Intimidator305 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Saw the other pictures from the train and there is quite a bit of track back there! I do like the support color as they seem like they will go well in Wilderness Pass... I'm still very interested to see how they make that bright blue track fit in with the park... Atleast Wilderness Pass is the brightest section of the park (thanks to River Battle) so it shouldn't be impossible and I trust Dollywood.
robbalvey Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 (edited) ADMIN EDIT! PHOTO REMOVED! ONRIDE PHOTOS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE TAKEN AT DOLLYWOOD. THE PARK HAS ASKED US TO REMOVE THIS PHOTO - AND THEY ARE WELL AWARE THAT IT WAS NOT TAKEN BY A TPR MEMBER. AND TO DISPEL SOME STUPID RUMORS BY REALLY IDIOT PEOPLE, NO, TPR DID NOT GET "BUSTED" BECAUSE OF THE PHOTO, IN FACT, WE APPROACHED DOLLYWOOD ABOUT IT AND ASKED THEM WHAT WE SHOULD DO WITH IT. THEY TOTALLY THANKED US FOR BRINGING IT TO THEIR ATTENTION. HATERS GOTTA HATE.... Since this one has been removed, he apparently has pictures taken from the Dollywood Express as well. As far as I know, photos are and always have been allowed on that attraction. I'll ask Dollywood if photos taken from the train are ok. Edited June 8, 2011 by robbalvey
Skycoastin Steve Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I'll go ahead and throw floorless out the window, those don't get built anymore. http://rcdb.com/9647.htm Anyway...I was really hoping for this to be true. I always said that dollywood would never get a beemer, but in the back of my head I was hoping they would! I wonder what can be done with the bright blue color since, as it was said, most all their rides are "earth toned"... Ah, thank you for pointing out an obscure ride in Hong Kong. I mean, considering this is the United States and the floorless craze is over (none built in 6 years), but I guess the building habits of Wang Chung Park in Hong Kong should be watched from now on.
Shavethewhales Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 ^The floorless is still a perfectly valid ride choice for park's that want a big looper. I don't think that was as much of a passing craze as this wing walker thing will be, as I think parks will return to the floorless again in the future. Maybe the wing walker will pan out better than I think, I just don't see the added value for all the extra effort that they seemingly take to build and operate. Can someone who's actually been on a wing walker clue us in on the ride experience? Also, how does loading work? Considering how much Raptor cost, I wonder how much the park will have leftover to theme this thing. Raptor wasn't big, but it was themed somewhat well. I wonder if we're looking at a similar track length with somewhat better theming? Seems hard to believe that only a few years after plopping down $17 million for MM they're spending even more on this, AND they've added multi-million dollar attractions in the years in between. Not that I'm jealous or anything.

Well, Jarmor ALWAYS has to be right...even though I knew, and I'm sure most other people also, knew what you meant with the thought in your post...
KDcoasterMAN Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 ^Its been 5 years since MM... That's a long time between coasters... and some parks have gone longer....
Hilltopper39 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Wow has it really been 5 years since Mystery Mine? Seems like that thing just opened, I guess time flies when you build quality attractions every year in between the major coasters! (Take note every other park in the World).
dragonskeep Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 The new ride for Thorpe looks to have some pretty cool elements and I'm pretty sure you could do something cool with the terrain. I know B&M has stayed away from launches but the whole fireworks announcement indicates launch to me. The tag line I have heard is something like, sometimes the sky is not the limit, and that doesn't really fit Wing Rider in my opinion. I hope they don't alter the landscape to put, just another B&M, down on top of it. If they build something unique I will probably love it but having the first North American Wing Rider wouldn't be very exciting.
Skycoastin Steve Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Well, Jarmor ALWAYS has to be right...even though I knew, and I'm sure most other people also, knew what you meant with the thought in your post... Thank you, Robb. And I unfortunately know all to well about him.
PhantomNick Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Okay, that settles it....with this addition in 2012, I simply HAVE to get my happy butt to Dollywood!! I'm thinking along the same lines as some of you that this will be the first U.S. wing walker. Either way, any B&M at Dollywood is a good thing!
jarmor Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 HATERS GOTTA HATE.... Well...I wanted to make sure those folks who didn't know what he was talking about knew...heavens forbid someone brings something to someone attention. Anyway...about this blue and tan beemer...I really wonder if we gonna be wing walking while flipping head over heels!
Skycoastin Steve Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Everything I've heard is that it's going to be a "huge" attraction, like really huge. If it's going to be a first of its kind attraction in the U.S., a wing rider still makes sense. However, the rumors I've heard about how big this ride is going to be lend me to believe that it could be a hyper wing rider, which would be insane. If that was the case, I'm guessing the "world record element" would have to be the world's tallest inversion. But we'll see. But then again, this is all just me thinking out loud.
coasterfreak101 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 ^I thought it was supposed to be like 110' or something like that? Unless it has a huge drop down the side of the mountain, that could make it a hyper. I don't know the terrain at all.
Skycoastin Steve Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 ^It's definitely on a mountainside, and where did you hear the 110' figure? I've heard the 11 foot figure that was a mistake, but I haven't seen any other rumored height numbers.
tntornadox Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I have heard 110' being thrown around as well, probably because seeing as the 11' was a typo, it would leave one to believe the actual height is 110'.

I've heard the 11 foot figure that was a mistake, but I haven't seen any other rumored height numbers. I thought I saw that it was corrected to 110'. I don't know though, maybe I just fixed it in my head.
Skycoastin Steve Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 ^Gotcha. Well with the terrain they have to work with there, it's believable that there could be a pretty sizable drop down a hill. I'm still going with the world's tallest inversion, but we'll find out soon enough.
Intimidator305 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 (edited) Yeah I remember someone saying that a local news station corrected themselves saying 110' instead of 11'... Of course the person had no proof of that so I'm not quite sure if that's the actual height due to no true sources, but it seems like it would be about right. ^ & yes, the world's tallest inversion could happen considering the mountainside is pretty far up there. I could see it hanging over the Wilderness Pass section of the park right across from Adventure Mountain. Edited June 8, 2011 by Intimidator305
Shavethewhales Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I don't see it being the world's tallest anything. The hill isn't that big, and the inversion would have to be over 150 feet. I don't see them putting a 200 ft drop on this thing. The world's first element will probably be something mildly interesting that hasn't yet been done on a B&M wing walker (ie, something that Raptor doesn't have). The best I can think of is something like an extended raven turn. I'm mainly excited to see the theming/total package on this one. I don't think the park will do themselves any favors trying to hype up a single element. The more I think about it, the more I think this thing will have a bird theme. The cars will likely be themed to birds while the choice of blue track is probably intended to blend with the sky. I know an eagle theme idea was tossed around by some enthusiasts earlier, and would go with their eagle sanctuary and preservation efforts.

That would atleast fit in with the Wilderness Pass theme as it is based off of the national park, environment, and rangers. I hope they don't put a random theme back there but I do think the eagle theme would work. As for the station and such, I would imagine it would go with the architecture of the buildings in Wilderness Pass while including some stone work to blend in with Adventure Mountain.
tntornadox Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I think it may be themed to some crazy flying machine invention... The Park surveyed around a few years ago and one concept was 'Smoky Mountain Wilderness Adventure: The Ride' (remember the corny simulator film with Dolly and Clovis?) Maybe this is the expanded idea of that concept? Although I see the point about theming fitting in... who knows?
coasterbear30 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I meant to write that in my post on here the other day that I have a good feeling that it will be an eagle theme. Like someone before me said, they have an eagle sanctuary there and this will be close to that. It would fit in with the Dollywood theming. It could have an eagle head on the front of the train and the seats could have wings. It makes perfect sense.
RollerCoasterSmi Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 HMMM... Source: RCDB If it is an eagle I hope it is Cheetaka style (artistic) rather than Tranan (Cartoon). I think Steampunk flying machine is an awesome idea.
dragonskeep Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I could see the eagle concept working out awesome for Dollywood. I aslo heard somewhere that the tag "sometimes the sky is not the limit", could refer to tunnels. I have a feeling that this will be a good B&M and have some nice themeing but probably not going to be a hyper. A WingrIder Hyper would be great but damn it would be expensive, that would be a huge ride for sure. It seems to me like a more narrow design would work better for a terrain coaster as the forest they would like to go through will have to be knocked down to get the trains through there. An eagle concept with Wingrider trains does seem to fit in a lot of ways though.

Looking back thru at some of the construction pictures it looks like the area it is going in already has a good amount of trees removed already for the project. I see this as being a coaster that will spend as much time in the air as on the ground but I just dont see "the sky is the limit" equating to tunnels...
