PeoplemoverMatt Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Well, the good news is I can be at West Coast Bash. The not-so-good news is that I'll have to go row with the other slaves backstage from 7pm-3:45am that night, so I'll have to miss nighttime ERT. Still happy to be there for about 90% of the activities, and to be employed!
Big Mike Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Yes!!! I just found out some great news! The Big Mike Road Show 2009 will travel cross country to kick off the coaster season at West Coast Bash!!! Even better, Big Mike is bringing 35 prizes to give away to some lucky West Coast Bashers Details soon!!! Peace, Big Mike
sexyseniorcitizen Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 As far as I know I have registered and am good to go for my first ever WCB! With that said a couple of questions: Because I will have to leave a little bit early (say 4 or 5 PM), will there be any additional hoops or hurdles I will have to go through in order to leave the park before everyone else? Also, Some back round info so this question makes sense: If anything has changed from a few years ago when this was the prevalent general attitude toward ACE, let me know!! If I can recall correctly, there are two kinds of coaster geeks: 1.) The stereotypical obese, loud, obnoxious, rude, boisterous and the only thing they like more than coasters is food, aka the American Coaster Enthusiast (ACE) geeks. The kind that rightly or wrongly gives coaster geeks a bad reputation. (Before anyone goes off on me for dissing ACE'ers, keep in mind I'm a member of ACE myself!!) And then, there are the insurgent, renegade anti-ACE coaster geeks. Basically the ones who live semi-normal lives and wouldn't stand out of a crowd of people in a bad way. Which I assume is what TPR and Westcoaster members are like, generally speaking. Now with all of that said, I took a non-coaster geek friend of mine to Solace a few years ago and he witnessed what you would describe as the "stereotypical" ACE'ers and he was convinced that all coaster geeks have no teeth and have nothing in their wardrobe that is non-coaster related. So would it be wise to tell this same friend who is going with me to WCB that the kind of people who will be attending this event is NOT like the ones he saw at Solace?
robbalvey Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 ^ I always like to say you can see the differences CLEARLY in a group photo from ACE and a group photo from TPR. See if you can guess which one is which.... One group is more fun, one group is more serious. Not that there is a right or wrong to either of these, it's just a difference, that's all. Also keep mind, you will find some of the SAME PEOPLE in both groups, so it's not like we are saying you are either in one group or the other. But I would say there is a difference overall in the groups. IMO, TPR has always stressed that theme parks and this hobby are "fun" (it's part of the three things the site offers...Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, and FUN!) and some times you gotta just stop counting the bolts and talking about who designed what footers and DAMMIT just go RIDE and have a GREAT FREAKING TIME! And no hoops or hurdles if you have to leave early, but we'll miss you! --Robb ps. HEREwas our group photo from WCB 2008 to give you an idea.
georgeriley15 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Well said, Robb! A few other differences to note: Notice the difference in the average age of an ACE group and that of a TPR group. Also, an ACE group will have about 10%-30% of its members riding through the end of ERT, while a TPR group will have more like 90%-95% riding through end of ERT (see age difference-above). Hmmm, there's also the attitude difference (rigidity) that comes with age. I've witnessed a not insignificant number of ACE individuals with bad (IMO) attitudes towards others - including their fellow members. I have not seen this with the WCB crowd. All said though, ACE still has the advantage of offering more 1-day semi-local (west coast) ERT events per year than TPR, so I take the ecclectic approach and attend both (though I'm reluctant to wear any kind of ACE logos to events where people are familiar with the stereotype).
MasterGracey1995 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Did you get mine in the mail yet, I sent it on the 8th. I hope it isn't too late. I'm so excited!
Brun Fam Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 any chance of turning this one-day WCB ticket into a regular season pass? we'll be visiting LA all week and had planned to go multiple days up to SFMM. not that i mean to split hairs though - this WCB event is obviously a great deal for the cost. thanks.
Sir Clinksalot Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 ^ I believe this was answered on an earlier page, but to save you the trouble: Yes, you can upgrade your ticket to a Season Pass for the normal price it will cost to upgrade with a regular day ticket. I believe somebody said it would be $40 to upgrade if I'm not mistaken.
PeoplemoverMatt Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Yes, $40 to upgrade your ticket to a Season Pass once you're inside the park.
The Disneylander Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Hey, is it okay if we simply address checks to 'Theme Park Review' instead of 'Theme Park Review-West Coast Bash'?
G-Force! Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 WCB is less than a week away and I shall see you all there as well. It should be a lot of fun considering I haven't been to MM in a while and that it'll be my first WCB. Oh yea
The Disneylander Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Last question, I swear-if we're sending it by snail mail, where to we address it to?
robbalvey Posted March 16, 2009 Author Posted March 16, 2009 ^ The address is on the event flyer. --Robb
macca_boy69 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Can someone PLEASE in the Q&A Session ask if they are retheming Cyclone Bay. Its annoying me deeply BAHAHA Robby
PeoplemoverMatt Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 My guess is no on a retheme of Cyclone Bay. Frankly, it would take a lot of capital that could be put to other somewhat more productive uses, such as the renovation of bathrooms.
coasterjunkie91350 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Do any of you live in canyon country if so pm me so i can maybe get a ride if not its going to be 4 am when i get up to ride my bike all the way there lol
Monorail Man Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I finally got my ticket Ordered. Can't wait for my first WCB next week (and my first trip to SFMM in a couple of years)!
krnsngr85 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I finally got my ticket Ordered. Can't wait for my first WCB next week (and my first trip to SFMM in a couple of years)! OMG ME TOO I just ordered my ticket just a few minutes ago. This is also my First West Coast Bash. Its gonna be AWESOME!!! I CANNOT WAIT!! OMG!!! hehehe. (I am soo excited...and I just cannot hide it).
robbalvey Posted March 16, 2009 Author Posted March 16, 2009 LAST CALL FOR WEST COAST BASH TICKETS!!! Hey everyone! The response to this year's West Coast Bash event has been so overwhelming that we may actually NOT have tickets (or not have many) on the day of the event. We already have more than 500 people registered! (but don't worry there will still be enough ERT that you won't be waiting in any lines to ride) If you haven't registered for WCB 2009 yet, I strongly reccomend you do it now and pay with PayPal. Here's how to register: http://www.themeparkreview.com/store/index.php?categoryID=9 See you on the 22nd! --Robb Alvey
Crazy4Coasters! Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Just to give a heads up I checked the weather on weather.com and it shows a chance of showers for Sunday. I hope those clouds stay away from SFMM so let's keep our fingers crossed!
SharkTums Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 ^I saw that too, but I also never put much weight into a week out forecast! (Especially in SoCal, they always seem to predict the weather wrong!)
Crazy4Coasters! Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 ^ Very true especially when it shows only one specific day for "showers." The 10 day forecast shows great weather except for Sunday so that precipitation could move a couple of days ahead or before Sunday. The funny part is that I also checked accuweather.com and it has Sunday as cool with clouds and sun with 66 °F. It's a hit or miss with weather in So. Cal but I hope we keep it dry with nice temperatures and a bit of sunshine.
krnsngr85 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 thats weird hmmmmm. well I already got my ticket for sunday. thankfully I am very excited to go.
