothing "near by". Like mentioned, Dorney is a little over an hour away. Just take Rt. 209 to 80 to 33 to 22 and you get there. I would say that Hershey and Dutch Wonderland are more in the range of 2 1/2 to 3 hours from there. You could actually get to a place called The Land of Make Believe in Hope, NJ in about 20-25 minutes. There is a small kiddie coaster there, some flats and a decent water park. It is mainly geared towards families and smaller children, but there is a "credit". Other than that, I really don't have anything for you. Tamiment gives me the shakes. I shot my worst score my senior year at their golf course and it almost cost me the scoring title. By the way, I was thinking more along the lines of coasters and since there aren't that many around, I'll give you a couple more options just for fun. There is a large golf course called Mountain Manor that has an area with an arcade, gofl carts, dune buggies, mini golf and bumper boats and batting cages if you want to go try that out. There is also Shawnee Place. It is really a kiddie kind of place, but I haven't been there in about 16 years, and I have heard they have really added to the place a lot. They have a water park (I believe) and other activities. I remember it being like a big Discover Zone, but outside. But basically, there are go-cart places all over and some mini golf places here and there. On the subject of mini golf, there is a kind of cool mini golf place on Rt. 209 called Adventure Golf. There is all kinds of crazy theming and stuff, and it is pretty much near a lot of decent restaurants. That might be something to consider checking out. Anyway, I'll stop rambling. -

I won't be riding this until next year and I'm definately not going to put a great deal of hype into it until then. There is really no point. However, I am kind of getting that way with El Toro, but since it is so close to me I think it is kind of just. No ride is worth hyping up before riding. That is just me though. -

Really good report! El Toro's first drop looks steep from any angle - especially since it is 75 degrees It's incredible. -
Don't take this as 100% fact, but I was informed earlier today that El Toro completed a pull through. This is from a somewhat trusted friend, but take it with a grain of salt considering the trains were just supposed to make it to the track today, so either they moved pretty fast or the information is false. Either way, I would expect testing to start this week. EDIT: Misinformed. The cell phone cut out as I was saying "Now all they have to do is a pull through and things will be on the way." And he said "It's done." He was referring to the track. No, really. Anyway, apparently there is a sign that says something to the affect of "2 weeks until the bull is released", or something like that. Interesting.

The one angle of the track makes me absolutely sure that it is an Aqua Trax. However, I'm usually always wrong now matter how many times I'm 100% right. I don't know what that means, you figure it out. It's late. -

The thing that really confuses me is when people say "How will that kind of ride fit into that theme." I mean, just about any kind of ride, except a mine train, can fit in any theme that a park themes it to. Just because they only Aqua Trax coaster out there has an elaborate Atlantis theme to it, doesn't mean that all of them have to be that way. -
It all depends on the kind of ride, like many have said. I like to keep my hands down on floorless coasters and inverts and just have them casually on my lap. Rides with a good amount of air I like to have my hands up. Rough wooden coasters and SLC's I hold on for dear life. The same thing with Arrow loopers.

Cell Phones and Rides
Hercules replied to ElBlufer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ That's a good point. I tend to like to meet up with people, so it is good to have contact with them throughout the day or to see where they are or whatever. I don't wear a watch either, so the phone acts as my time keeper, so it is kind of essential to have it on me. When I'm at school, I need to have it on me too incase my mother trys to call -

It doesn't have to all be over water to be a water coaster. -
Cell Phones and Rides
Hercules replied to ElBlufer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I actually just got back from the store for this reason. I got a decent camera bag for my new camera and I made sure it had a pocket for my cell phone. I'm a cargo pocket monkey, but I even tend to be a little uneasy with it in a pocket, even it is shut. I got tired of holding the thing with my hand because it took away from the ride experience for me, so I started unloading my pockets and placing everything into my hat to put on the unloading side of the station (I'm a hat monkey too - if I can wear one I will). I've grown tired of all of that too, so I just got the bag that I will put on the unloading side with all of my stuff. I tend to be fairly trusting of people and kind of give the ride ops a little credit. I usually put my stuff in obscure places anyway, like tucked in the lowest corner possible.
