buttonman700
This past Saturday I was taken to our local hospital with bad chest pain and all the symptoms of a heart attack! I was admitted and after an angiogram, it was discovered I have some blockage and that this blockage can not be cleared with balloons or stints. So, now after days in I.C.U. I have been released, and am now on some serious meds, diet change (no more all you can eat for me! ), and very soon a new exercise program. I am grateful to everyone that was there for me the staff at the hospital and all my friends and family. With all this there was some talk of me not going on a trip Kasey, my wife, and I had been planning for some time to Disneyland in early April! We're still going, so far, and if we do go, we'd like to set a time to meet some of you TPR at the park some evening. Ed

Nrthwnd
Yikes! All it takes is having somebody a bit younger than myself, have one of these, to give one a real Reality jolt! I hope you're feeling better now and are doing everything the doctors are telling/advising you to do. And that you have good friends and loved ones near you for support, too. All the best for your speedy roller-coastin' recovery LOL!
Kalepi_Konei
I hope you have a speedy recovery. And like the guy a few posts above me said, "this is a good reminder on why we need to get and stay fit." I agree completely, the idea of a heart attack would seriously motivate me to get back in shape. I hope you do well mate.
alomar
I wish you a speedy recovery. My uncle just had two heart attacks in one day, and a quadruple bypass surgery. Thank fully he is ok. Take care of yourself, and have fun at Disneyland!!!!!
ebl
All the best to you, buttonman. I know first hand how serious medical conditions can be. Earlier tonight, I was having dinner at Souplantation when a guy had a seizure or heart attack, and they had to call the paramedics. They had been doing CPR on the guy for a long, long time till they wheeled him out. The guy had turned a bit gray in the complexion, which isn't good. cfc
An old friend of mine (a year younger than me) had a mild heart attack a few years ago and had the "balloon" treatment. He called me the day after he got out of the hospital, saying that I should have my cholesterol checked, which I did--it was high (it's OK now). I'm glad you're out of the hospital and doing better. buttonman700
Mine was a case of getting stuck in the fast track and neglecting my body. It's too easy to eat out, to grab a bag of chips, to sit by and do nothing. Well that's all a part of my past. We are going out to by a few supplies this afternoon, do a little walking around. Thank you all for the kind word. I feel better than I have in years. A little upset with my FORMER doctor, the signs were there and we both missed them. I'll keep you posted on my progress. TheRapidsNerd
Very glad you're on the mend and hope the lifestyle changes don't effect your coaster and park fun time to drastically.
ebl
"Mine was a case of getting stuck in the fast track and neglecting my body." (buttonman700) In my case, I allowed my diabetes to get out of control and found myself in the hospital for five days, three of those days in ICU. It is easy to let things get out of control. The trick, once after getting back on track, is to keep it going. That's hard work, but it pays off. Eric
darklingscribe
Glad to hear you're doing okay. The men in my family has a history of heart attacks. So three years ago when I found myself weighting in at 260lbs at age 22 I took action and have now reached my 190lb goal. Though losing the weight and changing my habits wasn't easy I do feel a lot better than I did even though at the time I was not yet at risk. I hope you are able to reach your goals, it's hard work but the quality of your life (more energy, fewer colds) will improve if you stick to it. FeelTheFORCE
Glad to hear you're ok! My dad went through a similar experience in the summer of 2007 and ended up getting bypass surgery. I can relate to what you and your loved ones are going through. The point of saying that is he has kept to his diet and exercise and now feels like he's 20 again! He's doing better than I've ever seen him. Good luck with your dieting and exercise!
printersdevil78
Ditto to what everyone else is saying. Suddenly, it's clear why TPR seems to be so against gravy buffets! Godspeed, Ed.
buttonman700
I have had a lot of time over the past two day to research sodium content in food! I am lucky to have not had this heart attack sooner! Sweat Martha! I'd like to share some of my finding with you all, if you're interested, I think you might be surprised how really bad some of the stuff we eat really is. Here the thing though, over these past few days I've been home, I have bee able to find foods that are lower in fat, and salt, and that tastes just as good. Thank you all for the kind words. ebl
One thing you'll never see in my hand is a salt shaker. There's already waaayyy too much sodium in our diets---why add to it? People need to learn about herbs and spices to flavor food. And using those makes food taste better than with salt anyway. Keep feeling better, Ed. All the best to you! Calicoasters
It looks like a lot of us have a health issue in common, I'm 24 and I'm already on the track to destruction! I started off this year with only a couple meals to go to being 300 pounds! It's crazy to think that about two years ago I was 220! I definitely need to put down the salt shaker... and the fork! It's getting the way of my hobbies! I barely fit on some one my favorite coasters!
ebl
^ I hope dearly that diabetes doesn't run in your family, because you're on the road to it. Not trying to be mean, but please work on getting your weight down---with your doctor if need be. For years, I kept my own weight in check by doing a lot of walking (it stayed in the 160-170 range; I'm 5'8" tall). But things in my life changed and getting out to walk was difficult, so my weight climbed to almost 220! And that's when the diabetes caught up to me. If you can, get some good walking shoes and hit the pavement! That's the nice thing about being near SFMM---a big park with lots of hills to climb, and a coaster or two to break the monotony! Calicoasters
^I'm not sure Diabetes runs in my family at all! I have been making some efforts recently. The last time I weighed myself (last week) I was down to 280. In fact after this post I think I just might go for a run! Unfortunately we are really busy this next month with plans almost every weekend and moving that we probably wont get back to SFMM until May! Let Ed's heartattack be a reminder to us all that we seriously need to take care of our bodies.
buttonman700
Health Food stores are a lie! We went out for the nightly do, a walk and then shopping for the NEW DIET. Well, we both thought a trip to the one heath food store we have in Salem would be a good place to go, surely they have low sodium choices. Well, we walk out with a half pound of unsalted nuts, a loaf of DAVE'S KILLER BREAD! and some Terra Chips, oh and some bottled water. I am now on a quest for a low sodium pasta sauce, or a recipe for one. Thanks again for the tips... I'll keep you posted on how things are going.
