Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

One thing I forgot to mention about Friday was that my buddy that I work with that drove us up to the park got walk-of-shamed on Toro. It was our first stop on arrival, and luckily afterwards he managed to fit onto everything else. I felt terrible, but of all rides it wasn't too much of a surprise. He tried to downplay it as I repeatedly assured him it happens all the time (in fact we saw it happen to two women later in the evening).

He's a bigger dude and I had my worries he might not be able to ride, and he tried so hard, but could barely even get the belt snapped. Once he did, and the bar wouldn't come down very far I knew it was imminent - to her credit, the op tried to push down a few times and then the dreaded spiel (which I'd never actually heard up close before): "Due to the design of the restraint, we will not be able to operate the ride with you on it".

God I'd hate to be the person to tell others they are too big to ride but as I said, he fit on everything else with no problem.

I've only been walk-of-shamed a couple times (not counting the times I've had to use the fat seat), but that first time, man...it really gets you. I had really let myself go by that point, and when visiting Dorney Park in October 2012 by myself for the first time in years, I tried to ride Possessed but didn't make the cut. To add insult to injury, I got walk-of-shamed on the very next ride I tried, that spinning ride between Possessed and Steel Force. I was definitely a little depressed after that, so I made a vow to myself that I'd get back in shape and come back to Dorney to get the credit. The next year, after dropping about 30 pounds, I fit onto all rides with ease, even getting a couple extra clicks down, too!

I know it sounds weird to be an enthusiast happy about tightening your restraints even more, but let me tell you, that felt gooooood.

Good for you... I will say though that Revolution has RIDICULOUSLY small restraints so you did unknowingly pick a ride that nobody fits in. I'm 6,3 and a little under 170 pounds... so I might blow away in a swift wind and I can't even fit on the middle seats.

Does anyone know what rides are going to be open Sunday night for the Cinco de Mayo ERT? I'm definitely going to the park on Sunday, just debating whether or not printing out this voucher and getting the wristband is worth it.

The email I got just said "select rides", too, nothing specific. I'd just print the voucher and get the wristband - no harm in being prepared, especially when we're talking about nearly zero effort here.

If the park did things that make sense they would have late night ERT on El Toro/Tango, since its Cinco De Mayo. But we know that probably won't be the case.

Not to mention last weekend they had early morning ERT on the Tea Cups, Houdini and the Carousel of all rides. LOL lamesauce!

^ That was my course of thinking too. It'd certainly be appropriate to keep Plaza del Carnaval open for the Cinco celebration, but knowing the park, they'll probably offer ERT for Blackbeard or something else lame. But michaellynn is right, might as well just print the voucher out to play it safe.

Haha yea. Once I saw that, I just promptly deleted the email and went on with my day.

Oh man, the last time I rode any kind of Tea Cups was @ Morey's about 15 years ago. It was that moment of exiting the ride and heading straight for the trash can when I realized I was no longer a kid that could ride just about anything. That long forgotten feeling reared its ugly head again when I did Rajin Cagun @ SFA last year. Ugh. No spinny rides for me (except Flyers, for some reason I am fine on them).

Hey... don't hate. When we ride the Teacups it instantly becomes the most forceful and terrifying thrill ride in the park. We usually get off that ride looking like we're stumbling out of a bar at 4am.

Fair enough.

To those who don't closely watch this park, seeing the parks name up on the water tower may not seem like much. However, to fans of the park, it means not looking a geico ad that was too expensive to take down. Heres to hoping that this is a start to Great Adventure picking up it's pride and getting it's life back together. The past 8 or so years have not been kind.

Also, no Jersey Boys El Toro ad! Seems like the ad craze Era is slowing down.

^^ Wait was there a Geico ad there before? I thought it was just rusted beyond comprehension.

And the removal of the Jersey Boys/Toro ad is a huge score, I HATED that! Especially now that we have such great views of Toro from Zumanjaros queue now.
