shadoww Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 I visited the park on April 28th, and even with the sloppy weather, it never rained hard enough to ruin our day. There was next to no one at the park, so we got plenty of rides. Everything was running, except Kingda Ka during the rain (which stopped at certain parts of the day, allowing me to get some KK rides in) El Toro X7- Simply an amazing ride. Airtime was spectacular, ride was smooth, drop was INSANE in the back. Overall a world class coaster. Kingda Ka X3- Fantastic ride in the front seat. The following rows were quite rattly, unlike TTD. Still was a great experience. Bizarro X4- I liked this over Dominator. It was smoother (especially the second half) and the fire effect was nice. The theming under the corkscrews also was nice, and the zero-g roll was great. Definitely the surprise of the day for me (Well, except for one). Skull Mountain X11- Back seat was crazy-fun, especially the first drop! There was no line, so we simply stayed on for multiple re-rides during the rainiest part of the day. Runaway Mine Train X1- Could have been smoother, but the turn over the water was pretty intriguing. I feel like there was a random pop of airtime in there too. Zumanjaro X2- Amazing view, but not as intense as other drop towers I've been on. The Dark Knight X2- Best wild mouse I've experienced, but at the end of the day, it's still a wild mouse. Nitro X2- Disappointment of the day. Just a very boring ride in my opinion. Better than some other B&M hypers, but still on the lower end. Superman: The Ultimate Flight X1 & Batman: The Ride X1- Same as the other clones at the other Six Flags parks. Batman is still quite intense and compact (and luckily not running backwards), and Superman was smooth, and the pretzel loop was nice. The second half sort of meandered around, but overall not a bad ride. I will say that the ride operators for Superman were flat out AWFUL on Thursday. Green Lantern X1- I've heard that this is perhaps one of the best stand-up coasters out there, but my second row ride was flat-out awful. The head-banging was strong throughout the ride (much more than other better stand-ups like Riddler's Revenge and Georgia Scorcher). In fact, I don't even think it was on par with Mantis. Just a bad experience. El Diablo X1- This was my second Larson Looper, so not much to say here. Better than an inverting swinging ship. The Top Spin didn't compare to KD's, and my only ride on Skyscreamer was in some amount of rain, so that was interesting. Overall, I had a great trip to Six Flags on Thursday, and despite the cold temperatures and heavy rain, like I said, there were no lines, which I really took advantage of. Look forward to next time!
Satans Hockey Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Sounds like a great day! I wanted to go after work that day but was too tired. Should have went lol shame you were disappointed with nitro. I love that ride so much, I get so much air time and just think it's so much fun. I ended up going to the park briefly today. The app clearly wasn't working until after 3pm cause I got there and everything said 5 mins while El Toro and nitro were clearly over an hour. I got on bizzaro and skull mountain and grabbed some soft serve ice cream with the dining pass and left. I knew Saturdays were bad from reading everything on here but I was bored and had nothing to do today. I'm only 35 mins from the park depending on how fast I drive so no big deal but I learned my lesson and won't be back on Saturdays until holiday in the park lol Debating going back tomorrow since the weather is suppose it be bad.
strz Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 When the highlight was a couple of Bud Light's at Tommy's pre-SFGA at 5pm......you know it was the wrong idea to head over! - Family had plans today/tonight, so figured why not get in some coaster time for a couple hours? - About that brew, that turned into two....not to turn this into "Yelp", but man oh man, now I know why that parking lot is empty all the time! - Got to the park around 5:20pm, and the lot seemed pretty full, but I wasn't discouraged - Got through security within a minute.....feeling good, right? - Went to grab dinner at Best of the West, about a (typical) 10 minute wait, no big deal (do yourself a favor and avoid the "steak tip" sandwich!) - Took a quick look at the wait times (SFGA app) while eating: Nitro 70 minutes, El Toro 55 minutes, Bizarro 35 minutes, Skull Mountain 25 minutes, etc......not feeling it! - Since I was down there already, I figured why not take a first hand look at the (reported) 35 minute wait time on Bizarro....it was now closed! - El Toro? love it, but wasn't in the mood to wait (especially being alone!) - the newest coaster, El Diablo.....1/2 hour wait time! Nope- still haven't been on it! - At that point, I figured just walk off my crappy sandwich, get my "free" snack.....and high tail it out! - Got my braided pretzel at the "formerly know as" the "shooting gallery".....and debated a cold one with it, but- for $9.99, I took a pass! (normally I'm not cheap, but being that I wasn't going on any rides, I didn't feel like spending the $$$$) Good for SFGA, bad for me tonight! Oh well..... Last comment- as posted by another user, I agree- hoping that "The Joker" cuts back on the wait times for the good stuff in the park!
strz Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 but I learned my lesson and won't be back on Saturdays until holiday in the park lol You and me both!
Satans Hockey Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 (edited) but I learned my lesson and won't be back on Saturdays until holiday in the park lol You and me both! Haha seriously. This is my first year in 10 that I've had a season pass and I was bored at home so I figured what the hell I'll head to the park but what a mistake. It was also my first solo trip as well. I'm debating going back tomorrow cause I've been addicted to El Toro and Nitro this year and with the next 2 Sundays, the 8th and 15th being bring a friend free days I wanna get some rides in since I'll be avoiding the park till then so won't be able to get there until the 22nd then. coasterbill Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 The crowds you're describing are not typical of a Saturday in April. Lines around 25 to 45 mins for Toro, 20 for Nitro and 10-20 for Diablo are more typical. Maybe they had a lot of groups but I don't mind visiting on Saturdays. It sounds like today was busier than normal.

I have no clue, but when I walked by nitro and El Toro today the lines were almost out to the entrance of the queues. I love those rides but no chance I'm waiting that long.
YoshiFan Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 There was a step competition and school music competitions that likely added to the crowds.

Thanks for the heads up, when they used to serve the Tri Tip sandwich at Macho Nacho it was very good. I was planning to get it next time at the park since it is new at Best of the West this year, but now I'm not so sure. Edited May 1, 2016 by larrygator

Weather played a role too I'm sure. Today's forecast is awful so many people probably went yesterday instead. And on that note, Six Flags is closed today. Go to Knoebels instead.

I appreciate good food, but on the other hand- I'm not a picky eater when it comes to park food.....that said, there are better options, IMO.
Satans Hockey Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 They should really send out emails and have the app have an option to have a notification to alert you when the park doesn't open or closes early.
boldikus Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 ^ Or you could just stay alert of weather conditions and then check one of the parks many social media channels, they are pretty good about updating all of them with notices like this mornings. I am not at all surprised they did not open today, it's supposed to be cold and rainy all day.

I did so I didn't waste any time going today but just saying sending out emails and notifications on the app really isn't that hard to do and could prevent others from going. The app doesn't even say its closed
boldikus Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 If people are too stupid to check the weather and the parks FB/Twitter pages on a day like today before going then they deserve to show up and be turned away.
coasterbill Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 If people are stupid enough to waste time at Great Adventure on Knoebels opening weekend then they deserve to show up and be turned away. Fixed
thrilladdict Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Geez some of you people are so harsh for no reason... the idea to send out a push notification is something that would take about 30 minutes to code in the app and save a lot of people trouble. I think the reminder would be a nice feature and I don't consider myself "too stupid" to visit a theme park.
SixFlagsAstroworld Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 ^you need a sense of humor to view this site

I think the reminder would be a nice feature and I don't consider myself "too stupid" to visit a theme park. I'm not being harsh, I'm being real. It's literally an 80-90% chance of rain until the park would be closing tonight. For the past few days all the local weather forecasts have been saying Sunday would be a washout. It's been raining since early this morning. One would think a sensible person would see that its raining, check the forecast for the day, make the reasonable assumption that its going to pour all day, and then check one of the parks MANY social media outlets or maybe even the parks website which was updated with the message about the closure earlier this morning. The idea of the app being updated is nice and all, but its not like the park hasn't made it perfectly clear that they are closed, I don't really understand the complaints made as if the park didn't inform people.
michaellynn4 Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Boldikus is 100% right. At some point, common sense and personal responsibility needs to take the forefront. Like he said, there are plenty of reasonable, easy-to-check methods to obtain operational updates. Push alerts are unnecessary, superfluous, and would be a waste of time, energy and resources for the park to bother attempting.
larrygator Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 To me it all depends on the volume of people who use the app. If you don't have a broad number of people using the app, having the push notification is nice. But until you reach critical mass on usage it is not necessary.
Satans Hockey Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Really wasn't trying to start a fuss, just think email blasts and app notifications are useful easy tools to get the message out to more people.
Philrad71 Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 At some point, common sense and personal responsibility needs to take the forefront. There will be none of that common sense banter going on here...this is America, damn it!
