Soda or Pop?

Just wondering! I noticed out in Pittsburgh this week that they are "pop" people... however over here in my area of PA we are "soda" drinkers.. what are you?

same here. esp. when I lived in WI, we (my family) called it soda but had friends who called it pop. *shrugs* I dunno...

When I lived in Ohio we drank pop. Now that I live in California we drink soda.

 

Now I just drink beer.

All i know is we call it soda in VA (well, at least in northern and SE VA). I heard people in HS call it "pop," but I think they were merely being prententious is all.

Up here in the North East it's called soda. We don't say pop.

Ted that was hilarious. I too drink pop, but my mother lives in FL, and hates when I use the pop. So I use that to p*ss her off! LOL!

My mom covers all the bases: she calls it "soda pop."

 

I call it soda. That's what it is, like it or not. Where did they get the term "pop" anyway? That sounds...stupid.

I really think I've noticed it being called "pop" less and less over the years. Obviously it seems to be a regional thing, but in all my travels I seem to remember the word "pop" a lot more about 10 years ago than I have lately.

 

Anyone else notice this too?

^ Yes, there is no doubt about that. Also, I think advertisments call it more along the lines of soda, not pop.

Well here in New Zealand we call it fizzy drink.

I say Coke and then the waitress usually says "what kind?" which is where you then differentiate what sort of coke you want.

 

Pop? What the hell is that? Since when did music have to do with what you drink?

Yep, a lot of people around here (middle Tennessee) tend to just say Coke, then you have to specify exactly what brand name of drink you want. Like "Can you grab me a coke?" "What kind?" "Sprite is fine."

I only know a few people who call it pop. I'm a soda girl myself.
