A new extreme in roller coaster excitement is coming to Oaks Amusement Park during the spring of 2018! The ride features a 72' vertical lift, past-vertical initial drop, 97° loop, an Immelman turn, heartline roll, 45 mph maximum speed, 1,050' track, and a 48" minimum height.

All the statistics listed match up perfectly with the 320 model (Hydrus at Casino Pier) https://rcdb.com/14231.htm

Great news! It's not often you hear about a new coaster coming to the Pacific Northwest! 2018 is a great year for almost every area of the country!

Wow, this is definitely news! :airtime: And close, too! :airtimer:

But... :( the naming contest is USA entries only, allowed.

Well, I hope it gets a great name, all the same.

P.S. I think I've discovered a 2018 trip to take, that won't cost me $$$$$$!

Amazing. Last thing I would have anticipated for Oaks. (not that I've ever anticipated anything for this park).

Great addition! Hydrus was a ton of fun. I hope this version has the lap bar only trains too.

Hopefully with Portland's growth and the available land that Oak's can start to grow into a solid theme park with new rides over the next 10 years. Not much in competition in the NW. I have always felt it's an untapped market. The old Janzten beach park was always a big draw back in the day.

^^It will! Details are scattered in the comments on this FB post, which contains the same information found in the OP/naming contest.

Thoughts...I'm so, so glad this is what the addition turned out to be! Was up last night reading reviews of Hydrus to make sure I'm in for a pleasant surprise, and it sounds like that'll be the case. Super glad they went with lap bars, whether that's what Gerstlauer is currently pushing or purely a park-by-park decision.

My #1 guess was an El Loco or Eurofighter, but I'd steeled myself for disappointment as is only appropriate for a small, carnival-style park that's replacing its Pinfari looper. I enjoy Eurofighters, so I'm :airtime: =) :airtimer:

YES!

I know this is only a Eurofighter, but this announcement actually makes me more excited than some of the larger coasters being announced, mainly because it is great to see a coaster-starved region of the country finally see some attention. I go to Portland all the time. I love the city, but I have always wished that it had a full size amusement park. I am glad to see somewhat of a change to that status. I am looking forward to riding this next time I go there!

Can you see the donkey in my toast?

Lots of awesome announcements on National Rollercoaster Day, but this is the most surprising one. It's a big move for Oaks and will put Oregon on the rollercoaster map. Next time I visit Portland I'll definitely swing by Oaks if its open.
