milford
And "Travel Day" begins with a cool foggy morning. I'll be missing the fog by Saturday afternoon! Will be settled in the hotel by early evening. Any TPR-ers interested in getting together for a pre-SFMM drink and dinner? Respond to this thread so we can get a head count. If there's a different gathering going on let me know so we can coordinate if desired.  Looking at Happy Hour and Dinner tonight (Friday) at:  Azul Tequila 25387 Wayne Mills Pl Valencia, CA 91355  Around 6:00 PM ... Look around the bar for an Asian guy wearing either a TPR T-Shirt or TPR Badge Holder   Sitting at bar having a huge beer. Will be ordering dinner soon . Jello_Biafra
Hello! This was my first event [did SFMM], and it was amazing! Met so many people, and everyone was very nice. Met Sarah, who tools some excellent pics of me under Goliath backstage. Met two awesome dudes, Matlon and "the Doctor." We were suppose to exchange info but misplaces each other when the park closed. Will post more of a review, but it's almost 1am and need sleep.

singemfrc
SFMM day was such a blast. Ill have to do a full TR later but in short thank you so much to Robb and everyone involved for all their hard work putting this together. TC including backstage tour was amazing, ERT was amazing, everything was amazing. Got so many rides on TC yesterday got a double shot for the last ride of the night last night! It was slightly creepy (but cool) dueling in the dark with an empty train in an empty park. Everyone from TPR are just as friendly as can be, it's such a great atmosphere. Â Posting during some down time at Knotts right now before lunch, but today has been incredible already. Sierra Sidewinder shop tour was very cool seeing that one of a kind vertical transfer elevator and the Ghost Rider backstage tour right after it, and that was before ERT even started! I loved Iron Reef but am clearly terrible at it; every run I'm the lowest score

singemfrc
Thanks to Robb and everyone involved for planning such an astounding event! I've had an amazing time! Unfortunately I have to leave early and I'll miss the haunt tour and night ERT. I've had the best time at Magic Mountain and Knotts, and playing TPR Quest. Again, thanks Robb! I just finished the haunt tour it was fantastic. They took us through the Voodoo maze which is pretty elaborate. Most of the tour was do-not-photograph but there was one room (and it was the best one) where we were allowed to and there were some great photo ops. Looking forward to night ERT in a few minutes! Gonna grab one credit on coast rider, a couple laps on xcelerator (ERT rocks since its in one train ops during general hours!) and then finish out the night on the log ride! Â As we were standing backstage underneath Ghost Rider after the haunt tour talking to the designers it occurred to me that I spent way more time in, under, and around Ghost Rider today than I would have if it was open...and frankly taking photos of it from the inside is far more enjoyable than riding it. Â The guy who was leading the GR photo op (John I think his name was?) was surprisingly forthcoming during the tour, in fact I was a little surprised when he refused to answer questions during the Q&A that he answered quickly on the photo op...since I dont know if he maybe let those things slip on accident or maybe decided later he didnt want to say, I won't post what those were. Anyway he took the time to actually explain from start to finish exactly who and what caused GR to become so rough. I apologize if I don't explain this 100% correctly so if anyone who was there listening at the same time wants to chime in and add/correct something please do, but in a nutshell, earthquakes are to blame. He said when GCI and RMC were visiting concerning the upcoming refurb (yes those two were looking, but of course hes not going to say yet which one is doing the job) they were blown away by the sheer amount of wood used. If you look at the bents it has far more cross bracing than a typical woodie. So remember this was 1997, only a few years after the northridge quake and the park had quakes on their mind so they added more wood to CCI's design and then he said the city of Buena Park thought even that wasn't enough and had even more wood added. All that extra wood makes the whole structure unusually rigid and sturdy which is great for quakes but bad for coaster track and trains. It has no give and basically grinds itself to death. He said for quite a while they've been retracking it every 3 months. I wonder if Apocalypse's design, also being built in earthquake country and in fact on the footprint of a coaster essentially destroyed by an earthquake, is the cause of it's deterioration as well.
