noregrets
I forgot about the Lodge theming, that's a good point. And Darien Lake's best asset is its ability to easily expand being in the middle of nowhere, so I can see an indoor water park getting appended to the existing lodge building. Tanks4me05
^^Underwater tunnel wouldn't work, at least with lakes. Raising any of the lakes by 15 feet would flood a huge portion of the park. The only way that would be possible is if they did it Diving Coaster Vanish style (going under a pool) but that will be hard to pull off well. The giant pool would have to be extensively themed. Lake Erie Monster does seem interesting though. I like the idea. I always would love to see a dark blue track and black support color scheme on it. DougMJr
I like the indoor waterpark idea as there appears to be enough room around the hotel for such expansion. Actually I recall hearing rumors of a possible indoor waterpark a couple years ago. I would love to see some theming at mind eraser. There are some nice looking SLC's out there and this could be one of them. I guess they don't need to remove motocoaster. I just hate that they just plopped it on top of the pool. It really doesn't even look perminant. It is a decent family coaster though.
beatle11
^Some water jets at the bottom of the drop on the SLC would be really cool. And I'd love to see the new trains on that and the Boomerang.
noregrets
^I recall from a looong time ago that Mind Eraser used to have some kind of misting or spraying effect at the bottom of the first drop when it swoops over the pond, is that not there any more? odene497
^I think I saw it turned back on once last year and went "Oooh, improvements!" But it didn't last. I believe there was also some mist at the bottom of ROS's first drop when that opened.
Tanks4me05
^^^IMO Boomerang doesn't really need the new trains. Of the six boomerangs I've been on, I loved them all. Mind Eraser, however, could definitely benefit.

They really need to have the mist back on the Ride of Steel and Mind Eraser as well the photo spot on mind Eraser needs to return!
DougMJr
^Where was the on-ride photo? I know where the hut was... but what part of the ride did it take your picture?

IDK, but I remember seeing on web an on ride photo of the Mind Eraser from the Premier era of Darien Lake, but I can remember the site it was on! Like where was the hut near the kiddie coaster? Intamin10
There was a metal tower , that had the camera on top of it. Were the arrow is now.
DarienLaker
Didn't The Predator had on ride photo spot? I've could have sworn the shack where the Icee stand is now was either an on ride photo and/or souvenir shack.
anonymouscactus
Predator had on-ride photos [ah, the 'ol black and white printouts on a clipboard!], as did Mind Eraser (right before the final two inversions). Both no longer exist.
KDCOASTERFAN
^ MarineLand is in Canada so that's not a real competitor to Darien Lake since MarineLand is more like Canada's answer to Sea World except there's only one park and its mascot a walrus and not a killer whale. It's just as close to the closest major city (Buffalo) as is Darien Lake. Don't Marineland commercials even run on the American television stations? They are still competitors. Even without competition from nearby parks DL would have to work even harder to keep the locals interested in the place & that means investing money in new attractions...having competition nearby only makes it worse if the park isn't keeping up. DarienLaker
How long has the Viper had its on ride photo, was that added to Viper when Six Flags bought Darien Lake or has it been there since Viper opened in 1982?
KDCOASTERFAN
There was a metal tower , that had the camera on top of it. Were the arrow is now. DarienLaker
I've could have sworn that the Viper has had the on ride photo camera since 1999, but I may be worng! Didn't Barracuda Bay had some slides behind 'Cuda Falls that were removed in 1999?
anonymouscactus
I've could have sworn that the Viper has had the on ride photo camera since 1999, but I may be worng! Viper also had the black and white printout photos, like Predator, pre-six flags / before 1999. Instead of monitors to view them, essentially they were sort of like poloroid photos that they printed out for the entire train and attached to a clipboard, if you purchased it, you kept the photo they already printed out, if you didn't purchase it, they just threw it in the trash. Didn't Barracuda Bay had some slides behind 'Cuda Falls that were removed in 1999? Pipeline Plunge (the yellow enclosed raft slides with the "rainbow" insides), Riptide Run (the blue "wavy" raft slide), and ????? [the individual yellow sled ride which "skipped" across the water at the bottom] (Hydro Force was the OLD name when it was built over the lake, but I'm almost positive it later changed names when it was relocated to Barracuda Bay (though I can't seem to find any reference to a name change with a quick search) EDIT: Hydro Force was renamed "Torpedo Rapids" when it moved. The Wikipedia / history page is incorrect in listing these as two different slides (also the drop is not 90 degrees )
DarienLaker
^ Were the "rafts" on Riptide run like two-person inner tubes or foam mats like the ones that were used for Rainbow Mountain and Cascade Canyon? Wasn't there a small kiddie wading pool in where Hook's Lagoon is now?

Seabreeze is Darien Lake's biggest competitor. It draws from half of DL's market. For Rochesterians, Seabreeze is the less expensive and closer-to-home option. DarienLaker
Here's a picture of the Hydro Force/Torpedo Rapids slides The Hydro Force/Torped Rapids picture was taken somtime before 1986 when it was on the lake. Here's a picture of Rainbow Mountain circa 1993, it's last of operation before it was removed for 'Cuda Falls Here's a picture of Cascade Canyon form 1993 What were the names of the Rainbow Mountain slides? anonymouscactus
^ Were the "rafts" on Riptide run like two-person inner tubes or foam mats like the ones that were used for Rainbow Mountain and Cascade Canyon They were not tubes or mats, they were long inflatable boat/rafts, with a bottom. I *think* they may have held up to 3 people, but maybe it was only two. They looked similar to this: http://www.lakewinnie.com/asapcms/media/graphics/ride_pipeline_plunge.png
DarienLaker
Did Pipeline Plunge used the same "rafts" as Riptide Run or did it use inner tubes like 'Cuda Falls?

cal1br3tto
^Seeing this thread reminded me of the Elitch Gardens announcement coming up in about a week...maybe they'll be on the same day. We do already have a fairly good idea of what the new Darien rides might be, though, right?
