Anyone noticed the work going on behide TT I think it could be an expansion that would be themed to a town that had been hit by a tornado and it would have some type of frisbee ride and the section of the park would be called Tornado Alley

Daredevil falls has been rundown for a while IMO.. when something stops working, they just remove it.. I didn't notice the bear in the tent when I rode it Sunday? Has it been removed and if so how long?

The Bear affect isn't there this season. I'm pretty sure I remember it last season, but it hasn't had the sound effects in a number of years (you used to hear roars and screams).

Blazing Fury is also in a rather desolate state, it's gone down hill since the main water was removed from the drop. Now this season there isn't even a waterfall area which was probably the coolest part of the ride (right before the first drop). I understand that it was taking a toll on the interior of the building, but surely they could renovate it and use more resistant materials instead of just removing crucial elements from the ride. They've done a lot of track work (it actually has RMC track on the drops ).. but that's about all they've invested into making it better.

Speaking of junk piles.. around Lightning Rod's quad down, you can see where they've cut down trees and just left the cut up trunks lying there rather than recycling or disposing of them.. sure, it will decompose eventually, but it's just not nice to look at.

When I was there a week ago it still had the bear affect

I thought the waterfall was working on blazing fury Sunday, but I agree, it does need work. I mean I didn't notice it not working and my GF even made the comment that she loves the chlorine smell when we passed the falls

I don't find Dollywood run down overall in any way. I would consider it one of the best kept parks in the country. The buildings look fine to me.

I will say, some of the themed elements could use work. The speakers on Blazing Fury drive me crazy because it wouldn't be that hard to upgrade them and turn the volume up so you can actually hear what happens in the scenes. Instead it just takes you by sets at a very fast pace and you can't get a good look at things or hear much of anything at all.

I last rode it preview day, it was definitely not there. Perhaps they just had some work to do to it.

Not run down but could use some TLC in some areas. They are making the right steps to upgrade and renovate the parks.. one of the biggest things they planned for the off season was to get rid of a lot of the ugly AC units and "hide" them better.. This really helped the looks of the park a lot.. they also updated and upgraded a lot of the restrooms.. but still, there is a lot of work to be done and hopefully they continue to update things.. I hope they update more restaurants like front porch Cafe.. it's very nice but still retains the Dollywood charm and the "age" of the park.. Lillians could use some of that, and so can a few of the other restaurants.. imagine an updated aunt grannies with larger capacity but still the charm of aunt grannies!

I think the biggest complaint that the OP had on this subject was some of the rides and I do agree here.. again, if an element breaks down, it seems as if Dollywood is just removing it such as the bear scene on Daredevil Falls.. little things like that do a lot for rides..

But I agree, the speakers all over Dollywood Kill me.. like you said, new speakers that are clearer and louder on blazing fury would go a long way.. the speakers in the sawmill on Daredevil Falls sounded blown on Sunday.

In speaking of speakers (haha), does anyone know when the last time Lightning Rod had the engine-revving sound effects working during the station pullout? I don't recall hearing them since last November (though they only worked during select times). I know that when the coaster opened they had the sound effects working almost every time. Back during opening weekend this season, I never heard them once.

Not that its a big deal, it just added a nice little touch to the theming in my opinion.

OH and I think someone mentioned back about things in pockets on LR and then the coaster was down for some time Monday? Well there's a video on YouTube of a man who stupidly put his phone in his front pocket, left the phone on record and once the train hit that pre drop out the phone went and you can see it fly over the rows of riders and it lands and slams a kid then rides down the drop with him where it looks to either tumble down the track in pieces OR bounce off. Either way it lands directly beside the drop and you can even watch another train absolutely fly by.

What's the name of the video you speak of?

Ditto.

I searched a dozen different ways on YouTube and Google and found nothing.

Booked a trip in July to Dollywood. Only thing I really want to make sure I do is Lightning Rod. Any locals have input on how reliable it has been lately? I knows its already been open longer than last year but I just want to see what the current status is and if I should expect to make another trip later!

Just go to YouTube and type in "phone flys off roller coaster at Dollywood". It will be the first one. I found it by just trying to find newly added Dollywood videos.

What was that someone mentioned about work being done behind TT? Was this actual dozer work or just trucks traveling? Because they have trucks that drive up and around back there.

Not really dozers but a lot of backhoe activitie it may just be maintenance doing something back there it just looks like to me that that's the area big enough for the path they would need to build to go to the train loop without losing a main maintenance road

That's the only one I found when I searched.. and this is exactly why everyone should listen when they say no loose articles on the ride lol.. I'm out of style (according to my GF who works at Old Navy) and still wear cargo shorts with button pockets.. my phone gets locked in there! Funny thing is, whenever I wear my straight leg shorts she's like "hold my phone, hold my wallet" and I say, according to you cargo is out of style so I didn't wear them. Can't hold it. She gets so mad haha

Thank you Lightning Rod. Any ride that forcibly removes a phone from someone who shoots video like that is bound to move up a little in my rankings.

For sure. A real douche. Not a lot on YouTube, but he chooses to post one of the dumbest things he's done. Posted as if he's proud of it of something (added slow motion effects)

And how'd he get the phone back at all? I didn't think they'd retrieve lost articles, especially something that was so flagrant a violation.

I mentioned putting stuff in zipped pockets. I won't even ride wearing sunglasses cause 1) they might hurt someone, and 2) I don't want to loose them ($100+ to replace, but less than most phones). I'll even drop them down my shirt if I forget in the station.

Certainly a pro. Does he not know how to stop the recording instead of just flashing to random locations while standing? Or hold the device straight?

He does claim he won't put a phone in a pocket on a ride again.

"I had kept my phone in my pocket many times on many rides. But I never will again."

Not sure I believe that though. Old habits...

And either he got a lot of nasty comments he deleted or he knew they were coming as comments are disabled on that video (but not his other 2 on YouTube)

Actually I was at Dollywood once and they closed wild eagle while looking for a guys wallet haha so they do retrieve some stuff.. I know SFOG retrieves stuff like this after the park closes and makes you come back the next day for it.. I bet Dollywood does something similar. I was actually at SFOG for a late night concert one time that ended after park hours.. ops walked under the coasters with lights for about an hour looking for stuff.. I was surprised..

Not surprised they check/clear the area, though wouldn't expect it to be daily.

Although letting stuff build up in some areas might serve as a good warning and get a few more to pay attention.

I can see a few things being returned, but most of it should be trashed, as punishment.

It doesn't surprise me that SFOG does it after the Batman Darwinism incident.

Lightning Rod is one coaster that teaches a lesson on things in your pockets. Dodging flying quarters from a woman's pockets isn't fun. At first I thought it was bolts from under the train because it was on the wave turn and I just seen silver things flying towards me haha. They warned people all day of the woman who got hit in the face with the cellphone, they should keep doing that because once they done that all riders emptied phones at once.
