King_K. Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Universal WAS a mad house. I had to eventually shell out $51+tax for a 2 park express. All the waits were 60+, amazingly JAWS had the longest wait at 80 for most of the day. Only track missing on Rockit right now is just the lift. Not the heartline lift or any other MODIFIED lift either. Just the regular lift that was illustrated in the concept, website and MILLIONS of ads. [[ Oh, and by the way. The problem doesn't seem to be the lift or the track for the lift or the clearance, it seems to be the motors for the lift and the complicated "backwards" evacuation procedure. Motors need to be installed first before the track for the lift apparently. ]]
Mr. Volcano Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 [[ Oh, and by the way. I find it hard to see them evacuating ANY kind of coaster let alone one with a vertical lift. I have thought before about how crazy it would be to have to be evacuated from something like SheiKra or Millennium Force... ouch. -Justin
robbalvey Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 So far a lot of what they are doing is matching the concept art. You can see the arch under the bird's wing:
King_K. Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Yeah they're really following that concept art as much as possible. Especially with J.K. Rowling breathing down their necks.
King_K. Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Yeah, I pretty much figured that they were going to have problems with the Evac. plan and the lift. Didn't think it'd stall the construction for so long though.
justint87 Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 ^ Pretty cool pictures especially the sunsets ones. They are matching up with the concepts very well, even the color of the sunset in the concept art matches the one you took!
alpengeist04 Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Yeah they're really following that concept art as much as possible. Especially with J.K. Rowling breathing down their necks. Which I think is a good thing, making the new island that much better in the end.
traincrossin Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 It's not like Rockit is the first ride with a vertical lift. Why didn't they learn a little from Fahrenheit or the numerous Eurofighters?
DATman Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 ^Or that pretty much every coaster of this type has had a vertical/strange lift.
pyrocoasterkid Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 So I'm sure this has been answered, but what exactly went wrong with the section through the building?
UberBeavis Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 This thread is definitive proof that not everybody has a functioning sarcasm and/or wit detector.
rawrtotheargh Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 This thread is definitive proof that not everybody has a functioning sarcasm and/or wit detector. Quite clearly. Sadness.
rawrtotheargh Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 So I'm sure this has been answered, but what exactly went wrong with the section through the building? To my understanding it didn't clear the reach envelope.
Hand 0f Time Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Excellent photos. Cannot wait for the completion of the ride. It'll be like the sun and moon to me.
King_K. Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 So I'm sure this has been answered, but what exactly went wrong with the section through the building? To my understanding it didn't clear the reach envelope. You are correct. They were moving most of the gear to the firehouse on Friday, so I'm guessing they're working on that too, before putting in the lift.
King_K. Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Yep, the good thing is that Universal had all the money for Potter and Rockit set apart before the Economy went into the crapper. So no need for cutbacks either.

bts520 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 My family is going to Universal from April 19th to the 24th does anyone think the HWRRR will be up and running or not? Are they having problems with it? Thanks
coolcalicoaster Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 ^lol your kidding right? Read the last 10 pages of this thread and you should get your answer.
bts520 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Or you could just help me out and answer the question?
cfc Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 ^lol your kidding right? Read the last 10 pages of this thread and you should get your answer. Just a reminder from your friendly neighborhood site moderator--please 1) be respectful of others and 2) remember that having a sense of humor is essential. ^The answer to your question is no.
bts520 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 So did they have a problem! I was hoping maybe they would have some soft run or something! But that is out of the question??
Swimace Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 ^Yeah, the track isn't complete at this point, so they still need to finish construction before they can even do a pull-through or start testing. Work has sort of stalled on the lift hill, there has been speculation about the extent of the delays but nothing has been confirmed by Universal so nobody really knows for sure when this thing is going to get finished. Look for maybe a June opening, although that's just a guess.
