coasterkid124 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 The worst incident I have encountered so far with selfie sticks was at Darien Lake. Somebody decided to stick one out just inches from the train as our Boomerang zoomed past the station. The ops did nothing about it either.
dcessford69 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Was at park today and wasn't too bad crowd wise.I left around 2 to head to HH as it was hot,boy was that a mistake.Went back to park around 7:30 for an hour and a half.Wasn't crowded at all.Zum was closed all day.Rode Ka,Superman,El Toro,Log Flume,Runaway Mine Train,Natab twice, and Nitro.I plan to go to HH first thing tomorrow to beat some crowds there, then head to the park at some point. Will be there Wednesday as well. Maybe I will hit El Toro first and see ya.First time we rode it in back today and boy she was quick
gabbykaulitz001 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Random question I've been wondering for a while. Has anyone ever been to this park and been able to ride all the coasters without a flashpass? I've been going for years and ALWAYS get the golden flashpass. Except for one year, we didn't get a flashpass and didn't get to ride all the coasters. I was just wondering if it's the same way for anyone else...have I been wasting money or?
boldikus Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 ^ Yes it is possible. It just depends on when you go. On a Saturday in 2013, on my first visit to the park in 20 years we worked our way around without a FP, and were able to ride everything but Superman and Green Lantern, but we skipped those since we had to leave @ 5pm. If we hadn't had to leave, we could have easily hit every coaster. I've been there on dead-to-moderately crowded days and hit everything with no problem in a few hours. Even when its pretty busy if you are there for a full day open to close and hit the rides strategically you could probably do all of them without a FP.
michaellynn4 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 ^^ When I used to go after work, there were times when I was able to hit every coaster in 2-2.5 hours (not counting the kiddie coaster or Blackbeard), including Rolling Thunder. I occasionally had to hustle between rides, but it was doable. Granted, that's different than going for a few hours on a Saturday. But yea, it's definitely possible. The only catch is that you may only be able to ride each coaster once. Flash Pass will help make sure you get re-rides on the coasters that are worth it to you.
RollerManic Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 ^^^I could have easily finished all of the rides the Friday night in 2014. I purposely saved Zum, Nitro, Superman, and Skyscreamer (ended up not doing the two latter) + the kiddie coasters for the next day. And this was during FRIGHT FEST (Fridays open at 5:30 PM and run till 12 AM). And since we were quick, I got five consecutive rides at opening on El Toro before having to give up my magic seat - and die to slow ops, it took 30 mins. We ended up leaving early at 10:30 due to migranes and hunger. Funny story... We left the park and most restruants were closed by then (even the McDonald's at Hamilton Marketplace!), we ended up ordering Dominos to be delivered to our hotel room - and D*MNIT IT NEVER CAME! They were still open for the next hour at the time of calling if I remember correctly. The next morning, we saw some untouched Dominos Pizza boxes outside another room's door - but they weren't the size we ordered, so they weren't ours. Ironic how we went hungery but they did deliver a different order that night and nobody touched those boxes...

It's a pain (I take that route south on my way home sometimes). Fortunately, they're building a Wawa where the old Harry's Army & Navy building used to stand, so FINALLY there will be something in that area available 24/7. There's also a new Taco Bell just a wee bit north past 195 on Rte 130, so there's another late-night option in that area.
NickLikesCoasters Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 It's definitely doable. I was at the park a few weeks ago on Sunday, July 5, and got on every coaster except for Blackbeard, Roadrunner, and Green Lantern. I got re-rides on El Toro and Nitro. I had gotten all that done by 4:30. Park was surprisingly dead for a holiday weekend, and it's one of the best visits I've ever had to the park.
Password121 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Just got back from visiting Monday and Tuesday for about six hours each day. Not going to do a full TR, but I finally decided to wait for the from on Kingda Ka--so worth it. Butter smooth, everywhere else was so rattly it was incomparable. El Toro has quite a bit of jack hammering through the valley of the turnaround and leading into the retun run floater hill. Other than that, the bull was flying and the RT hill is the best coaster element ever, I don't care what you say. The back seat makes this ride and has infinitely more ejector than even the fifth car. The ride was running much rougher than last year, but felt fast and the RT hill alone, combined with greying out in the twister section, makes me appreciate the intensity even more than last year when it was smoother. I had it ranked as my number one but now it's even a notch above that. I just need to ride Skyrush because intense ejector is definitely my kinda thing. Asides from that, Nitro was running well. It stole my brand new iPhone 5s into th woods, though it didn't even break as it still rang when we called it. Six Flags says "not even maintenance can go into Nitro's woods after closing." Umm... I disagree.
woolandmammoth Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Do not enter the Nitro woods after dark. It is prohibited to all for the evil spirits that sleep within awake at night! The last time someone went in, they never came out. Phones can be replaced, staff entering the spooky Nitro woods at night can not. OooOoOOoOooooOOoOoO

Genx24 Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Six Flags says "not even maintenance can go into Nitro's woods after closing." Umm... I disagree. They probably realized that they would have zero chance of finding the phone and told you something that sounded official. Sucks that you lost your phone, and sure they could have made an attempt, but trying to find a phone in those woods after dark would have been fruitless.
Password121 Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Cargo shorts with zippered pockets are your friends What's funny is most visits I do just that, but it was so incredibly hot I just couldn't wear heavy clothing. I had ridden the back row of El Toro and Kingda Ka about a dozen times already with no pocket issues, and on my last ride of the day Nitro's light and comfy floater hills decided to hate me. Maybe it wouldn't be so sour if Six Flags treated it nicely and repainted it

I call B.S. on this also and agree that this person was clearly making things up... I don't believe their claim that Six Flags has a maintenance team.

Sucks that you lost your phone, and sure they could have made an attempt, but trying to find a phone in those woods after dark would have been fruitless. This may be true, but another woman at lost and found at the same time lost her phone on Nitro around the same time and used her tablet for "find my iPhone," and could prove it was in the woods. They still were having none of it. Also, I know it's not a big deal and it was my fault for trusting my pockets too much, but two things... 1) Why would they bother enforcing the no loose article policy (no putting phones on the bottle shelves) if they don't bother checking restraints until the previous train has dropped off the lift? And they didn't enfore any of these policies on Bizarro. 2) The lady at Guest services told me maintenace checks the entire surrounding area of all the coasters/rides each morning before handing the keys to the operators... But then the (extremely disinterested, I might add) lost and found crew just said "nobody's going to find your phone. If they are able to trip over it they might pick it up, but otherwise what's lost on Nitro, even if it still works and you can see it, belongs to Nitro." Just sayin... Cedar Point has numerous ride bins for this reason and has infinitely better dispatches than Six Flags *best* operations. Oh well.
boldikus Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 (edited) We had a nice relaxing day at the park yesterday. Crowds were medium to high for a weekday, but it never got super packed on the midways and the longest we waited for anything was 30 minutes, so we never bothered with Flash Passes. Seemed like a ton of day camps on trips - lots of teens and pre-teens with matching shirts, many with camp logos on them. We got to the park around 10:45, got a good parking spot right near the preferred entrance, and headed for the park entrance where we found the ticket booths all had long, seriously slow moving lines. Two of the three of us have season passes so the third was getting the BAF for $9.99 deal so we had to wait. After 45 minutes (!!!) we made it to the booth and it took all of 2 minutes to get him a ticket, I really don't understand why it takes people buying day tickets so long. Lots of people with coke cans in line. Ugh. Since I have yet to ride Nitro in 2015 we headed there first and were greeted by a walkon. Score! We got train C, sat toward the back and I can happily report it was smooth as butter. What a great first ride of the day, that first drop in the back of the train never gets old. I love this ride. We all had our heads set on Namtab but when we attempted that next the line was out to the entrance. I figured since it's the "hot" ride of the park right now everyone would head here first so it made sense the line was so long. We would try back later. Since we were in the area we ducked in Skull Mountain and we had a station wait. I love this ride so much. They really had the death metal cranked today and its nice they sealed all the holes in the building, its nice and dark. And would you believe it - Skull Mountains station was Air Conditioned! Whoa now Six Flags don't get carried away or we'll start expecting this kind of treatment all the time. We sat in the last row of course because you get great ejector air over the drop. The rest of the ride is just silly and always makes me laugh like an 8 year old. From here we wanted to get a ride on El Toro so we headed over to the Skyride and discovered a modest line and one side operations. After not moving in line for 10 minutes we gave up, hopped the queue fence and decided we'd get over there faster by walking. On our way we spotted some cool sandcastle art advertising Fright Fest and Holiday in the Park. Pretty cool. On our way to El Toro we caught El Diablo running (even with a very short queue still skipped it), and we stopped at the just opened Macho Nacho and had ourselves some margaritas. They were pretty good but the service was slooooooow. They had one bartender and he was brand new and lacked any sort of grasp of English. Still, they were good and its nice to be able to sit and have some booze in this park. Finally! With bellies of tequila we sauntered over to The Bull where we had a quick 10 minute wait. Upon entering the station we heard this announcement over the PA system: "I know this is going to sound weird... but El Toro has 14 different trashcans placed around the ride. We understand the ride is bumpy, but if you need to use a trash can after the ride, please make sure it goes INSIDE the can and not on top of or all over the side of it" to which the station responded with cheers. After we found our rows toward the back of the train we watched one of the crew cleaning up the trash can directly next to the train inside middle section of the station. Gross. As we were boarding my buddy was securing his phone, a kid on the incoming train noticed and yelled at him "You better put that phone away, we just lost mine!!!" As we departed the station around the first turn we saw the same group of kids looking through the fence and obviously conspiring a way to get that phone back lol. The ride was fantastic as always, it was my one buddies first lap in the last car (he'd ridden with us last year toward the front of the train) and he was blown away. From here we attempted Zumanjaro, as my concerns of it being closed were for nothing - we had seen it running with people throughout the day. Of course when we got back there the line was closed off for technical difficulties. We turned towards Kingda Ka and that line was out of the entrance. Booooo. We walked out of the Golden Kingdom and gave Superman a shot - the greeter informed us it was an hour and a half wait. Nope! Let's give Namtab another shot. So we headed there and the line just into the switchbacks before the tunnel. They had two trains running and this line basically never stopped moving. This crew was hustling more than any other crew I witnessed all day. And believe it or not - the tunnel/steps have AIR CONDITIONING!!! I was really blown away by this. We sat in the front (row 7) and jesus god that thing has so much insane force. Easily the most intense ride in the park after Toro, got us all a little dizzy. From the lift we could see Nitro's queue was totally full. We needed lunch and a break so we headed out to the lot to eat sandwiches we had packed in the cooler in the car. Once we headed back in we gave Zumanjaro another shot and the line was long but bearable. For one, its nice that most of the queue is covered and for the whole not-being-able-to-run-both-rides-at-the-same-time thing they seem to have it down to a science as just like Namtab, this line never stopped moving. It was about a half hour but didn't feel that long. This was my one buddies first ride on this and he has an extreme fear of heights so it was fun to see his reaction. He said he would do it again, but he was white as a ghost and basically speechless when we got off. LOL On our way out of the Kingdom we stopped at Superman and the line was a lot shorter than earlier. Again we waited about a half hour for this but mostly in the shaded parts of the queue and the line didnt really stop moving. I have to say this crew was hustling too. We did the last row and holy crap the way you get yanked through that pretzel loop is just ludicrous. While exiting through the gift shop I picked up a really cool Superman magnet to add to the growing collection on my refrigerator. All day we had been talking about doing one of the water rides so since none of us have done Congo Rapids in forever (its been 2 decades for me) we headed there. Another 10 minute wait and we all managed to basically get soaked head to toe. I forgot how fun that ride is and I'm glad we did it. We headed out at 5:30ish, as one of my buddies got a muscle cramp in his side on something midday (Toro we think?) and with each ride it was getting worse and worse. Since we had done everything we really wanted to we decided to head out, stop for food somewhere and head home. Nice weather, never felt PACKED, glad we could take a day off and enjoy the best of what the park has to offer for a few hours. Nitro 1x Skull Mountain 1x El Toro 1x Namtab 1x Zumanjaro 1x Superman UF 1x Congo Rapids 1x Edited July 23, 2015 by boldikus
Password121 Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Too bad I just missed you boldikus. It sounds like Wednesday was way more crowded than Monday and Tuesday, as even midday Tuesday row 2 on Kingda Ka was about 20 minutes. El Toro filled one set of switchbacks both days, but I did most of my riding before about 2 so I grabbed about 8 rides overall. I'm glad Nitro didn't hate you as well

michaellynn4 Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 I went to the park tonight with a bunch of former coworkers. I had my first experience with Namtab - man, does that give a fresh new experience to that ride! I was legitimately disoriented by the time I got off, something I haven't felt after a roller coaster in a long time. Overall a great experience, but I'm glad that it's just a temporary change and not a permanent one.
Chris27 Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 was at HH and GA all day yesterday with the family. I hate HH, its always packed, they move so slow, you have to wait for a tube for 30 min then wait again to go up the stairs. Hate it. Especially when I was just at ACtion Park and could walk on cliff jumps and swings and way better water rides. But we had the family and cousins and kids with us so this was for them. GA at night was pretty crowded in parking lot but we really didnt wait more than 20 min for anything, Nitro, Ka, Toro, walked on Zumanjaro like 4 times in a row. Loved Namtab, I know people dont want it to stay like that but I do, yeah its still a good ride forward but it was so much better backwards. I think they should have done it and kept it the whole year backwards. Also my cousin is big, he gets on everything except Batman, Toro we have to really push him in to get him on but he can. He hasnt been on Batman in like 12 years or something. he tried to see if he could fit on the seat in front of the line to test it and he wasnt close but he said he'd wait on line with us. Plus my cousin said they are using new trains or harnesses on it so lets see. The belts were much longer and he was able to get in easily. WOuld hate to see someone try the test seat out front and think I cant ride it and not even bother to try and go on it. Overall it was a good day, weather was great, knew it was gonna be somewhat crowded but was still solid day. Cant always be days you walk on everything, those days have to be timed with the weather or you just luck out and the parks are dead but July is always a busy month with families and kids taking trips. Will hit up HH a few more times and few more park trips but now I'm just waiting on fright fest. Nothing better than an Oct night in the park hitting up the coasters, weather is cool, its so great.
michaellynn4 Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Loved Namtab, I know people dont want it to stay like that but I do, yeah its still a good ride forward but it was so much better backwards. I think they should have done it and kept it the whole year backwards. I'm going to re-evaluate my opinion on Namtab after a few re-rides. I ended up getting a bad headache afterwards, but I think that was mostly caused by other factors (I hadn't eaten in a while), and I don't want that to have clouded my judgment. I still really enjoyed it!
Coaster Hero Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I tried Namtab twice last week, once in the "back" and once in the "front", and it's extremely intense. Not seeing the elements in front of you and not being able to anticipate them makes it even crazier than it already is. I enjoyed it, but it's not very re-rideable and definitely should be limited run
