robbalvey
I only try to help provide the 'other side of the story' for those members reading who are interested about the industry at large outside of Royal Caribbean. Gee, well, it's funny that you only have ever done this for anything Carnival related, so once again, I'm not buying what you're selling. And we're all intelligent enough to read on our own. We really don't need someone looking out for us, and showing us the other side of the story, thanks. And if you haven't ever been on a Carnival cruise, then you don't "know quite a bit on the topic" as you claimed. Perhaps it would be better if you stuck to a topic where you actually know something about the subject matter? Also, I don't think anything shown in these photos look "bearable." Last time I checked, having to sleep on a make-shift bed in the middle of a bar or on a middle deck somewhere isn't something that most people would be "ok" with.... Jojo19799
I just wish there was a way to better educate the world about the various cruise lines and how different they really are. Well I read your Disney and RCCL trip reports, and thought they were fantastic! It sold me on a cruise. I'm just trying to decide which RC ship and when. I just wanted to add that a cruise is a vacation! It's not supposed to be "roughing it". If people wanted to poop outside in bags, then they'd go camping. robbalvey
Yeah, so Carnival cleaned all this up before the ship got into reachable airspace for the news to be able to see it. What's stupid about this, is that obviously these pictures are all going to surface, and it's just going to make Carnival look even worse that they are attempting a "cover up." Dumbasses. Jew
Sadly, there's always going to be a market for Carnival---they're the WalMart of cruise ships. People can't resist the cheaper prices and "booze cruise" atmosphere.

In that case, we shouldn't welcome the comments from posters who haven't been to a specific park yet, because they obviously don't know what they're talking about, right? I am as much a cruise enthusiast as I am a theme park enthusiast and I know alot about the industry in general as it has been an interest of mine for years now. Just because you haven't experienced something firsthand doesn't mean you're not educated on the topic.

Actually we yell at people all the time who talk about parks and rides they haven't been to! You should really tone it down a bit. Hotlanta
According to a passenger on CNN right now the sewage dripping down was like rain and it they are using tarps. To the poster making apologies for Carnival sewage dripping down the walls is not bearable in anyway. I hope none of these folks suffer from Cholera or something equally awful like that. The new arrival time is 10-12AM ET. I am now totally buying into Scott's theory of trying to sneak out the passengers under the cover of darkness. Guy T. Koepp
Is mobile really that much closer than Galveston? I am surprised Carnival isn't considering that! This sounds awful and further confirms I will never sail Carnival again. Mobile has a shipyard and drydock. Much cheaper and faster to tow the ship direct to Mobile than to Mexico THEN Mobile. Not defending the decision, but that's why. Besides, Alabama is kinda like the Carnival Cruise Line of the United States.
robbalvey
This is exactly the kind of shady tactics I expect from Carnival. Try to butter people up (literally) and clean up as much as possible before getting to shore, get them in late, after dark, when it will be more difficult to interview people getting of the ship, and do whatever it can to make Carnival look as good as possible in a siutation like this. I refuse to believe they have the passengers best interest at hand and instead are doing everything they can to do "damage control." --Robb
gisco
Amazing, practically everybody with a phone has a camera with video. Does Carnival really think they can put a happy face on this by doing a little cleaning and serving food?

Guy T. Koepp
^ Where are you getting this information from? It doesn't sound accurate at all. If they were on 40% power, why isn't 40% of the ship working? Sorry, but I don't buy what you're selling. Carnival on Monday said technicians on the Carnival Triumph had restored its freshwater system, and toilets were operating in some parts of the vessel. Some power had been restored to the ship's Lido buffet, allowing for hot coffee and limited hot food service. Power also has been restored to a limited number of elevators on the ship, making it easier for passengers to move around the vessel. USA Today ^ That's the closest link I can currently find, but several family members have been contacted by those aboard today and have been posting on Cruise Critic regularly. For whatever reason, power has been mostly restored to the forward part of the ship only, I can't explain this unless it has something to do with the electrical system having not been damaged forward by the fire (engines are more aft). According to those posting, passengers have been able to find power outlets that work and are using power strips to charge their cell phones and such and apparently the food hoarding was true, they asked people to stop hoarding food and began serving them (versus a buffet style they had earlier). The USCG hoisted aboard another generator earlier today to provide more hotel services, but I haven't heard what effect this may have had. And, no, I am not a Carnival fanboy by any means. But the media is sensationalizing every morsel of information they get and are trying to make the entire industry look bad. As for how Splendor had it worse, they didn't have any power restored at all (no elevators, no hot food, etc) whereas Triumph has. So what your saying here is, No phone, no lights, no motor cars. Not a single luxury. Like Robinson Crusoe, as primative as can be. source: http://www.lyricsondemand.com/tvthemes/gilligansislandlyrics.html
BeemerBoy
This is still my favorite news headline: "After tow line breaks, Carnival Triumph drifting toward Alabama" I guess it's only natural a turd finds its way to a toilet.

Meteornotes
This is horrible and yet entertaining at the same time. I love how they're trying to cover up how bad this is. Every time I think Carnival can sink no lower, they end up proving me wrong. They have to be one of the worst companies on the planet at this point. And to the "Carnival Apologist & Cruise Expert" please defend sewage dripping down walls as anything but horrible. Oh, that's right, you can't. The conditions on this ship are unbelievable, and I'm thinking the pictures/video we're going to see over the coming days are only going to get worse. Keep it Klassy, Carnival! dt
SharkTums
Reed is already suggesting the new maiden voyage of the Triumph as our next Klassy Kruise! As much as they may be 'giving away' the Kruise, I don't think I could do it! Just knowing what went down on that ship, oh dear!!! We were on the Freedom of the Seas after it got really hammered by a storm last year and they were still pulling up carpet, drying areas, replacing glass and stuff and that was just simple water/storm damage. What happened to the karnival ship, oh dear, hell no!

Xmeister
Maybe I've been mean to Six Flags when I've referred to Carnival as the "Six Flags of the Seas." I'd say it's more on level with Nara Dreamland on a bad day. I'm reading these reports, and I'm shocked. It just seems like Carnival doesn't care about people's safety. Look at what's happened to Carnival Corp as a whole in the past 13 months. Costa Concordia disaster Costa Allegra has a fire and ends up adrift in pirate infested waters Carnival Triumph fire This is such an abnormally large amount of accidents for the cruise industry as a whole and they are all linked to Carnival!! This is the company that employs scum like Captain Schettino who are ok with denying that anything is wrong for over an hour after running aground. They clearly don't care about passenger safety. Also, the above incidents are a mere fraction of the incidents that have taken place within the corporation over the past fifteen or so years.
