FlyingScooter Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 It ran last night on NGC at 8 and 11 E. Kingda Ka: Quest for a working coaster. (made up title there) It was a good show. I was surprised they had to change the cable while testing it. i give a ton of credit to the Iron workers on that construction. That is one job i could not do. I was surprised to hear that it takes a year to make an accumulator for that ride. A year is a long time to make something these days. What were your thoughts after watching it?
M_Force_4_ever Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 it was very interesting, especially the pull through...I thought they were going to have to chenge the top hat when they realized that an rider's extended arm would hit the handrail...but it turned out that there measure was 2 inches longer then average...yeah that cable part was interesting, and I was suprised that they lifted those tanks all at once, I wouldnt do that to a part that takes a year to make
CoasterJunkie Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I missed it... Luckily its on again on Oct 30 at 4pm...DVR is set for it as I will be a IOA/Halloween Horror Nights.
ZipityDoDog Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 It was funny however that when they were giving the all stats for S:TE they were showing S:UF, it was kinda misleading, but good info.
Bob O Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I also found the show to be very interesting and informative. And you have to give kudo's to the people working on the coaster who dealt with some awful weather!
calcajun Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I enjoyed it thoroughly except for the part with description of superman the escape and seeing SUF.
djzack67 Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Very nice show, but, seemed to be strecthed out on information. The kept rehashing a lot of the same footage and information. But, i will say it was still a good program
Jeezus Juice Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 What I thought was interesting was the preliminary sketches for the ride showing two camelbacks and even one with a loop! IMO they totally should've gone with the loop. I mean they might as well since they put OTSR on it anyway. BTW I have one pictures of the train parked at the base of the tophat with the black shroud. This security guy by the safari was trying to yell at me for taking pictures from my car! What a douche. -Don
coasterguy618 Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I saw that. I really liked it. In fact i recorded it. But I never knew really why KK was closed for such a long time in the summer. By watching that i found out! BTW, they have another new coaster show on at 7:00 eastern time on the NGEO channel. It is called Thrill Rides. --Gaven
trustkill22 Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Its good that a new coaster show has come out FINALLY because im getting sick of seeing the old 1998 shows thats say SFMM holds the record for most coasters with 13 or something like that but ya sorry for my freaking out. So I was wondering what was the exact name of the show? I know its at the top but I wasnt sure what he meant by "made up title there". Thanks XtrustyX
Imhotep Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 awesome, got to set the DVR. Do they show anything like track fabrication? I would love to see a special where they show exactly whats involved in steel track fabrication, like translating the computer model to the actual track peices, welding them up, etc.
disneygurlz2s Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 I loved the part where the narrator was saying "In August 2004...." and all the construction workers were dressed like "Nanook of the north". I turned to Herb (laughing) and said "Jeez...it must be cold in New Jersey in AUGUST!!" I thought it was pretty interesting, and played up very dramatic. Shari "But that ride's too damn fast for me" Shoufler
DATman Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 twas LAUGHABLE it was played out as being so dramatic and suspenseful, and really not that interesting. The ONLY new thing I learned was that they almost got it with a weird double camelback, that would've provided 10 times as much air. That made me sad.
coasterlover420 Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 ^^^Not on this show. sorry but, discovery did do a show on the fabrication of Steel Dragon 2000. It wasn't as good as it could be, but it gives a few details. I thought that it was way too dramatic when they started testing the ride. The ride is supposed to roll back quite a few times until the hydraulic system is ready to heave the train over the tophat. Way too dramatic, IMO
ahecht Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 "If the train doesn't make it over this time, the ride will be a complete failure, forcing Six Flags to demolish it, which could possible cause the entire site to turn into a sinkhole, opening up a time portal to the year 1200 and allowing Ghengis Kahn to take over the modern world"
