kenshinmac Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 Noooo.... I have wanted to try the Cyclone ever since I saw pics of it on this site...
robbalvey Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 I had heard about this over the weekend. I have to say it doesn't come as a surprise. Anyone who has been to the park in the past 10 years could see this place was running on it's last legs. Bummer. --Robb "I still think the Cyclone is one of the 'funniest' coasters ever." Alvey
disneygurlz2s Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 Is that the park R&E went to where all the rides are out in like a little field? Shari "or am I confusing to with one of the other 999,999 parks they have been to?" Shoufler
kenshinmac Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 So Robb did you have a POV of this on any of the DVD sets... I think I might be picking that one up just to have some sort of sample of the thing... If only X-mas season wasn't coming I would probably order a few of your dvd sets... nm... Just looked it is on the 2004... That is one I have been meaning to order anyway... Yeah so I corrected myself before I even posted... I do that all the time...
Jonathan Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 Noooooooooooooo That place was one of my favorite parks ever. No joke. Stopped by there with coasterdave and jamminj on the way to meetup with the RideWorld folks before last year's East Coast Trek. We planned to be in and out in an hour; get the credits and leave. We ended up staying until the park closed, and missed the cookout that night because we were having such a blast at the park! I can understand why they are losing money, though. The place was totally dead, and the operators for the Cyclone and the Wildcat kept letting us ride without paying!
YoshiFan Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 That sucks, it looked like it was a fun park. I had hoped to get there next year. I at least hope the Wildcat stays in the area (it would be great at an amusement pier in Ocean City, NJ).
Meteornotes Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 Well, it was a family owned place, and I guess the rest of the family has no interest in running the park. I have not heard, but I think the race track is going to stay in operation. This was a park I visited a lot as a kid since I grew up in the area, and it's unique and bizarre charm will be missed... dt
shesaidboom Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 Now I'm even more upset that the only day I was ever there it was raining and they couldn't run the rides. I was sitting in Cyclone's front car, but they couldn't run it. The ride op told my boyfriend and I that as long as the rain was light and we found 2 other people to ride [there needed to be at least 4 people on the train] he'd run it for us, but by the time we found 2 others, it was raining too hard
Hercules Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 I have known about this for the last month and a half or so. It is really sad. It really makes me mad too because on the day of the Coaster Zombies event there this September I got a flat tire the night before and wasn't able to make it. Really made me mad
momo1tx Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 I almost went there twice this summer. Missed out both times though... And I was making plans to go next year... wish they had some sort of closing event though...
FlyingScooter Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 I hate hearing about parks closing. yet another park I'll never get to.
larrygator Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 glad i finally got my Cyclone credit over Labor Day weekend. I had a similar experience to "shesaidboom" is 2004. I hope the Twister ends up in a good place with caring ride ops (cough, Knoebels, cough) because it is an insane ride when run properly and all out.
Canobie Fan Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 So Robb did you have a POV I have a POV from the front seat of Cyclone on my site. www.CanobieFan.com just click videos on the bar then go to POVs. Canobie "Mmmmm cyclone" Fan
MagnumForce Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 Knew I should have went when I had the chance.
USRoadTripper Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 No. This is not acceptable. It needs to last one more season so I can visit! What else will I do in the same day as Dutch Wonderland next August??? -Julie (I don't want anyone replying saying "Dorney!")
CreativeForce Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 It's a sad day when ever any park closes. Although with Cyclone, it feels like you're taking your life in your hands! I'm glad I got my credits last year. (Except for the kiddie, it was in pieces when we were there.)
Hercules Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 No. This is not acceptable. It needs to last one more season so I can visit! What else will I do in the same day as Dutch Wonderland next August??? -Julie (I don't want anyone replying saying "Dorney!") Herhsey is the obvious answer to that. What is wrong with Dorney though? I'm not one to be sad about not getting credits, I'm just sad that I wasn't able to experience what the park was about, not to mention see what Cyclone was all about.
pianojohn Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 I have POV footage from 1998 but I am currently in Virginia through Dec 24th. The coaster was pretty fun but always felt like it could fall over at any moment.
WalrusMan Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 I don't think I've seen a definite answer anywhere along here....does this mean Cyclone is closing? This has always been one of the most intriguing coasters to me. I mean...double decker track? Who'd ever think of that? Always wanted to ride it, hope I have the chance to still.... And CanobieFan I tried to get your video and it came up with a lot of text...don't know what that means....
