DarienLaker Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Well, I just went on DL's website, and the UFO is nowhere listed anymore. I wonder if it will not e operating this season. Hmm, maybe it's going to be SBNO this year, either that or they decided to scrap it!
DarienLaker Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Could Scrambler be coming back in where UFO was or in the former Galaxy Theater?
Philrad71 Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Good news....Anchor Bar chicken wings are coming to Darien Lake this year!!!! Courtesy News 10 - Rochester: We all know that people in Rochester and Buffalo love their Buffalo Wings. And now they can get them when they visit Darien Lake Theme Park this summer. Anchor Bar, the popular Buffalo restaurant, will be cooking up wings at their new location at Darien Lake. The new in-park location will open on the first day of the park's 2013 season on May 11. The new restaurant is just one of many changes coming to the theme park this summer. There will also be a new thrill ride called, Blast-Off; a new laser light show and new lakefront boardwalk area

ajfelice Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 As a chicken wing enthusiast myself, this looks like another good reason for a visit this season! Never had these wings before, but I hear good things. Good for Darien Lake to build up their park infrastructure will unique food options outside normal park food.
DarienLaker Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 ^^ *drools over Anchor Bar at Darien Lake teaser* oh boy, can't wait to go this year! On an unrelated note, Darien Lake should rename Ride of Steel as "The Enforcer" and repaint the coaster as red (tracks) and black (supports) along with some flame and fog effects!

Angle O. Descent Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 I always envisioned it as steel-grey with black supports. Hence, Ride of Steel
DougMJr Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 I thought it would have gotten a patriotic re-theme, which would have been perfect until... well you know.
DarienLaker Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 ^My idea is a better fit for Ride of Steel, It would give the ride some attitude and more of a better likeness than just being a "shell" of its former self (Superman)!
DarienLaker Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Since UFO isn't going to be at Darien Lake this year, I wonder what they're going to temporary replace it with (maybe Scrambler)?
SbSteveZ Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Over the winter Darien Lake has been horrible with posting pictures and keeping us up to date with ride construction. we get what? a picture a month? how can someone be excited to see the park change and hope for big surprises if nothing is really shown in the first place? i would love to see some shots of the new midway 50's theme, or hear about what Ignite the Night is going to be like/about more than just the paragraph on their website. all i envision is LaserBlast with a water screen and some fire with the way they have told us so little. In a time of such exponential technology and social media, you'd think they'd realize they need to keep us a little more updated... alright. done with my rant. Bring on the Blast Off!
DarienLaker Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 They were lazy about keeping us updated on recent park consturction via social media, what do they expect the GP to do go to the park when it opens and be surprised? It's not like they're keeping secrets about the boardwalk area remodel and the addition of Blast Off! and Anchor Bar. But I've heard that Viper might be getting new train decals and sign.
ViperLover Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 They were lazy about keeping us updated on recent park consturction via social media, what do they expect the GP to do go to the park when it opens and be surprised? That's exactly what they want.

DarienLaker Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 I would like to see Darien Lake get a Zonga-esque compact looping coaster to replace either the go kart track or Galaxy Theater Maybe they (Gerstlauer, Maurer Söhne, Mack, or Premier) could make a modern recreation of Zonga for Darien Lake!
bottom_feeder_13 Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Trying to recreate Thriller in the US with modern safety standards is akin to trying to paint the Mona Lisa with finger paints while in a straight jacket, it just can't happen.

It won't be that hard to recreate Zonga, they could just do layout of the ride! Frankly, I would think a Zonga-esque looping coaster would be a better fit for Martin's Fantasy Island! Darien Lake is better off getting a compact spinning coaster (Gerstlauer 380/4 model)!
netdvn Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Maybe if you offered to pay for these rides out of pocket, they'd be more than willing to take up your offer.
DarienLaker Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Maybe if you offered to pay for these rides out of pocket, they'd be more than willing to take up your offer. ^I wish! I was only making suggestions for a new coaster at Darien Lake in the future, but since I don't have the money (I'm broke!) to pay for the rides and have them be shipped to Darien Lake, I guess they won't take any of my coaster suggestions (Zonga clone,Gerstlauer 380/4 spinning coaster, and SFDK Superman clone) unless they can come up with the money to buy one of them (Sell Shockwave/Batman: The Escaspe!).
coasterbill Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 (Sell Shockwave/Batman: The Escaspe!). What is rust going for on the open market these days?
DarienLaker Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 ^ I don't know wouldn't rusted metal be considered scrap metal?

I don't think that Darien Lake would want to take ideas from some random person. They have special teams that come up with ideas that will make the park better. Building an old Schwarzkopf would be a mechanical nightmare, and may bring more controversy to the park than wanted.
