  1. Success! Just got off Lightning Rod ! No assistance needed! Fun ride. Wish I could have ridden it in its "heyday". For any riders of "exceptional size" out there, stick with a plan. In March I was 332 and was denied a ride on Pantheon. 42 pounds down later I'm the skinniest man alive.

  5. ^Glad to hear bout the Scream Machine being open. Haven't seen it run at ALL this year. Went today and an empty train was stopped on the lift. Took my kid today as a reward for doing well for the first week of school. He's got some behavioral issues so this was actually a pretty big deal. Got to meet up with a friend, Doug, from the boards and the Mini East Coast trip several years ago. IT was awesome seeing him and meeting his kids. Got a few rides with them before heading our separate way. My kid LOVES water parks, even the one there. I am NOT a fan at all He did awesome in school last week for the first week of school, so I took him today and we went to the water park. Their biggest slide, with the toilet bowl and boomarang wall....they hand you this massive and heavy 4 person raft and have you carry it up 5 flights of stairs. My 6 year old did his best to help, but my tired old ass did not enjoy it....AT ALL. Spent the whole walk up hoping I wouldnt die and the whole ride down trying to catch my breath. Definitely a one and done for us. The wave pool must have been on "high" because it was kicking out butts. Kiddo loved it....me....not so much LOL Dry side was not crowded at all, which was awesome. Rode Dare Devil Dive with like a 10 minute wait (which is nothing for that.) Also managed rides on Mindbender, Catwoman, and Blue Ninja Hawk. One train on Blue Hawk, but the ops were on point and doing a good job and seeming to enjoy themselves - so kudos to them! Food service was miserable, as expected, but the food was good and there was plenty of it so I guess it balances out. If he's good again this week, I guess I'll be repeating this next Sunday.

  6. While they are at it, why not raise it up 36 feet to at least match kingda in height

  7. Dragster is a crowd pleaser as it is now. They're either going to keep it the way it is and needlessly redesign the queue, or get rid of it and put something in its place. As people have said time and time again, the launch did not cause this issue. It could have been replaced years ago if Cedar Point wanted to do it. This incident was a freak accident. It could just as easily happen on any roller coaster near any path. Heavy high velocity objects with multiple moving and bolted on parts can shed lethal objects at any given time. Cork Screw's loop over the midway. Mavericks sweeping turn over the pond. Millennium Force's passes near the queue and over the pathway tunnel. Gatekeeper over the main entrance. Raptor's cobra roll aimed at the pathway. The freaking sky ride... 37 deaths and 113 injuries have been documented from vending machines since 1979. This is a terrible accident, but it doesn't need to change the way the world works. I can promise you the lake has the potential to be far more dangerous than any of the roller coasters at Cedar Point. Pay out. Put reasonable measures in place (fences/nets), and move on.

  8. You're absolutely right on the first point about the GP not noticing. The only thing they could do to counter that is increase the launch speed to re-take the "fastest launch in the world" and then just add some trims at the near the top of the spike so the train doesn't crest too fast. But that's not going to happen; it's getting a new queue and some walls around the brake run or its coming out. Also, since when did Xcelerator's two additional turns count as a "bowl"? And please explain your logic behind CP not removing Dragster because a taller and fast (albeit, worse) ride exists in a completely separate market?

  9. Hey folks, I just removed a bunch of posts from this thread. Please be respectful to each other or we'll have to take further action. Thank you!

  10. I went by myself the last time I visited Knoebels. Looper did indeed require two people, but one of the operators happily jumped right in with me so I could ride. I asked him to spin/roll us. I ended up losing count of how many times we rolled over!

  11. Check out Screamscape! A new tictok hint was just dropped about clearing in Dino's area. I can confirm that all the pavement has been removed from the area. I saw this just a couple of weeks ago.

  12. That's what I get for not properly reading posts. I truly am sorry, both for the insensitive nature of my post but moreso for your loss.

  13. Yeah, Flying Turns if it's operating at opening first. Capacity is only 3-6 people per train and it's easily the slowest moving line at the park, even with the stellar operations. A lot of people go to Impulse first, as it suffers from the "first thing people see" syndrome. Phoenix is an awesome 300th! But Twister is just as awesome.

  14. Here's a fourth to what @bert425, @Pedrinho, and @JT325 said. I couldn't care less about Fascination, and yeah 5 hours is not enough to truly experience Knoebels. I made the mistake of just doing a "stopping in on the way through" for my first trip here, and probably spent less than 4 hours there. I left with a mediocre taste in my mouth, much like @Arthur_Seaton's experience. I decided that I didn't give the park a fair shake during that trip, and spent an entire day there on my next one...I discovered as so many have how truly magical it is. There really are no words that haven't been said to describe it. Even little things, like the Carousel, which I normally wouldn't be bothered with (sorry Bert!), are awesome. And Haunted Mansion. And Black Diamond. And Looper. And The Boats. And Paratrooper. And the Scooters. And the list goes on and on.

  15. if anyone was wondering, I "disappeared" from online for a bit due to an illness and death (that I don't think I'll ever be over). so I missed the grand opening, VIP party, and all the events surrounding the opening of Dr. Diabolical. i'm going to attempt a visit to the park this coming week (the last week of daily summer operations), as I'm still off work for bereavement. . . tho not sure i'll be up for actually riding anything, I'm going to try. So will see how it goes, and if I like the new ride. bert

  16. ^ that's not NEAR enough time for "everything" - Knoebels is WAY more than the 4 coasters. . the flats all run amazing programs, and the dark rides are fantastic (Black Diamond, Haunted Mansion). . as are the games (you can blow 3 hours just playing Fascination) and the museums (Mining, Park History, Carousel horse) I once spent 16 hours there (with TPR) and it still wasn't enough. go and enjoy, then plan to come back for at least 2 days. as to food. . .yeah, the Pizza is good, but I think the ownership just changed on it, so don't bother. instead "graze" at several places - 1) Perogies (from the good stand. . NOT the Round Stand, where they are fried) 2) Cheese on a Stick from Totem Treats 3) ice Cream from the Old Mill 4) Potato Cake from the Potato Cake stand. 5) Cesari's Pizza (original Slice, not the square) if you still wanna try a piece

  17. We had a great time in Branson this week. It was my two-year-old's first road trip, and our four hour trek (5 hours with a kid) wasn't bad. We went to SDC Tuesday. Rides: Flooded mine x2. (Her first dark ride.) Train. Carousel. The one at SFSTL is often closed, even more than Boomerang and Xcaliber, so despite her 5 or so carousels, she never gets to ride that one. This one was great, because it had smaller horses, too. Huck Fin's splash battle or whatever it is. We never ride these. Ever. The dads were cool about only spraying my wife and I, while saying, "Not the daughter! Dad only!" After shieling her, and getting constantly blasted in the face, I got a "Thanks for taking one for the team, Dad!" She loved it, so it was worth it. I've never been more soaked at a park. Fireman's landing was cool. We rode the fire dog's twice, which my daughter loved. Whatever drop/bounce tower thing we rode was a little too intense for her. It was "ok, all done?" by about our third bounce. I'm actually surprised this is a ride for kids under 36", accompanied by an adult. (We're at 34" now.) Aside from that, we let her play on the splash pad and scream for a while. The stunt dog show was a massive hit, and we were able to get out of the heat for a while. The hostess was awesome and sat us in the reserved seating, because my daughter is so damned cute. It comes with the territory of only being two, but having a shit ton of hair and being verbally advanced... She gets it from her mom. Dad brag. Pre-show the kids got to meet the big dog in the costume. After, they got to meet a stunt dog. She screamed in the ear of the people next to us the whole time. I gave up on stopping her, because I'm a prick, and I thought it was funny. It was hot AF, there were no lines, and I still managed to get a ride on one of my favorite wooden coasters. We had to leave for a few hours for a nap, so as usual that took a big bite out of our day. The little random shit you'd never care about as an adult was great for kids, like the cow utter thing, and big ball fountain. Despite thinking, "We didn't come here for this shit," you just let your kids enjoy it... Even if your young child walks well, bring a freaking stroller. I'm glad my wife talked me into it. It would have been an absolute shit show without it. Staff was friendly. The park was clean. The large building being constructed just absolutely ruins the entire park. Just trashed. We'll never be back. My wife was offended and our daughter cried. Branson was cool for kids. We read complaints about the aquarium, but why? I was really impressed. Food is really underwhelming, and I feel like it's all geared toward seniors. HOWEVER, Mr. Gilberti's Chicago Style Pizza in Hollister was some of the best pizza I've ever had. Ever. They only took reservations when we went, and there were signs warning about the hour + wait for your food, which wasn't a lie. Despite that, I'd say it gives Lou Malnati's in Chicago a run for its money. It's kind of a hole in the wall and seating is limited. They're going to tell you when you can come when you call for your reservations... without much flexibility. How did this place get here? Pizza, bottled domestics, and the best fried mushrooms I'd ever had was a welcome change from giant meatball places on the strip. We went full nostalgia mode and bought a couple disposable cameras, so we can make a photo-book. Two cameras and processing is about $150. Lol. Times change. My computer is on full dim mode, because of a wicked headache, and I'm not proof reading. Cheers.

  18. There are are only way too many mentions/rumors about it because enthusiasts are basically f*ckin' crackheads.

  19. hmmmm..... those markings at TTD..... the safest guess is that they are simply re-configuring the line area (not sure why that necessitated an entire down season, but maybe they needed the findings to come out, consider a variety of options, and finally execute on a plan....) I do suspect that they must have considered scrapping the ride because of the enormous costs and downtime on it. But as much as a LSM or multiple launch like Pantheon would make sense if built TODAY, from a return of investment standpoint, it makes very little sense to invest in an entirely new launch system on this ride because of all the reasons others have mentioned (new trains, LSM system, control system, etc.... -- that's a many, many millions investment for a change that the general public wouldn't even notice and so how do you market that investment? ) Now, I have to confess that the irrational fanboy part of me was hoping they would simply repurpose the tophat to create a 400 foot-full circuit ride (somehow)

  20. Just posted up my report from my visit to this park on June 30th, right here. Check it out and see if Thunder Run was truly worthy of being my 250th!

  21. Anton died in 2001. Intamin's roots are traced back to Schwarzkopf Industries and also Hubert Gerstlauer left Schwarzkopf when they were having financial issues in 1982 to start Gerstlauer. If you track back every company currently manufacturing, its very rare to not find connections to either Schwarzkopf or Arrow. Both were the original innovators of modern coasters.
