Neogreeneyez
Why does it seem like no one is building Stand up coasters anymore? When i was a "young chap" I thought king cobra was the issue. But I can only count a few that are still in existence. It seems that they just don't build them anymore. Anyone know why? NeO
Angry_Gumball
They're probably "Out of style" as they're trying out new ideas. You don't see anymore Vekoma flyers being built either.
robbalvey
Overall, it never seems as thought Stand Ups were very popular with the GP. They are fairly gimmicky, lower capacity, slightly uncomfortable, and never seem to be the 'favorite' of any park they are at. --Robb
Scaparri
My theory is that there just isn't really anything that special about them anymore. I personally think they pretty much feel like you're sitting down only higher. Nevertheless, with more unique coasters on the market such as flying, floorless, and inverted, the demand just isn't there anymore.
Sir Clinksalot
I just think that floorless is the new standup ...

Angry_Gumball
Think of the standup as a trend...they're popular for a short amount of time and then things change.
coasters 4 me
its like games. When they come out, they are really popular, then the popularity goes down, until no-one really likes it anymore. Also i agree that the Floorless is the new Stand Up! Floorless coasters are brilliant. Also, i think the reason that they dont build Vekoma Flyers is that B&M have made there version and they are more smooth and popular. Do you think intamin will come out with a Flyer or new "Breed" of coaster?
CoasterCrazy
Like Gregg said, I also think of floorless coasters as the new standup coaster.
Homey G.
Based simply on being a gimmicky ride with a somewhat uncomfortable ride and not having longterm appeal with the GP, I actually think Flyers are the new standup. Floorless are the new sitdown loopers, IMO. Brian, not even able to picture a custom Flyer I'd have a desire to come back out to SFMM for.
Canobie Fan
I would take a B&M stand-Up over a floorless... I love and still love Stand Up Coasters... Even Shockwave at PKD is a great ride.. I like it much more then other coasters in the park...((hypersonic.....)) Also... Whats so great about Floorless... If your not in the front seat its not a big deal... and even when in the front seat its not like you look down to see the track! And Vekoma flyers are so much better then the crappy B&M ones... Haveing been on all 3 Vekomas... and then 1 B&M and 1 Zamp flyer.. all 3 Vekomas were better... Batwings Helix is far better then anyhing SUF can pull... and Borgs theme and going over the water... also better then SUF and Volare...
Scaparri
^I personally love floorless'. However I agree with you that unless you're in the front row, it doesn't really matter. But I only ride them in the front row and I think it makes all the difference in the world. I enjoy flying coasters, but they haven't had enough done with them yet. I want something more intense and elaborate. I've been on a Vekoma and two Beemers and was definately more impressed with the Beemers. The restraints are much better, the ride is smoother, and I just thought the overall experience was better. There were some aspects I definately liked about the Vekomas, but still didn't match up to B&M. Anyway, I'm gettin' a bit off topic.
Stitch
I think that the lack of other companies building Stand Up coasters is what killed them. King Cobra is my all time favorite coaster, it gave supurb air time and had strong forces through out the entire ride. With my favorite coaster being a stand up I thought I would love Chang but I absolutely hate it, it is so uncomfortable for taller guests because it feels like it is going to rip you knees apart. I think that B&M killed the Stand Up because they make such heavy rides the forces are too much to make it enjoyable. I also think that the stand up is limited by the human body, the forces are so much harder to make rideable with a stand up. I would love to see a more comfortable train for a stand up and shorter heights for them. Intamin could build an excellent stand up train since they use the two seat principal like Togo did and Intamin is excellent at heartlining their coasters. I am no psysicist or coaster designer but I do know what is comfortable and fun
Mind Eraser
I think some people were disappointed with the B&M floorless coasters because they expected a revolutionary new ride, when in fact, the floorless trains were simply a new approach to the sit-down looping coaster. -kip-
martinb
I just didn't really get Stand up's, didn't feel like a "real" coaster experience, although I think a Stand Up Inverter would be interesting

I agree, that B&M's Superman: Ultimate Flight(s) are kinda boring and at times force-less imo. Stand-Ups have become unpopular and out-numbered by the growing demand or Inverted, Floorless, Mega, or Flyers. Even Sit-down looper have become slightly unfavorable. BUT, I do however think that Stand-ups are insanely fun. I love the way it makes your stomach feel going through inversions. I think Mantis at CP is one of the best B&M Coasters around imo....it would be in my top 10 choice.
edboxer
In a word - OUCH! I have yet to ride a stand-up that didn't cause a jolt of pain below the belt somewhere in the ride.
jamesdillaman
all I can say about standups is I loved King Cobra @ PKI. Every year before they took it out, there was always the rumor it was getting taken down, so we always rode it like 100 times the last week the park opened. I liked it better than any B&M standup I've been on, (granted I've only been on 3).
DerekRx
I don't really care for stand-ups because they take the longest time to load, and are really pointless. "Let's STAND in line for an hour so we can STAND on the ride." Just really doesn't make much sense to me. Though the strangest ever was when at SFOG, a girl in a wheelchair waited thru the queue and then attempted to try to stand on Georgia Scorcher, even though she had absolutely no use of her legs. We were baffled, and even better, the ops were baffled. It was quite an odd site.
benzo41190
That happend on Iron Wolf at SFGAm. A person got off the wheel chair, with a leg cast, then got on the ride. When the person came back the person could not even walk, she was in pain. She had to have her dad lift her up put her on the wheel chair. And with it beign Iron Wolf, she probaly re-broke her leg ......not funny
Worm
I must say stand-ups look painful. And i've heard some people say there is some headbanging as well
arrowfanman
I normally dont care for standups, but there is that one--The Riddler's Revenge. ...My God that must be the best damn ride in the world! And a sexy crew, no doubt! -Jahan "up on three!" Makanvand ...."I mean, down on three!"
HCOSurfer90
I have a question and yes it does have to do with stand-ups. Is Mantis really that rough? I'm going to Cedar Point this summer and it looks like a fun ride. Can someone tell me if it's worth the wait?
shepp
Ever since my first ride on PGA's Vortex, I've liked stand-ups, both for the increased feeling of vulnerability standing gives me and for the unusual forces created by a higher center of gravity. I found Mantis to be something of a banger, but RR, with its swoops and loops, is pure pleasure. But yeah, the load times are awful - there's always somebody who needs his restraint released and readjusted - and there's also a problem selling the concept: "flying coaster" sounds so much better than "standing coaster." timetrial3141592
This is the problem. Riddler's (easily the best ride at SFMM) is the only quality B+M Standup.
