P. 799: 2026 addition teaser campaign begins!

Mountain Sidewinder was built for the terrain and now with Wild Eagle sharing the top of the mountain with it, there really isn't anything useful that could go in its place. Besides its popular and as long as it doesn't become a problem to maintain, there is no reason to remove it.

2016 has been a year that rumors were flying around even before FireChaser Express even opened, so I'm sure this addition is a big one Dollywood. No better way to get people to fill your brand new resort than a brand new multi-million dollar attraction.

Interesting development if it turns out to be true.

I was looking at the property Dollywood owns and sure enough they do own the hillside (and more) that's across the service road from Rockin' Roadway...so I suppose its possible to go across the street and up in to the hillside area for a new coaster...which I circled in red on this map. The yellow highlighting is Dollywood property, or most of it at least.

That is also where the employee parking lot is located, which could end up being useful for a staging area (and track storage).

^Right. AND just like Firechaser, they could build the maintenance workshop and coaster storage at a location on the hillside, which would save space at the station area/Rockin Roadway. The hillside location would be accessible by that staff parking lot, or just off of it.

The more i think about this location, the more it makes sense. It continues the construction pattern of Adventure Mountain, Wild Eagle & FCE - building on hillsides that are too steep for buildings, but make great spaces for terrain hugging coasters....lots of parks would be envious of the hills here. Also, a new coaster would definitely breath a ton of life into Jukebox Junction and that side of the park, which has not seen a new ride in over 10 years when County Fair was totally re-done in 2004.

Ok i'm sure I can post what I saw now...

it was a video, showing a fly by shot of a 50's-60's style hot rod. its been some time but I think it had a flame paint job. Well, after some shots of the car it speeds off and I think creates fire down its path. it then zooms into the license plate which reads a variation of "dollywood 2016". It was a rather short teaser and saw it only once so my level of details is a little cloudy. I even asked if the car was headed to jukebox junction...I got a huuuummmmm maaaayyybbeee answer.

So this leads me to think its not inverted or a wooden coaster...but pretty sure its a launched one!

^carowinds hosted this years winter warm up, which is sponsored by ACE southeast. Next year Hollywood is hosting it...

Maybe by that time they'll have some nice shiny new steel to show off!

Maybe an incredible hulk style launch? I remember dollywood mentioning (in Amos' video) B&M when they were talking about the new ride.

Can you please link the video or tell me where I can find it..

The question was if they will work with B&M again...he talked about how great they are and that was that. I don't think it would be a beemer since its common for dollywood to do a "first" type ride, be it first ever or first in the states. Maybe its the states first aquatrax or even a launched, inverted-ing, racing wooden coaster with 8 high five elements . Anything is possible at this point...right???

Wow, looks like our location guesses may have been right, this is exciting!

Exciting news from a reader who passed by Dollywood this week. They report that the tram stops in the parking lot have been gutted or removed, including the main stop at the park outside the Emporium. The fence barriers and gates have been removed as well here. Meanwhile all new landscaping is being set up in the upper parking lot, which is nearly finished looking, along with what looks to be a new ticket building and turnstiles being built to the left of the old group entrance.

What got them really curious however was the fact that the hillside area across the employee entrance road from the Rockin' Roayway attraction is all torn up with new construction hardware working full tilt on some kind of project. Lots of survey markings all over as well, along with a report of flags spotted going up the hill to the HR building. I've posted a few pictures they sent along showing off this new work area.

Yup, that seems to really solidify things, at least to the point that we can now definitely expect a coaster in 2016. I would rather they went back to more of the authentic 1880's theme instead of expanding the 50/60's area, but as long as it's a well-themed, immersive attraction I'll be happy.

I guess it makes sense, since the resort will need a big new attraction to help push it, but man... remember back before 2007 when DW fans would complain that SDC got all the attention in the chain?

Dollywood has veered from the 1880s theme way more than SDC. In a way, It's becoming just themed areas without an overall unifying theme other than it just being Dollywood. SDC seems somewhat married to their 1880s past a bit more which in the end give it the better overall "authentic" feel and they certainly seem more concerned with keeping more of the original landscape and woodsy feel when building.

Yes, that is because they moved away from that theming when Dolly partnered up with them starting in the 1986 season. The overall theme is still "Appalachian Mountains", which they still do stick to, but its not a specific to a year or time frame like SDC does quite well.

Well, this is welcome news about the Rocking Roadway Hillside clearing. OFFICIALLY EXCITED!!!!!

This recent development goes in play with the confirmed closure of Cas Walker's for this year's upcoming season. Could it be making way for a future lift hill? Will the current Rockin Roadway be closed after the 2015 season (as previously speculated) and it's ride station repurposed for a new coaster station? Dollywood is known for repurposing old buildings/structures for new rides (i.e. Thunder Express' old station reused for TN Tornado's station and Adventure Mountain's former "fire watch towers" reused as pass throughs for Firechaser Express). If Rockin Roadway closes, it will most likely upset the non-coaster riding segment of DW's guests, namely families with small children. Will the future Jukebox Junction have enough room to bring a new major coaster in 2016 and perhaps a smaller attraction for kids to replace Rockin Roadway?

Obviously we won't know any details until Dollywood decides to release them to us. For Wild Eagle there was clearing and footer construction right up until the announcement at Labor Day in September, then vertical construction took off almost immediately after the announcement. Not sure if they'll follow a similar timeline or not.

I would expect them to use the RR station, but we will see what happens.

Personally, I think there will not be a lift hill. I think it will be a Mack Launcher like Helix, with two launches - BUT THATS JUST ME - that's what I want to see on that gigantic hillside. Dollywood said project 2016's budget would be in line with Wild Eagles, so that pretty much rules out a woody, which are usually around $10-12 million'ish. The new coaster should be in the $20-25 million range - all part of the 10-year/$300 million grand plan that started in 2014.

We're all just guessing and wondering too. We might have to wait 8 or 9 months to find out...ugh. Its up to DW to fill us in on the rest!

^^Wouldn't Cas Walker's make a perfect spot for an Exit Gift Shop/On-ride Photo store? It's gas station themed already, which fits nicely into the Thunder Road theme, if that pans out. They can easily make the exit walkway pass through Cas Walker's. Already there's two buildings (RR station & CW's) that don't have to be built, or spend cash on. Modifications cost a good bit less than building something from the ground up, usually. Just another thought.

This will be the perfect location for a new coaster as I know many people have complained that the major coasters were all in the back of the park. As far as losing a flat ride, Dollywood has always been good with keeping their attractions balanced out, so I'm sure it will not be too long before they put something in for families to replace RR.
