Six Flags Darien Lake (SFDL) Discussion Thread

^This is exactly why i was asking. If the park has to invest to repair one train, how much do two new ones cost? Or how much do new updated restraints cost? Making ME more rideable could do alot for the park.

I don't think that the new restraints are just "plug and play", so new trains would need to be purchased either way. If that's the case, it could cost a good 25-50 thousand per train, maybe more. SLC's are usually cheaper than other models because of their high frequency in parks. So lets say new trains cost up to $150,000. Pair that with a paint job, and the coaster could be completely refurbbed for $250,000.

It is really nice to see Rolling Thunder is being worked on.

Also, I had this idea recently. Imagine if this were to happen. What would you folks think if Darien Lake bought theme rights to some of the brands related to internet memes (Valve (Game Developer), who ever sings the nyan cat and trololol songs, Slenderman). Also, there are memes that don't have anything copyrighted involved, so it would be good to use those as well. After that, the following. Ride Of Steel re themed to "Scout - Ride Of Bonk" (Like Scout from Team Fortress 2). Blast Off re themed to "Ima Firin Mah Laz-Or". Re theme Viper to Slenderman : The Ride. Re theme Boomerang to "Youtube Poop Mix-Up". Re theme Mind Eraser to "Smosh Smash". Re theme Predator to "Bigfoot's mean ride thingy" (Like the bigfoot guy from the Butchy Kid Productions videos). Re theme Lasso to "Heyaya" (Like that He-Man meme). Re theme Thunder Rapids to something involving Garry's Mod or Team Fortress 2. Re theme Silver Bullet to something Half Life 2 related. I guess Twister could be a Team Fortress 2 themed ride, could fit. Re theme Corn Popper to "How To Basic's Egg-Tastic Slammer" (Like the youtube channel HowToBasic). Re theme the Pirate to "Limeware LOL Cruise". Add a B&M flying coaster or a Zamperla Volare and theme it to Nyan Cat. Add a drop tower (like Falcon's Fury) and theme it to the Troll Meme. What do the bunch of you on this forum think?

^I really wish I could unread that. I really hope that was just a sarcastic satirical piece.

What Darien Lake needs is consistency. Consistency in the sense there is continuity in the management group operating the resort, and consistency in the sense that there is a definite long-term ownership group that can cooperate with the management group. Ideally one company is owning and managing the park, but that isn't always the case.

I don't think the meme thing would work since these meme's come and go and people totally forget about them. However I have always wanted to see a video game themed amusement park, and I think kids and adults would go bonkers for it if it ever happened (somewhere, someday).

I took a look at the map and I see they have renamed the "Niagara Frontier" area to "Thunder Road", but Viper is listed as being in the "Rowdy's Ridge" area despite the fact that it's technically in the "Thunder Road" area, but its exit is in "Rowdy's Ridge".

They didn't list any other entertainment venues/offerings besides Ignite the Night and places to buy tickets for PAC events on the map!

The Grand Theater and Gazebo stage are labeled on the map, so I'm sure there are plans involving those locations. The Galaxy has been left out though, so it looks like that will SBNO this season.

I just got a confirmation email for Season Pass holders preview day. They're only opening Thunder Road and Rowdy's Ridge. Does anyone connected with the park know how long they'll be open on May 8th? I'd rather not blow a vacation day on the Viper. I could be there by 4 PM if I worked a full day.

From CNL's earning statement it sounds like Elitch (or) and Darien Lake are in process of being sold.

"In March 2015.... and entered into an agreement to sell one of our attractions properties for $140 million and entered into a letter of intent to sell our unimproved land for $5.5 million"

Elitch and Darien were each bought for 110 million, and CNL doesn't have any other attraction anywhere near that value.

Although I would approve the sale of Darien lake because CNL isn't a theme park company. That isn't a grantee that they will sell it. If they do sell my concern would be to whom, and what their intent with the park is. I am rooting for HFE or Cedar fairs. Not so much for premier. One thing is for certain, and we all can agree on. It's that Darien Lake need many improvements.

I would really love someone to relight the Giant Wheel. That is one improvement I would love to see. A LED setup similar to Cedar Point's Giant Wheel. I hate that it's just this black dark spot at night, and I really think it doesn't do it justice.

My initial guess is that if they are selling a park or two, it would probably to HFE since they wanted DL in the first place. If that is the case, DL will be a great park in a while. I also would expect them to light the giant wheel along with building some very intricate and well themed rides.

Lets hope Dl is sold asap, an ownership change would do this park wonders, you know its gotten pretty bad when half the reviews by the GP on TripAdvisor are mostly about how run down and disgusting the place is!
