I personally think they pretty much feel like you're sitting down only higher. coasters 4 me Posted March 24, 2005 Share Posted March 24, 2005 its like games. When they come out, they are really popular, then the popularity goes down, until no-one really likes it anymore. Also i agree that the Floorless is the new Stand Up! Floorless coasters are brilliant. Also, i think the reason that they dont build Vekoma Flyers is that B&M have made there version and they are more smooth and popular. Posted March 24, 2005 Share Posted March 24, 2005 Based simply on being a gimmicky ride with a somewhat uncomfortable ride and not having longterm appeal with the GP, I actually think Flyers are the new standup. I like it much more then other coasters in the park...((hypersonic.....)) Also... Whats so great about Floorless... If your not in the front seat its not a big deal... and even when in the front seat its not like you look down to see the track! And Vekoma flyers are so much better then the crappy B&M ones... Haveing been on all 3 Vekomas... and then 1 B&M and 1 Zamp flyer.. all 3 Vekomas were better... But I only ride them in the front row and I think it makes all the difference in the world. I enjoy flying coasters, but they haven't had enough done with them yet. I want something more intense and elaborate. I've been on a Vekoma and two Beemers and was definately more impressed with the Beemers. The restraints are much better, the ride is smoother, and I just thought the overall experience was better. King Cobra is my all time favorite coaster, it gave supurb air time and had strong forces through out the entire ride. With my favorite coaster being a stand up I thought I would love Chang but I absolutely hate it, it is so uncomfortable for taller guests because it feels like it is going to rip you knees apart. I think that B&M killed the Stand Up because they make such heavy rides the forces are too much to make it enjoyable. I also think that the stand up is limited by the human body, the forces are so much harder to make rideable with a stand up. I would love to see a more comfortable train for a stand up and shorter heights for them. Intamin could build an excellent stand up train since they use the two seat principal like Togo did and Intamin is excellent at heartlining their coasters. Every year before they took it out, there was always the rumor it was getting taken down, so we always rode it like 100 times the last week the park opened. "Let's STAND in line for an hour so we can STAND on the ride." Just really doesn't make much sense to me. Though the strangest ever was when at SFOG, a girl in a wheelchair waited thru the queue and then attempted to try to stand on Georgia Scorcher, even though she had absolutely no use of her legs. When the person came back the person could not even walk, she was in pain. She had to have her dad lift her up put her on the wheel chair. shepp Posted April 1, 2006 Share Posted April 1, 2006 Ever since my first ride on PGA's Vortex, I've liked stand-ups, both for the increased feeling of vulnerability standing gives me and for the unusual forces created by a higher center of gravity. I found Mantis to be something of a banger, but RR, with its swoops and loops, is pure pleasure. But yeah, the load times are awful - there's always somebody who needs his restraint released and readjusted - and there's also a problem selling the concept: "flying coaster" sounds so much better than "standing coaster."
