P. 134: "El Diablo Neo" mixed reality experience announced!

Out of interest, has the opening date for Ferrari Land at PortAventura been pushed back to 2017 now? I've seen articles suggesting it'll be ready in time for next year and others suggesting it has been pushed back to 2017, can anyone help?

I am still really unsure if I like the idea of PortAventura going ahead with this idea but I'll reserve full judgement up to the point of visiting and experiencing Ferrari Land.

By the way, is the announced acceleration for the intamin of 0-180 km/h in 5s accurate? Because that doesn't sound too impressive and would mean furius baco would have a slightly more forceful launch.

Posted

^ a less forceful launch but the train will probably be much lighter meaning it can carry is speed better and I think the top hat will be the biggest element/most thrilling of the ride.

The opening isn't really known right now, it's rumoured for either the end of 2016 or the start of 2017.

As for the launch, the acceleration is around the same rate has the Intamin LSM coasters, though I'm not sure if LSM's are able to launch that fast. Could it be that they are going to use LSM's instead of a cable launch?

These things run on a power arc. As the train accelerates, it covers more ground and requires increasingly more power to pull it forwards. Probably it'll have about the same strength of launch with the remaining 1.5 seconds spent still accelerating, though at a slower rate than compared to when it was at a stand still.

Well, it is possible but hasn't been done before. Maybe it would use way too much power?

Wicked pulls 900kw from the Flywheel Inverter in 2 Phases.....how much power does the Intamin LSM Launch Coasters pull?

^Don't know. But considering the bigger trains and the speed it would be a lot.

Perhaps (assuming it's hydraulically launched) they think that reducing the launch power will increase reliability? Just a thought (this all seems a bit odd)

What if Universal Studios returns to PortAventura in Europe? I have been doing some sketchs of some of the changes it could happen.

Here you have the logos.

Universal Mediterranea Resort would be the name of the resort.

Universal's Port Aventura would be the current Port Aventura with a big shot of Universal's Islands of Adventure power

Universal Studios Barcelona would contain Ancient Egypt, Springfield, Terminator, Shrek casttle, Hill Valley or Diagon Alley.

Universal's Ferrari land is the new park that PortAventura is building. It would of course be part of Universal on this project.

and

Costa Caribe Aquatic Park could be converted into Volcano Bay Aquatic Park. There would be some new waterslides on this park. You will see.

Dragon Khan in PortAventura could be converted into the Incredible Hulk Coaster featuring a lunch and a new first inversion. This would make the coaster to pass from 8 to 9 inversions. It would be amazing.

Now, it is a pity that the Incredible Hulk coaster is not in Europe but we do have Dragon Khan (and in the background Shambhala)

Tutuki Splash could be converted into Jurassic Park River Adventure.

Let's see how it actually looks like right now. It is not Jurassic Park the ride or River Adventure. Unfortunately. It is Tutuki Splash in Polynesia area, Port Aventura

The nowadays entrance of the Polynesia area would be the entrance of Jurassic Park.

Nowadays it is the entrance of Polynesia in PortAventura and it looks like this. Beautiful but not as impressive as if it were the Jurassic Park gate entrance!!!

UPDATE: 24/Jul/2015

What if the incredibly funny ride of Popeye & Bluto's land in Europe? Well, if it would land into the nowadays Grand Canyon Rapids in PortAventura Park, it would be something like this.

Nowadays, Grand Canyon Rapids looks like this. It's beautiful but a little bit boring and you don't get as soak as in Popeye's. In fact, sometimes you don't even get wet.

What about the star of the park? Harry Potter HOGSMEADE in Europe! It would save too much money to the Europeans that need to visit Orlando to live this part of the park. This is how Hogsmeade would fit in PortAventura Park, on the Far West area, next to México. You can see 2 current rides: the free fall Hurakan Condor on the top right and well, it would not be a current ride. It would be a new hybrid coaster based on the dueling coaster: Stampida...obviously renamed as Dragon Challenge

Are you prepared? I have been working many many hours on this. I hope you enjoy.

Great sketches and ideas. I would have loved Universal to have stayed with PA and built out a real destination resort with IP based attractions amongst the original ideas, and of course by now they could have implemented Harry Potter too. I truly think it could have been a resort giving DLP a run for it's money in Europe.

Thank you Ben!

I also think they could have implemented Harry Potter as well. In fact, I will work on a sketch of Harry Potter for the project of Universal's Port Aventura Park. My idea would be to use nowadays Stampida and convert it into an hybrid coaster that could be the corresponding Dragon Challenge in Islands of Adventure. Hogsmeade could be built in the nowadays extreme of Far West and colonial Mexico of PortAventura. I will keep updating this with new sketches so you will see.

It is possible but the problem with LSM launches is that they are very intense in the beginning but fade away toward the end. It would need a rather long launch track, and in these kind of speeds it would take several seconds longer than the hydraulic one. I also suspect the energy recovery system would be rather complex. Also the advantage with the hydraulic launch is that you can put a rather long train on it without increasing the power consumption noticeably even if you are talking about a 160mph launch.

Hi all,

I hope you enjoy the last update of the Universal Studios project in Europe, more specifically in PortAventura.

Don't miss the Hogsmeade sketch!!!!!

Finally something. I wonder if this is still supposed to open next year (even if it is late)

I'm tentatively going to Barcelona, and naturally making the trip to Port Aventura, in spring 2017 for a Mediterranean cruise. It would sure be a nice bonus if FerrariLand was open by then!

How the hell do they plan on building an entire theme park in a year?

Even though they might sell it as a new gate, it really is a separate themed land. Besides the coaster, the rest of the structures should go up pretty quickly. And they have a bit more than a year to build Ferrari Land since it's been scheduled to open at the beginning of 2017
