jamesdillaman
No news on this? I drove by MiA today, and could tell something was being done behind Wolverine Wildcat, over in front of Grand Rapids, but couldn't tell what. For all I know it could just be sewer work! I've also heard land being cleared by FoF at PKI, but maybe that's to make room for the new layout of SoB (I hear they're adding another helix, to claim a world record for the one they gave up). Anybody hear anything valid? -James "Key word being VALID" Dillaman
Carnage
^ I hear X-Flight is going to PKI and they're going to move SoB's loop over to X-flight, giving it two inside verticle loops.
PKI Jizzman
If they added another helix over behind FoF...that would be a lonnngggg ride.....thats quite alot of extra track to get over there.....psshhhh ...yea right! Bring on X-Flight!
Milkchan
To be honest what reasons would X flight go to PKI? X flight going to MIA makes the most sense, would you put a new coaster in a park that was just bought over the summer (PKI) or put the coaster in a park that hasn't had a new coaster in 8 years (MIA). Carnage
^ Or maybe they are playing a sadistic game of RCT like what I always did. In that case they'd just leave the massive gap there, and snicker as train after train explodes on impact. Only to laugh evilly as people forget, and start getting on the ride again. jamesdillaman
^Nice of you to call it a dump, but many people in western and northern michigan are proud to call it their homepark, if just for the waterpark with the best wavepools I've ever been in. If MiA is a dump, then Beech Bend Park is beyond help of ever looking like a decent park. Just because MiA hasn't had a new coaster in a while does not mean it's run down. To the contrary, the new rapids ride looks great, much better than most I've been on, and I seriously believe they are finally filling out the back of the park. You have to remember, when CF bought them, there was nothing back there. -James Dillaman
Milkchan
This news is found at Pointbuzz http://www.pointbuzz.com/news.htm?id=1061 Cedar Fair announces $83 million in additions & improvements for the 2007 seasonThursday, December 21, 2006 1:00:53 PM Cedar Fair Entertainment Company Press Release SANDUSKY, OHIO, December 21, 2006 – Cedar Fair Entertainment Company (NYSE: FUN), a publicly traded leader in regional amusement parks, water parks and active entertainment, has announced plans for $83 million in additions and improvements at its parks for the 2007 season. Cedar Fair owns and operates 12 amusement parks, five outdoor water parks, one indoor water park and six hotels. Its parks are located in Ohio, California, North Carolina, Virginia/District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Missouri, Michigan and Toronto, Ontario. Dick Kinzel, chairman, president and chief executive officer, reported that the 2007 program will be highlighted by Maverick, a $21 million roller coaster at its flagship park, Cedar Point. Located in the park’s Frontiertown section, Maverick will treat riders to eight “airtime-filled hills,” three inversions and a second launch through a dark tunnel as the coaster reaches speeds of up to 70 mph. “After we built Top Thrill Dragster in 2003, I have been asked where do you go from here?” said Kinzel. “Now we have the answer in Maverick. With low to the ground, multiple terrain-hugging elements and plenty of airtime, it’s a ride that everyone will enjoy.” Kinzel also mentioned that an additional $4 million will be spent at Cedar Point in restaurant renovations and general park improvements. The 2007 capital program will also feature an $11 million water park expansion at the newly acquired Kings Dominion amusement park. The new attractions will include the addition of a second wave pool, a Tornado water slide with turning and churning wet spills, and a Zoom Flume, which will give families the opportunity to enjoy a rafting adventure together. “These have been very popular with guests at several of our other water parks, and I am sure visitors to Kings Dominion will enjoy these rides during the hot, humid Virginia summers,” said Kinzel. Kings Island, another park that the company acquired this past season, and Knott’s Berry Farm, the company’s only year-round park, will spend approximately $10 million and $8 million, respectively, on their 2007 capital programs. Kinzel added that both programs will be highlighted by major new thrill rides that will be announced by the parks at a later date. Valleyfair will spend $7 million for its 2007 operating season and will feature Renegade, a new wooden roller coaster. This 104-foot-tall coaster will entertain guests with a never-before-experienced twisting first drop, a low-to-the-ground high-speed S-turn and a high-speed station fly-by. The remaining capital will be allocated across our other seven parks and will include new rides and attractions as well as new restaurants, ice shows and general park improvements. “Jack Falfas and his team have been working very hard to maximize our capital dollars and I believe we have an exciting program in place at all of our parks for the 2007 operating season,” said Kinzel. “The $83 million program represents a wide range of attractions and shows the company’s commitment and dedication to offering the best in family entertainment, guest experience and service.” Cedar Fair Entertainment Company (NYSE: FUN), a publicly traded partnership headquartered in Sandusky, Ohio, is one of the largest regional amusement park/resort operators in the world. The company owns and operates 12 amusement parks, five outdoor water parks, one indoor water park and six hotels. Amusement parks in the company’s northern region include three in Ohio: Cedar Point, Sandusky, consistently voted “Best Amusement Park in the World” in Amusement Today polls; Kings Island, near Cincinnati; and Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom, Aurora; as well as Canada’s Wonderland, near Toronto; Dorney Park, Allentown, Pa.; Valleyfair, Shakopee, Minn.; and Michigan’s Adventure, near Muskegon, Mich. In the southern region are Kings Dominion, Richmond, Va.; Carowinds, Charlotte, N.C.; and Worlds of Fun, Kansas City. Western parks in California include: Knott’s Berry Farm, Buena Vista; Great America, Santa Clara; and Star Trek: The Experience, an interactive adventure in Las Vegas. Major thrill rides at the parks talking about KI and KBF. I just hope its not X-flight going to KI because I would be so disappointed .

Carnage
^ MIA would be included in the other parks. PKI spending $10 million shouldn't be X-Flight. It doesn't cost $10 Million to move a roller coaster.
Stitch
Well it is looking like they will be making a new area with X-Flight, perhaps that is what makes up the other percent of the 10 Mill.

It seemed a bargain for $20 (I had a coupon). You got 6 coasters, a few flats, and a good-sized waterpark for one Jefferson!

Milkchan
I really hope that CF do not put the Paramount parks infront MIA. Not to mention that it probably won't appear at a park till the 2008 season, otherwise I'm sure some one would have reported construction fences at MIA, or something. There have been a few people that claimed they say some construction at the park. Who knows the park closed down in the middle of September, thats is a pretty good time to start pouring footer or whatever.
SonOfBeastSucks
I don't want it at PKI, but I do think it would be a nice addition at MiA.
rollermonkey
That 10 million in capital expenditure could be the combined cost of: Moving X-flight Massive reconfiguration and new trains for Son of Beast Signage changes from the rebranding from Paramount to Cedarfair Just those three combined could easily reach 10 million dollars. Carnage
Signage changes from the rebranding from Paramount to Cedarfair Has there even been an official word on that? I assumed it was going to happen, but so far it looks like the Paramount name is still around. Haven't seen any sort of clue that Paramount name is going to be dropped. Nothing like SFMM dropping Six Flags from all signs, etc.
rollermonkey
They didn't buy the rights to everything Paramount forever. The names will change, (including a lot of ride names, bye bye Top Gun!) it's just a matter of when. I could easily see them spreading the pain (cost) of doing it over a few years, and go one park at a time.
Milkchan
I not going to lie but it seems that X Flight is going to headed for Kings Island ( I hate thinking about it.) Moving X-flight Massive reconfiguration and new trains for Son of Beast This is one case that makes since about the $10 million investment in the park. Just why couldn't it go to MIA . I wouldn't be surprised if they do end up dropping the Paramount name in the near future. If they do end up removing everything Paramount then they have alot of work ahead. Masked_Maverick
^^ Call me crazy but I think X-Flight would fit in better at PKI than it would at MIA. Have you rode that capacity nightmare? Being that I am also close to MIA I hope they don't get it. I would much rather get something fun like Grand Rapids then a used, crappy flyer. Heck a couple new flats for me would make for a better park experience then X-Flight.

Call me crazy but X-Flight doesn't fit in any park, as it is, as stated, an outdated maintenence nightmare, which pki definitely doesn't need another of (TRTR, Delirium, SoB, IJ:ST, just to name a few attractions that from talking with maintenence guys they wish were never built). I personally wish that Dominator was coming instead, or even Steel Venom. Heck, I'd rather ride Raging Wolf Bobs than wait an hour and a half for X-Flight just to have it break down. -James Dillaman
