Stitch Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 What rides do you feel have been reduced to bad rides because of the park's managment. I personally feel like PKI took The Beast and made it into the puppy. It used to be such an excellent ride, now it is full of trim brakes, slowed to a crawl in the mid course break run and it's trains really need some new padding because it beats you up something awfull. I am sure there are other rides that have been as I like to say, "Neutuered" and I want to know which ones everyone feels have been.
Token Yankee Guy Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 No doubt about it, Cyclone at SFNE has been neutuered, like three times, it's like a completely opposite sex now. First off, when the park got flagged, the park decided to put on PTC trains. Then in 2001 they raised the first drop and didn't paint it and added a second trim brake. Now when you ride it, you yourself will get neutuered.
Stitch Posted March 24, 2005 Author Posted March 24, 2005 I live on the East coast so I don't know those coasters personally, care to explain what has been done to them ^
ScottBrown Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Colossus the trains the removal of the doouble down and the slowing of the lift all IMHO have nuetered a once good ride. Also at the same park both Viper and Revoulition have been getting trimmed more and more each time I have gone
Sir Clinksalot Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 ^ Good call on Colossus and Revolution. Viper on the other hand is debatable if it was ever good ... Stitch ... Ghostrider was insanely fast, and insanely smooth for a woody, and has not been maintained ... same with Psyclone. Colossus has not been maintained. Revolution added OTSR's on trains that were not designed to have OTSR's, therefore making the trains heavier, and therefore causing them to add trims to slow the ride down. Viper is an Arrow ... nuff said.
CoasterEricHP Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Comet at Hersheypark.. I'm not even sure if I was alive when they didnt have the second half ruining trim there.. but that would've been LOADED with air if not for the stupid trim. SooperDooperLooper also has no second half thanks to the brake'age. Steel Force.. stupid midcourse. Eric
Angry_Gumball Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Well, I'd go with V2 "Not So" Vertical Velocity @ SFMW. It's been dramatically neutered but it's actually better than it's original form being as everyone goes through the twist. The original V2 loses points due to not everyone experiencing the twist. As far as badly neutered coasters, I'd have to say Psyclone...Did it used to run better and faster? I've only ridden it twice in 1 visit and that's all I'll do.
ScottBrown Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I enjoyed Viper in it's early years and always enjoyed it for the most part
Canobie Fan Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Riverside Cyclone at SFNE.......... I still love the ride.. But it use to be a ture "WorldClass" coaster.. now its just a bumppyblob with a kickass back seat first drop.....
ChrisFL Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Busch Gardens Tampa: Bumper Cars They used to be fun, now waiting in line for Kumba is more thrilling
SharkTums Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Montu...it's the best of the neutered coasters...but it's still a shadow of its former self. Elissa "and of course all the coasters that Six Flags as screwed up the restraints on" Alvey
alpengeistdude321 Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Revolution, the OTSRs and the trims kill the ride. Montu is just trimmed to death.
Sir Clinksalot Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 As far as badly neutered coasters, I'd have to say Psyclone...Did it used to run better and faster? I've only ridden it twice in 1 visit and that's all I'll do. Yes - Pre Northridge Earthquake Psyclone was actually my favorite ride in the park. Revolution was my 2nd favorite back then. My how times have changed.
Angry_Gumball Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 and you'd think it would run smooth with those B&M trains... One more coaster to add to neuter list: Thriller/Texas Tornado/Zonga...I wish I could have tried it out in it's original form with only lapbars.
Sir Clinksalot Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 and you'd think it would run smooth with those B&M trains... Those trains actually add to the problem. They are so frickin' heavy, too heavy. They have ruined both of SFMM's woodies ...
CoasterFanatic Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Comet (Hershey) - Added Brakes Revolution (SFMM) - Added OTSR Beast (PKI) - When a ride is 10 seconds longer than it used to be. Somethings a miss. Mighty Canadian Minebuster (PCW) - Completely hacked to make way for new waterpark Racer (PKI) - Used to be an air-laced machine. Now it bounces over every hill. Bluestreak (CP) - Same thing as Racer Big Bad Wolf - Nothing like hitting the brake run halfway down the largest drop. Soon to be neutered J2 aka Tsunami (Clementon)
Scaparri Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 The Beast would definately be my top pick. That ride used to be mindblowing. Now it's just boring and painful. Boss is another. That ride was one of the best coasters I've ever experienced opening year. It's since been ruined by trim brakes.
Stitch Posted March 24, 2005 Author Posted March 24, 2005 I know there are a lot of Neutured rides but here are two rides I think got their glory given back to them by modifactions. The first being the Premire rides that recieved the lap bars, I never got a chance to ride Flight Of Fear with it's over the shoulder restraints but from the pictures I have seen of them I am sure glad I didn't. The second ride is Phantom's Revenge, I have not ridden this coaster so I can't speak from expeirence but I can say that it looks a lot better. Just look at these before and after pictures of it's drop and see what I am talking about . Before http://www.rcdb.com/ig123.htm?picture=6 After http://www.rcdb.com/ig123.htm?picture=3
CoasterFanatic Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 ^ Phantom's Revenge is 10x better since the Morgan modifications. Anyone that had Steel Phantom in their top 10 was a closet masochist.
Coasterkid20 Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Am I the only person who thinks that for being 7 years old, running a heavier train than most woodies (hello it has a full extra car), and running year round GhostRider is still a GREAT ride. I think ya'll are spoiled, seriously you can take a 2 hour trip to Knott's any day you want. I only go once a year and think Knott's is a great park. I just don't see why everyone is bitching about it so bad . Granted the first time I rode GhostRider was in 2002, but even if it is "running bad" it is still better than most.
coaster1 Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I thought GhostRider was running pretty damn well at Solace .. but it sucked in August 2004 .. However, The Rattler is one for nuetered .. that ride was completly nuts before they chopped it all up and replaced the trains. Others: Gwazi Colossus Montu Beast Revolution and more I can't think of right now
What Now Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Hell, I first rode Ghostrider in 1999 and still love it. I happy as long as they don't add trim brakes. I don't know if anybody has mentioned Thunderhawk yet. It would be amazing if it weren't for the trim brakes and the seat belts. Same for HP's Comet. Perilous Plunge, not a coaster, but that ride is not the same ever since it got those 4-point harnesses. That drop was scary before the harnesses were installed.
FlyingScooter Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Mean Streak. any coaster w/trim brakes on the first hill is born w/a handicap, that being: Engineerisoopissymplex..(engineeris-oopsis-symplex: Latin: to be highly educated and have no common sense....
Mind Eraser Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 It's not the engineers who have the problem. These parks wants big, mean, aggressive coasters. The manufacturers deliver what what the parks want, and then the parks can't run the coasters how they were designed because USA is such a litigious society. Look at Fiesta Texas, they kept going back to John Pierce and saying "We want it taller...faster...steeper..." etc. John Pierce designed the amazing Rattler just how Fiesta Texas asked for it. Then they open it and it's too intense for the average rider. -kip-
