  1. Most interesting to me this year is the placement of Twisted Colossus. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a really fun ride...but it's definitely a "mid-tier" RMC for me. Plus, it sits on a parking lot. I'm kind of shocked to see it ahead of Steel Vengeance (and Fury...and I305) in the Steel Poll.

  2. Sarkanniemi Sarkanniemi has an amazing setting. This park is in the city of Tampere situated on the water. The one downside with this location is that parking is a hot commodity. I made sure to arrive over an hour before opening to secure a spot. And it turned out the park was open for a private event, so I was able to ascend the Nasinneula observation tower (Finland's tallest structure at 551 ft) to get some unique aerial shots of the park. Most of the coasters at this park are clones. But they're cloned models I enjoy. Hype is one of the best Sky Rocket II's because of the lack of comfort collars and view. The rest of the ride has the usually strong bursts of airtime and great hangtime on the barrel roll. Motogee is a fun Zamperla motorbike coaster. I think these rides have underrated launches and the compact layout has some fun turns. Trombi is the Zamperla Volare. I know most people hate these rides, but I genuinely like them. I've never found them uncomfortable, so I can enjoy the forceful turns and freaky barrel rolls. I did have to skip the Vauhtimato kiddie coaster though. That ride's queue line was spilling way out into the midway and I didn't think it was worth it. The lone unique coaster and undeniable star is Tornado. This is a rare Intamin invert and I really liked this coaster. It rode much differently than a B&M invert, but it was still smooth and enjoyable. The highlights are the two barrel rolls. Both had oodles of hangtime and the first one has one of the best near-misses of any coaster as it goes through an underground tunnel above the load platform (on-ride photo was taken with an approved Go Pro). The park had a pretty unique flat ride lineup. They had a well-run Zamperla Power Surge in High Voltage and a really weird Huss flat ride called TakeOff, but unfortunately this one wasn't run all that fast. I had to skip the rapids due to its line, but I waited 45 minutes for the flume. It was scenic, but the drops were shallow and not all that thrilling. Because of crowds, I ultimately decided to forego the second half of the day at Sarkanniemi to return to Linnanmaki. This proved to be a wise decision. Linnanmaki was dead due to a rainstorm. I was able to ride Taiga 7 times in an hour. I did like Sarkanniemi. The coaster lineup may not have many unique ones, but Tornado is a really nice coaster and the park has a great atmosphere. And it also has this adorable piggy train.

  3. Niagara Amusement Park & Splash World has announced that the Schwarzkopf shuttle loop coaster (believed to be the former Cascabel 2.0 from La Feria Chapultepec Magico and before that, Laser Loop at Kennywood) will begin construction soon!

  4. Quick update from today Closed rides. No movement on Montezooma yet. Supreme Scream has reopened but only with one tower. Green Tower Xcelerator is back open on weekdays (for 4 weeks it was only operating on weekends) Wipeout has been closed since Sept. Lastly Log Ride still has a week or two left of refurbishment.

  5. This 100%. I rode Velocicoaster and Maverick like 12-16ish hours apart last year, multiple rides on each in different seats on the trains, and while Velocicoaster is absolutely a top ten coaster, there really is no comparison in terms of intensity between the two. Maverick is solid top-five, Velocicoaster lower top-ten. That being said Velocicoaster is the best coaster in Florida and I can't believe in the space of a year we've gone from being a mostly B&M state to having an incredible Intamin Blitz coaster and as of this weekend we'll officially have a kickass RMC in the same park as Kumba. I personally love that Lightning Rod took the top steel spot. That should slap some sense into the people who weirdly want Dollywood to tear down that amazing coaster and replace it with another snooze-worthy B&M hyper because it might operate more days out of the season. And I'd love for the mutual riders that prefer Fury 325 over i305 to drop me a line on what bar they're going to because they must have some really good sh*t. El Toro is god, of course.

  6. This is awesome news! I can't believe a Schwarzkopf Shuttle Loop will be operating at Niagara Amusement Park! I love it how Gene Staples will be incorporating older, classic rides into the park! Hopefully I'll be able to cross the border once again sometime this year to finally be able to ride not only a Schwarzkopf roller coaster, but a Shuttle Loop coaster! I'm excited about the new future of this park!

  10. For what its worth in regards to activating the pass at the home park... Christmas 2019 me and my sister got season passes with SFGAm as the home park. Then covid happened and SFGAm barely even opened, it took until Christmas 2020 for a lights event. So I emailed back and forth with SFStL about activating my season pass there so that I could use my pass. It took ALOT of back and forth, but I was finally told I would be able to get my SFGAm season pass at SFStL. The big problem with activating season passes at specific parks is because the parks have a specific serial number on their cards. That super long number on the cards started with two digits specific to each park. For example, I think SFGAm started with "10xxxxxxxxx...". Different parks would be like "08xxxxxx..." or "04xxxxx..." So they say to go to your home park to activate because your home park has a specific physical card with a specific serial number, and I'm guessing other parks don't carry other parks cards. I was told I could go to SFStL and get my "10xxxxx..." card because they physically had them, and I think this is the case because SFGAm was literally closed all year and SFStL was the next closest park. They probably shipped a box or two down to SFStL for people like me. I doubt parks like SFMM or SFNE had the "10xxxx" cards. I have no clue if this is usually case or just because of covid. I went to SFStL FF 2020 to activate my pass at guest relations and it went well. It took a lot of manual input, but the person knew what they were doing and I never had problems going forward using my pass anywhere and I got the 10xxxxx card. I took my sister to SFStL to activate her season pass early 2021 before SFGAm opened for the season. This time guest relations had no idea what I was talking about. So instead of activating her pass, they gave her vouchers for admission, three meals and three snacks. We didn't get to activate her pass until we finally made it to SFGAm. So I can't speak on activating a season pass these days, but vouchers are an option, but I wouldn't count/rely on them.

  11. Marcus Leshock will be riding Iron Gwazi tomorrow morning live on WGN 9 news Chicago at 7:15am CST. He's bringing his coworker who said he hasn't been on a coaster since around 1980, so might be fun to watch him go from The Demon in 1980 to a world class RMC! No idea how that will go lol

  12. I'm looking forward to seeing how the new queue plays out on Screamin' Eagle. It was so depressing. Maybe we'll see the return of the old sign.

  13. Don't underestimate the volume of people who are still NOT traveling yet. And also because of the nature of this poll, it has to be people who are well traveled AND have ridden Velocicoaster along with many other rides that it is competing with. If our poll was simply as "popularity contest" maybe it would have ranked higher. But the reality very well may be those of who have ridden Velocicoaster AND had a 1 on 1 match up with the other rides ahead of it, may have ranked it lower. For me personally, I love Velocicoaster, but the weaker first half of the ride is why it barely made it into my top ten. Had the first half been as strong as the second half, I would have ranked it higher. And also considering that I've been on 20 of the 22 coasters that were ranked ahead of it, it's very possible that because I don't praise it as the best thing ever on the planet, could be one of the reasons why it's lower. Now obviously some of those 22 coasters I ranked lower than Velocicoaster but yet they still came in ahead of it. It all has to do with rider experience and how many 1 on 1 match ups a certain ride wins or loses. So perhaps people with less "experience" that ranked Velocicoaster higher, may eventually rank it lower when they gain more experience by riding more coasters. Or, maybe they will rank it higher. But that's exactly how this poll works and why it is so much better and fair than a typical "popularity contest."

  14. Once again I just want to remind everyone that the TPR Coaster poll is NOT a "Popularity contest" meaning is it not the traditional "He who gets the most votes wins" style of contest. The TPR Poll takes everyones riding experience and matches it together to determine a winner. So that means if Twisted Timbers came in ahead of Steel Vengeance that means more people that rode BOTH COASTERS preferred Twisted Timbers to Steel Vengeance. Even if Twisted Timbers has fewer overall votes. It matches only those who have ridden BOTH RIDES. The results are based on ACTUAL RIDING EXPERIENCES instead of just number of votes one ride gets. So while I understand that maybe YOUR FAVORITE coaster didn't get ranked where you wanted it to be, at least respect the fact that the results are that way because it legitimately lost more fairly, unlike a lot of other polls that are purely based on "Hey, go vote for our ride so we can win" even if the person voting has never actually ridden the coaster. Hope that makes sense to some of you.

  15. PowerLand This was a park north of the major cities in Finland and I knew very little about it prior to my visit. The park didn't have the atmosphere of the two city parks south of it, but PowerLand was clean and well-run. The main reason for my visit was the duo of Infinity Coasters. One was Junker and the other was junk. Junker was excellent. It's one of the most underrated coasters I have ridden. The launch has some real power to it. The rest of the ride has some strong airtime and awesome hangtime. And you usually get great laterals as you're coming out of your seat as well. I got nearly a dozen rides on this coaster after a marathon at the start and end of the day. The best comparison I can give for a coaster stateside is Adventureland's Monster with the launch of TMNT Shellraiser. One of the most puzzling coaster additions of all-time is Junker. This is a Gerstlauer infinity coaster plopped right next to Junker with the exact same colors and exact same theme. While Pitts Special has some good ejector airtime on the first drop and speed hill, the rest of the ride is sort of awkward. The elements are too large and/or drawn out. Thunderbird is the coaster that was cloned for American Thunder at Six Flags St. Louis. Those who rode American Thunder in 2020 said the ride was running slower than usual. That is how Thunderbird ran. It was smooth, but it only had a few mild pops of airtime. Cobra is one of the best boomerangs. It's one of the newer ones, so it tracks very smoothly. It also has a blast of fog as you careen through the station and a unique set of trains. Joyride and Neo's Twister are the park's two family coasters. Neither were standouts, but they were fine for what they were. And I of course rode the kiddie coaster. It was a royal pain to find since it was tucked in the far corner of the park only accessible by a narrow, hidden pathway, but I got the credit! Beyond the coasters, there were a few other rides of note. Pegasus was a crazy flat ride from Technical Park. The ride program was throttled, but when it ran at its highest speed, I had no clue where I was going between all the flips and rocking. It was a delightful blend of hangtime and positive Gs at its highest speed as the seats would randomly flip. Kwai River was a bizarre log flume. After the first drop, you don't hit a splashdown. Instead, you continue speeding down this track and round an unbanked turn, getting some nasty laterals. You then go down another drop. The final plunge is pretty big for a flume and even gives a pop of airtime. Dragon Tower is a great drop tower. This is another Moser model, but the spinning seats grant a great view for everyone on the ascent. And the drop had me floating out of my seat the entire way down. One cool thing they do is that they alternate running it as a drop tower and an observation tower. There are two separate lines, so you can pick the program you prefer. Devil's Mine Hotel was a creeky dark ride, but the ride worked well enough and I really liked the western theming around the attraction. The one weird thing with this ride is that you had "ammo" so you only had a limited number of shots you could take. I've never seen a shooter limit this before. There were also some weird kiddie rides. There was a line of mechanical bulls that was chucking children left and right. And then there was this ball pit mounted on a rotating platform. I don't think we'll ever see either of these in America. PowerLand was a park I really enjoyed. Crowds were manageable and the ride lineup was pretty unique. But the reason to come here is for Junker. That ride is fantastic.

  16. Also, which ride had more downtime this year? The #1 or #2 best coaster in the world?
