jedimaster1227
^^I try not to remember the experience I had Cobra at La Ronde... I think this coaster holds more entertainment value being reclaimed by the earth than it ever could have being fully operational. DarienLaker
--Robb "Some rides just need to die..." Alvey Like all Vekomas? Well, not all Vekomas. Speaking of Vekomas Darien Lake needs to get rid of the Mind Eraser that thing is one rough -ing pain in the head and butt coaster!
thestripedtaco
^ Or they could get some of those nice, new Vekoma SLC trains that apparently work pretty well on reducing roughness.
TPDave
^ Morey's piers have only had theirs 3-4 years now and the ride is back to being pretty rough. New trains aren't a solution on their own, it takes a lot of work too.
Sammy*
Well the sad thing was this was probably one the best coaster Astro World had after the Texas Tornado left the park. It looks like if where to be assembled it would collapse during the first test run. But non the less it still appears to be in better shape than Flashback;(the soon to be Boomerang at at SFstl). On another note its just strange to me to think that Intimain once used the same track as B&M. To think of it B&M is the only designer I can think of that have never changed there track design other than the subtle differences from Floorless to Dive Machine track. rcdude
Darien Lake doesn't need this, and based on the shape it's in I doubt the ride will ever be rebuilt. The one at La Ronde was not very good, and even if this one is slightly better I can't see any parks investing money to restore it. It probably wouldn't be significantly more expensive to have B&M build a new stand-up with an identical layout, and the ride would certainly be a better experience. Meteornotes
The one at LaRonde was death. It's a good thing this coaster is not running. dt

texcoaster
Well the sad thing was this was probably one the best coaster Astro World had after the Texas Tornado left the park. Um... Texas Cyclone, wooden cyclone made good again after getting decent trains. Viper, Schwarzkopf looper. Repeat: SCHWARZKOPF Ultra Twister. Not great, but unique to the US and better than the standup. Greezed Lightnin, Schwarzkopf shuttle. Again: SCHWARZKOPF and easily the best of the shuttles in the US. Awesome ride. There was also an indoor coaster, a kiddie coaster, a Vekoma SLC, an Arrow suspended coaster. All of them except the SLC were better than the standup. 3Mutts
Not sad to see this rust as I've ridden its clone at La Ronde this summer and it is easily the WORST coaster I've ever ridden. And this is coming from a guy who has ridden Mean Streak, Hercules, Predator,Canyon Blaster (The Great Escape), Mind Eraser (SFNE), Anaconda (Kings Dominion), Villian, Wildcat (Hershey Park), and a couple Boomerangs. I was just about to reply to that until I saw your reply. Exactly, pretty much everything else in the park was better. It was fun ride when it first open and had the really cool queue but otherwise like so many have said it's really not worth saving.
Sammy*
I only rode it back in 1998, then I did not remember it being that bad. Cyclone I did not have the expericnce of riding with new trains and track. You guys are right about Viper I just forgot about viper.-(where has viper been relocated too? Never got to ride Ultra Twister, as it was out of service my last visit. Never cared for greased lightning didn't do anything for me. But i do think it is classic non the less
Moose
This is actually in much BETTER shape than I would have expected. The rusting of the track looks fairly minor but i am guessing that chain could never be used again.

The coaster wasn't dismantled properly, so there's no way that Darien Lake going to set it up anytime soon and who cares if it has minor rusting the next place this coaster is going to is the junkyard with Viper (the one from Astroworld)! DarienLaker
] If it wasn't dismantled properly and in no condition to reassembled, why on earth would they waste the money to transport it all the from Texas to New York? A Foolish act of Six Flags, if they had dismantled it properly it would be set up at Darien Lake and it would have a better place in its "new" home! You have a point, otherwise it would be operating now. That makes me wonder if the company that unassembled knew and didn't say anything before having it sent and the issue was discovered by Six Flags when it arrived at the park. Regardless, why are they holding on to it?
AmyUD06
On another note its just strange to me to think that Intimain once used the same track as B&M. Water Bolliger (B) and Claude Mabillard (M) were employees of Giovanola when Shockwave was developed; Intamin only built the ride based on Giovanola's designs, which was somewhat common back then. Did they design/invent this track style themselves? I don't know, but I'd think it's likely since Giovanola or Intamin haven't used it since they left. What is obvious is that they liked it enough to keep using it when they left to form their own company in 1987/88. I

Maybe back when Six Flags still owned Darien Lake they had plans to set up the former Shockwave/Batman: The Escape coaster in 2007, but then Six Flags sold Darien Lake and the plans for it were cancelled! thrillrider
Ultra twister still sits at sfa in a field as well. Any chance we will see this ride operate again? Still hidden in a field inside the park.

SLUSHIE
Giovanola or Intamin haven't used it since they left. Giovanola continued to use that track design afterwards, just look at Goliath, Titian, and some other rides they built around that time. I'm not too sure about this, but I think B&M continued to work with Giovanola right up until they merged with them. Also intamin didn't build Giovanola rides, Giovanola was building rides under the Intamin name.
