larrygator Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 I was never a fan of Bowie and am surprised so many of my friends in the non-TPR world were fans of Bowie. He's one artist I never recall any of my friends talking about. When you hang out with people for decades you think you know their musical tastes but apparently there were many closet Bowie fans in my circle.
I305forever Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 I miss Bowie already... (and so does Mick Jagger)
cfc Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 I was never a fan of Bowie and am surprised so many of my friends in the non-TPR world were fans of Bowie. He's one artist I never recall any of my friends talking about. When you hang out with people for decades you think you know their musical tastes but apparently there were many closet Bowie fans in my circle. I haven't given Bowie much thought since my college days. He was a very talented man, and I used to listen to two of his albums quite a bit: "Diamond Dogs" and "Young Americans." The former is a dystopian, apocalyptic sci-fi concept, while the latter is a "soul" album. That thing about Bowie is which Bowie are you talking about.
Philrad71 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 ^ So true...you never really knew what you were going to get from one album to the next. I wasn't what I would consider a huge Bowie fan by any means, but I do have a few of his CD's and certainly appreciated him for the artist that he was. If most of today's Billboard/radio music "stars" had half the talent that he did....I might just go back to buying more music and listening to more radio.
rubysparkles Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 I just realised I'm wearing a Bowie shirt in my avatar. I hope his death inspires people to learn more about his creative process and that he is remembered for his thirst for new ways of thinking and questioning the world.
thrillerman1 Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 NO NO NOOOO NOT BOWIE...my eternal teenager...he was supposed to outlive us all. My little glam rock and roll heart just died a good bit.
Garet Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Just saw Alan Rickman has died: http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-35313604 Been a bad week for childhood memories
Nrthwnd Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 ^ Oh noooooooooo. I loved Rickman in a lot of stuff besides Potter and the Diehard films. The Star Trek spoof Galaxy Quest was wonderful with him in it... "By Grabthar's hammer, by the suns of Worvan, you shall be avenged."
rcjp Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 So sad to hear.... I don't even know who was more unexpected, him or Bowie. God, looks like everyone is dying
I305forever Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I guess 69 us the new 27. So sad to se both Bowie and Rickman go. Labriynth and Die Hard are f*cking awesome.
Saldek Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Rickman was also a coaster fanatic. http://www.ew.com/article/2016/01/14/alan-rickman-best-quotes In 1991, Rickman told EW:“I’m like a child with a new toy. I’d like to take what I can from Hollywood, and whatever it is one wants to do in England, and put them together. I do feel more myself in America. I can regress there, and they have roller-coaster parks. My idea of a real treat is Magic Mountain without standing in line.”
cfc Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 ^Good to know that Alan Rickman was a fan of Flash Pass.
cfc Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 And then there were three . . . RIP, Dan "Grizzly Adams" Haggerty.
Nrthwnd Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 (edited) And now Celine Dion's husband Rene, has passed away at age 74. Actually, I'm thinking 69 and 74 are the new '27'. Edited January 16, 2016 by Nrthwnd
Philrad71 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Wow...this is just a crazy week! Grizzly Adams now? I used to love that show!
Nrthwnd Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Two days gone sine Rene's passing, and now Celine Dion's brother, Daniel, has succumbed to cancer. It's not fair. For anyone to go through, twice in as short a time as it was.
thrillerman1 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 I've never really understood the saying death comes in 3's...this has obviously not been the case here lately. Where does this saying come from? Oh and dear Angel of Death, you can take a break now.
Philrad71 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 ^ Man...what is going on here? Funny that I just had 'Smuggler's Blues' pop into my head for no unexplained reason why the other day! January 2016 is NOT off to a good start.
coasterkid124 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Unfortunately most of these singers are getting up there in age, and have mainly lived unhealthy lifestyles while younger. I have a bad feeling that we'll be seeing a lot more this year. It's a shame because I can relate to these musicians unlike what we have today. These are people who actually sang and used instruments instead of computerized effects.
cal1br3tto Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Mott The Hoople drummer [Dale] Griffin dies aged 67
Nrthwnd Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 ^ This is too much, and January's not even over yet!
cfc Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Well, may as well mention the death of Iron Mike Sharpe, "Canada's Greatest Athlete." Here's a video with two dead professional wrestlers: Iron Mike and Rowdy Roddy Piper.
