Twister II
For those of you that know, I've been sick for about one week so far. Ive had a constant fever of 102 sence Sunday last week. After visiting the doctor yesterday he sent me to the throat doctor. When I got there they called me in and said my toncels had to be taken out, and soon. They gave me a numing shot, which hurt like hell. Then 3 more shots to drain the pus of my toncel. So by now Im in extream pain and crying like a lil baby. On our way out, we are told to go to the hospital and get blood work done. The lady there was nice, but she moved the needle around so much it hurt, very very bad. So I havnt had anything to eat or drink sence 10pm last night, and Im leaving for surjury to get my toncels out in 5mins. Im very scared... Hattuchili
Yeah, good luck! I had that surgery in 2002. I was 22 and really scared, as I saw the operating room! However, it was not as bad as I thought! It hurt a little bit after the operation and I spit a lot of blood, but they gave me so many ice cream each day, again and again! That was so cool and good for my throat. --Sören
Guest
You'll do fine. Taking out tonsils is an easy procedure anymore. You get all the ice cream/popsicles you want. And they give you meds to help with the pain. Feel better, i'm sure you will be back on TPR in no time. Katie

BiCoastal Kid
I like how you get sick once for a week and they have to remove your tonsils, but I had it 4 times in a year and they said they wouldn't take them out... I need to move out of Georgia!
coasterdude5
I had the surgery when I was five, It's no big deal, it's over before you know it! Good Luck!
SharkTums
Yeah my tonsils are majorly screwed up and this is EXACTLY what the crappy doctor says: "yeah well, they're big, and filled with puss...but that also means they're still working...so if you're only getting sick a few times a year and the rest of the time it doesn't bother you, I wouldn't recommend the surgery yet" Great, thanks a lot! Especially since the surgery only gets worse and worse as you get older. And I guess that you're allowed to get sick a few times a year before you're deemed worthy of getting them out! Sir Clinksalot
^ yeah, my tonsils are constantly swollen. both me and my brother always got bad tonsils and they took his out and somehow ignored me. maybe he was more important than me? probably
dandaman
The bad part about my tonsil surgery was the fact that, while my throat hurt, it hurt even more because of a throat infection. That was when I started to like sherbet better than ice cream... it tasted more like just flavoured ice than flavoured ice and fat. Twister II
Well when doing the surjury, they found something, bad. I had an abcess behind my toncel. A big one to, all the way down my throat. They said if they didnt get it out then, it could have gone into my chest. Not a good thing. Well I was so scared they had to give me oxygen, twice. Once in the OR and once in recovery. While the nurse was trying to put the IV in, she couldnt do it. She shot me 4 times before she finally got it. And they all hurt. Im feeling better, but I still have a sore throat. Im not feeling sick, I just feel lazy... My boyfriend is seriously worried about me, I wish I could tell him tho that Im okay. -Taylor "I got free apple juice b-otches!" Token Yankee Guy
^ the good thing is you are feeling better. I myself never had a problem with my tonsils and I don't think I will. Plus I've never been in any kind of surgery and the only time I've been to the hospital was when I went to the ER to get stiches above my left eye. SonOfBeastSucks
The great news is that they found the abcess and got it out. I once had to go to the ER when I broke my arm.
dsngiem
Hope you feel better soon. I've only been in the hospital once. I was in third grade and i got bit by a dog and my sisters were making me believe that I had rabies. I cried. and they took me to the er. I didnt have rabies. I just have scars. jonathan h
Good luck with the surgery and hope you get better soon! I only came out of hospital yesterday. Had cataract in both my eyes and so I had to go and have an operation to get them removed. Cause it was like a dead easy operation I was only in hopsital for half a day! I had my right eye done 5 weeks ago, they do it one at a time so if they mess up you have one good eye! That wenmt perfect and I went in yesterday to have the left eye done. It was cool cause everyone knew who I was and all came over to have a chat. I got to have a good look around in the operating theatre and they explained everything to me and what all the instruments do etc. Everyone was really nice and it rocks to be awake one second and then suddenly asleep. I wasn't really nervous cause there were so many people in theatre making sure everything was going cool and chatting with me, but when the anethetic starting giving me pins and needles in my face i got a little worried cause it didn't happen the first time when I had my right eye done. But yeh, it was cool and went smoohtly. And the best bit, no pain. Only a little this morning cause I couldn't take pain killers last night because they put a nice high dosage in me when I was asleep. But I had some this morning and now it just feels like there is something in my eye but that will go once the cut they made in the eye heals up. I'm still slightly drugged up cause the anesthetic hasn't got out of my system yet but my vision is really good now. Seriously, the doctors and nurses that do this stuff do work miracles! dandaman
My grandma goes in for cataract surgery tomorrow... At first, it sounded really painful (peeling the lens out of your eye... yeesh...), but I've yet to hear any horror stories about it.
jonathan h
I was asleep the whole time but it sounds easy as pie. They said they can do the operation with me awake but I would have seen the knife coming towards my eye and freaked out. But yeh, it is a dead easy operation and doesn't hurt whatsoever. But it is normally older people that get it, I'm only 15 so when people ask about it they are like "ok...and your only 15 right?"
dandaman
I actually was curious about your getting cataract surgery done at this age... I thought it was mostly with becoming older?
jonathan h
Well, it normally happens as you get older however it can be something you just have, get if you are totally stressed out or have diabeties. They tested me for diabeties and I don't have it. I am not stressed out in any way that would cause Cataract so they said it is just something that I was born with. According to the consultant it isn't rare for teenagers to get it but it isn't something they get every day. They normally do the operation on older people but the precedure that I had was exactly the same as the one they would give to a adult or older person. They just make a microscopic slit in the eye, then blast the cataract with ultrasound to break it up, suck it out of the eye and put in a new lens made out of Sylicon. All of this takes around 20-30 mins and the sucess rate is really good. They said that the chances of anything going wrong were 1 in 1000 and they said if anything did go wrong they would be bale to fix it which is pretty good. People were like "what if you go blind" but really, the changes or so slim, might aswell take a risk and get better vision than be scared, not have the op and have really crappy vision. Tell your grandma the operation is easy and it doesn't hurt at all. The only annoying thing about it is having to put the drops in everyday. jarmor
im sorry dude but the funny thing is that I just got my tonsils taken out in the 18th of last month and I still havent return to work yet. I got it done on a tuesday and that saturday night I was back in the ER because I had complications from the surgery that caused me to bleed non stop. I thought it was normal but it was alot of blood and I was getting very week so I told my mom and she took me to the ER. I ended up staying 2 days and begged to go home! Im still in a little pain but I can eat now. The good thing about it is that I dont remember the surgery at all, both of them, and I lost weight! A bad part is that the only food I can really eat that taste the same right now is chicken and I can only drink ginger ale because thats all that doesnt make me gag...well that and water! Oh yeah and here I am thinking I was gonna eat icecream but the doctors told me thats not something to eat because it causes salivia to stay in the back of my throat or something like that. SO for like a week and a half I was living off of apple sauce, chicken broth, and mash potatoes! The kid should be fine he's young and not fully developed but me, a 23yr old, that crap was sooo painful afterwards and still is a little, but the meds they put me on....whoooooooo im feeling like im on cloud 9 but the antibiotics, one in particular, is sooo nasty I wanna stop taking it right now! and elissa if I were you I would consult another physian (spl?) because all my life I was told the same thing and kept getting penicillin and other crap but the doctor I went to recently who preformed the surgery told me that you can die for having enlarged tonsils because they can block your air passage and cause you to stop breathing in your sleep, now thats scary  ! I remember now I was advise not to eat ice cream because of the mucus build up in the back of my throat isnt good for my throat. yeah I dont think eating mac and cheese is good since you just got the surgery. I could barely open my mouth the first couple days.
