PTR: SFMM July 28

It took awhile to get into the parking lot, so we figured it would be crowded so we headed straight for Scream! figuring it be the shortest line.

Though we were planning on riding Scream! first, couldnt just walk by Goliath without giving it a courtesy ride. With the heat it was running really fast and intense.

Didnt ride STE today

Rode Scream! in the front row and it was totally kicking butt! A bit rough around the edges as always, but it was by far the best ride ive had on it.

It had a long line as always

Took a spin on BTR next

We were treated to a walkon here also.

Batman was kicking butt also, the hot weather was really making the coasters intense

Grinder Gearworks

These fan mister things were really comfortable to stand under, would be nice if they had these lines instead of the crazy overkill misters that soak you in line

Riddler was next which was a station wait...aka 15 minutes of hell.

This is where things started to get irritating. We waited 1 1/2 hours for DejaVu, the crew was slow as molasses, and it was all leads. When the train came back and parked they would sit at the control panel and talk to each other, their pace was decent when they finally got around to checking the restraints but the time they took talking to each other before actually working took forever. The grouper, who was also a lead, wasnt filling the seats at all and every train had a bunch of empty seats, on top of the fact that he let people who were clearly too tall go by him without saying anything so that held up the train even more while the ops pulled them off the train to check them. They really, really sucked. And on top of that each train was like half flash pass half standby.

So yeah...

The ride was totally awesome as usual though.

Terminator was running 1 train, and we saw Tatsu was running both stations with not too long of a line so went on that next. It turned out that while it was using both stations, it was only running 2 trains and the line after the split was really long so it was a long, hot wait with basically 1 train op.

In case you were wondering where the annunciator is

On a positive note, the TV's in X2's line were back to the themed X2/break.com programming

The line wasnt too long, but took forever! We were in the general queue for 30 minutes, literally held at the split for at least 30 minutes, then after the split it took forever to get in the station. I REALLY wish they redid the station as part of the re-do to have lowering floors, as such a slow moving line for the most popular ride is sad.

While waiting for X2, something caught the corner of my eye...

Wow, really?

Yes, that Viper train got a Shwarzkopf hair gel overlay

Found it kindve odd how they didnt paint that one storage track

I was the next train to get on, and it broke down. It looked like the train didnt make it all the way into the drive as it wouldnt come into the station, so they pushed it about an inch forward then it came back in and a few minutes later was ready to open back up

X2 was running brilliant, all of the show was working except the camera missed our seat for the onride picture

The ads are really out of hand

And of course since the banner under the log ride, train shells plastered with the ads, and banners posted up in the station isnt enough theyve gotta have the billboard as you exit the ride to get the point across

Someone was working on Thrill Shot

Looks like the Terminator ride operators got new costumes (last time I came it was a green tshirt with regular khakis, talk about ugly)

Terminators operation is still very inconsistent. People in line (which was a full queue) were extremely pissed off when every other train went by half empty. Some days they send people through without watching the whole preshow, other days they have people watch the whole preshow and send the trains half empty.

The best water fountain in the park is located at the "Shadyrest Room"

Wow the Viper trains are tacky as hell! I understand getting revenue from a sponsor but they could have done something in the station and not on the trains themselves. I can't wait for "Reach salvation when you terminate vaginal burning, itching, and discharge with Monistat-7" on Terminator.

While I am pleased with the X2 videos and Termy costumes, I'm super P.O'd about Viper, that is just the lowest form of advertising (I guess (a) Schwarzkopf decided to get revenge on Arrow ) Why do I have a feeling that sometime in the future we're gonna get a dark ride that will take us through 'The Wonderful World of Boca Raton Timeshares!"

Agreed. I like what SFMM did by putting the wipeout videos back because no matter how many times I went they always made me laugh. I'm taking it Terminator's queue videos are still the same? As for Viper's trains, FAIL!

Look on the bright side...at least they got a new coat of paint.

Its big stickers they put on the train, the train wasnt painted.

When I went to SFMM in early July was greeted with this, maybe next time theyll have something else that looks rediculous to take pictures of

I know that a few of the Six Flags parks did the wrap ads this summer on roller coasters.

Doesn't bother me at all since none of the coasters I've seen it on had any super nice paint job or theme. It would seem stupid to do it on like Dueling Dragons or a themed ride though!

If this is making Six Flags money for new rides and improvements I'm all for it, since it doesn't really detract or annoy anyone!

Agreed.

Personally, I'm all for the ads on the trains!

I mean, at SFOT when was the last time the Flashback train got ANY love? For the ads it was completely repainted and refurbed. It looked GREAT!

Not sure how much love the Viper train got other than the wrap, but if these new ads mean that rides are getting some TLC that have been neglected for the past, what, DECADES? BRING ON THE ADS!!!

I dont have any problem with ads but IMO theres a difference between making money off advertising and just slapping ads everywhere. The bathroom advertisements for example, I have no problem with those. Who cares if you have to look at an ad while taking a piss, and I have no problem with a "sponsored by ____" on the marquee.

But when its judgement day and your trying to fight Skynet from destroying the human race, or your walking through Gotham City Rail's transit area (TDK at SFGAm) and the Jonas Brothers or More Flags More Fun are playing on TV, it completely destroys the whole point of theming the ride, or the park in general.

To me Six Flags Theme Parks were really great and curturally relevant in the early to mid 90s under Time Warner and now are really struggling to get that reputation back. It just seems that at every Six Flags I get the "i'm sure this park looked great back in the day but now is just struggling to operate." Most of the ads they've been putting in give me a much greater perception of that and its sad. From all the SF parks i've been to, MM and GAdv are two of the worst looking/ran ones and those are supposed to be the flagships.

I'm sure overall SFMM is much better than it was a few years ago, at least now all the rides are open and most running 2 trains, and yes they painted a whole bunch of rides.....but.....being in LA, and Six Flags most publicized park, if I were a normal GP the place still would definitely let me down in a big way if I didn't know it is the way it is. If they need ads to help with the cost of operating the rides i'm all for it, but what they did to Viper looks terrible and is totally classless. Its not only the stick ons the trains, the huge banners everywhere and wall mural billboard thing at the exit.

The lack of effeciancy is really was really frustrating yesterday also. Its a huge corporate theme park that gets a lot of publicity, do you really need to be sending out half empty trains because of the preshow. No one cares if they miss 15 seconds of the preshow. DejaVu's crew were too busy talking to eachother to check the restraints even though the line is over an hour. Cant do much about that if the people causing the problems are the management, the crew was all leads.

But we already know all this, so whatever

I understand how advertising brings much needed money into the park, and a little bit of it doesn't bother me. But it can go overboard.

Honestly, though, I just ignore it or make fun of it.
