Jew
Very solid/fair/accurate top 10 IMO. Had I remembered to vote, my ballot would have been very similar. Eagle's Fortress and the Mega-Lites are the real deal. AMAZING rides.
downunder
Those megalites sound great, from what I have heard they have all the airtime without having to build a 200 foot plus lift hill, the only criticism I have heard is that they are a bit short. I went on Vortex at Canada's Wonderland at night and that was absolutely insane, so it doesn't surprise me that Eagle's Fortress is rated so highly. Eagle's Fortress and the Mega-Lites are the real deal. AMAZING rides. Aha! So you were one of the TWO people needed for Kawasemi to qualify? Didn't Dave also not fill out the steel ballot? I'm actually quite dissapointed in some of our Asia travelers who didn't fill out the ballots. There are very few people in the world who have been on some of these coasters, and we had enough people on the TPR trips to help make them qualify. Hopefully next year they will see that their ballots DO count! --Robb
Fry
Wow, Behemoth right under Nemesis????? It's good, but not THAT good... I agree... but only if it's Nemesis that's not THAT good But, if it was up to me, Nemesis would be down somewhere near 300 , and Behemoth... well, I think I put that third I also didn't think Superman was a number one in the World coaster, at least not this year. The thing that gets me the most is Parque Warner in Madrid's Superman as the World's best Floorless!?! NO WAY! That thing sucked! Dominator and Medusa East were light-years ahead. And the other three Floorlesses I've done for that matter! And Nemesis Inferno above Talon makes me sad! That's all I see that really makes me thing "uh... WHAT?!" niiicolaaah
^Yeah well your whole poll makes me go "uh... WHAT?!" Nemesis #85 right under Dark Knight at SFGAd... Air dead last underneath G Force at Drayton Manor... Do you just have something against Alton Towers? Well I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. CPmaverick
I'm willing to bet we'll see a lot of pissed Cedar Point fanboys who are disappointed with Millennium Force's spot. I know it sounds crazy but I am happy with Millennium Force's spot. It really is an overrated coaster. MF is a top 15 coaster, not a top 5 coaster. I only wish Maverick was up higher. Seriously though...I'll just have to get started on it earlier next year, as I really just let the deadline pass without even realizing it the past few years. Wood Dragon 1988
My biggest WTFs are Behemoth and Evel Knievel. Never really thought Knievel had a chance to do that well. Behemoth is at least my personal fifth rated B&M, behind Goliath, Griffon, AC and Nitro. It was good, but I don't think it could possibly the 7th best in the world, and definitely not top B&M. This poll rules though. Intamin had 5 of the top 10 steels and 5 of the top 10 woods. Amazing for them.
viking86
I also didn't think Superman was a number one in the World coaster, at least not this year. Got a chance to visit the US this year and I definately agree with you on that point. It just seemed like it was designed to run faster. I found both Storm Runner and Nitro to be way better rides. Seems like it might have had a 'bad season'.... My biggest WTFs are Behemoth and Evel Knievel. Never really thought Knievel had a chance to do that well. Im not surprised to see EK and Thunderbird so high on the list. They are identical coasters and Thunderbird was absolute flying in 07. Its probably my second favorite wood coaster after El Toro. Should be higher in my opinion, cause I think I like it even better than Phoenix and Dash, although it is a close race.

Air dead last underneath G Force at Drayton Manor... Do you just have something against Alton Towers? Well I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. Haha, no! I love Alton, Oblivion and Rita are some of my favorites in this country. They were both very high up in my poll! For me, it's that Air and Nemesis just plain suck, lol! I can't think of a coaster duller than Air, and it cuts into my neck and presses my shoulder bones which I find VERY uncomfortable - a problem I had with Superman Ultimate Flight as well. Then Nemesis beats me up pretty bad and I find it pretty damn forceless. I just always come off like "uh... WHAT?!? That was crap and my ears hurt!" At least G Force entertains me while strangling me to death via my hips! Though I don't pretend to be anywhere near a majority on anything! It just seemed like it was designed to run faster. I found both Storm Runner and Nitro to be way better rides. Seems like it might have had a 'bad season'.... Mmmm... yes, I LOVED Nitro and Storm Runner. I preferred a LOT to Superman, but it's still a top twenty ride for me. I just don't really 'get' Intamin ejector... I don't 'get' the whole appeal of it? The only Mega I've really, really, really loved was WW's Goliath, which is still my favorite steel in the World. Apart from that, give me B&M floater any day! It's just a lot more fun, and that's why I ride coasters, they're fun. I just find Intamin ejector rapes my hip bones more than anything!
Mike Austin
The top 10 for woodies is very solid in my opinion, although I might switch round El Toro and Boulder Dash. (That's some TPR trip bias working there, eh! I reckon that if we did Boulder Dash ERT in the morning but El Toro ERT in the evening, I'ld probably be ranking Toro higher) However, I've got no idea what Aska is doing up there. I've never really heard of it before anyway, I never here anybody raving on about it and I don't think I've seen it ranked that highly in any polls before, so how does it then become number 7 in apparantely the "most respectable coaster poll there is"? The Steel results, however, are very odd. Superman as the BEST steel coaster in the WORLD??? Also, I've been hearing nothing but Nemesis is getting rougher and rougher this year, yet it still breezes in at 6??? Storm Runner as the 23rd best steel coaster in the world... Errr, I don't think so! Same goes with Volcano at 55??? Did nobody else experience the chairs-of-ultimate-crapness this year, or did I just sit in a "speshal seat" I could probably go like this all down the list, but I think you people catch my drift... gotdane
I'm happy Voyage is still the #1 Woodie in the US! I'm not sure a SBNO should be counted...but that's purely cause I would've like to have seen Thunderhead in the Top 10! The Steel poll results are pretty interesting. Maverick should be above MilF and I'm not sure why SheiKra is so high or even above Montu.
Wood Dragon 1988
Maverick is WAY above MF in my opinion, but at least MF fell out of the top 10 this year. I have a really coaster dorky question maybe someone here can answer. On Piraten and Kawesemi, how good are those series of three "twisting hills" in the middle of the ride. They look fantastic, but I am wondering if there is airtime on them?
SharkTums
^They're amazing! If you ever could imaging what extreme skiing would be like, those hills are it. Crazy ejector air from side to side...ugh, I miss it!!! We need one in the States NOW!!!!!
gotdane
^That's part of what I like a lot about Thunderhead...all the pops of air going into the turns. Craziness.

They look fantastic, but I am wondering if there is airtime on them? I can only speak for Kawasemi, but it was amazingly insane, twisting airtime on EVERY hill!! It's also quite easy to say that Kawasemi has more airtime than the entire state of Ohio. (Sorry, but true.) JJ
Wood Dragon 1988
Wow that ride must be sick then. I'm even more mad about droping Scandi now. I would imagine those hills would be a little like the third to last hills on DL's or SFA's Superman. Probably a little better I guess.

downunder
What I like about the Megalites is that they are kick ass ride that wouldn't cost that much for a park to put in. We could realistically even get one down here but the parks all seem obsessed with second rate, er I mean second generation booster bike style coasters. DBru
I'm just amazed that Powder Keg is continually rated as low as it is... (PK is definitely one of the most underrated coasters EVER!)
texcoaster
There are very few people in the world who have been on some of these coasters--Robb Surely you meant to say that there are very few Mitch Hawker Poll-taking people in the world who have been on some of these coasters.... I'm sure that LOTS of people have been on these rides. Thousands, even!
robbalvey
^ No, no. I meant what I said. Most of these parks only open the coasters one day out of the year and we always schedule our visits on that day. In fact, I believe Everland has ONLY opened Eagle's Fortress on the day we are there and in fact closed it to the general public on our day, so for the year of 2008, the ONLY riders were the TPR members! Same thing with Atlantis Adventure and Kawasemi. Korea and Japan have some very strict maintenance laws and each of those coasters has to be totally demolished and re-built from scratch every year so there are only about 6 operating days (if you're lucky) which you can ride each one. I'm pretty sure there not many more people than the ones who have taken the Mitch Hawker poll have ridden these coasters. I absoultely meant what I said. No need to try to correct me. --Robb
Medusa1861
I'm disappointed in this poll. TPR so screwed everything up. Excalibur at #261??? I'm not sure if people care too much at the rankings after top 10, but really, I felt this ride was short but very sweeet. That's the only ride I thought was misplaced. I feel, that this coaster deserved to be around 155, I'd be satisfied, since I know that Excalibur for me is that one coaster that I love that many people don't care too much for. The other rides that I ranked, I felt were "close enough" I don't like the Intamin plug-n-play woodies but I understand why people love them so much, so when I read the top woodies, I pretty much ignore them and see that Boulder Dash (my #1) is (in my count ignoring the Intamins) #2, only to a woodie i never rode; I'm satisfied. But really, how is Wild Thing rated higher than Excalibur? Excalibur needs the "TPR bump" but I don't know how they could even plan a trip there since there aren't many parks for miles. Yeah, i just felt like being the one person to complain about a coaster ranked farther down than #
therooboy
Once again Eejanaika is given little love in the poll. #246 compared to X2 up to #28. At least this year X had something new to validate the huge discrepancy. I actually prefer Eejanaika to X (i haven't ridden X2 yet). Another of my favorites is Australia's Superman Escape at Movie World. While still a repectable #35 I think it would be rated higher if/when you guys come downunder & give it a ride. On the otherhand Luna Parks Scenic Railway in Melbourne is ranked way too high for me to understand. It is my homepark & is the only coaster beside a wildcat & kiddy coaster in the state at the only park in the state. Yet i would rate it near the bottom of the list. It was historically great (and is heritage listed) but as a coaster ride in the last 10 years it ranks down near The Grizzly at Great America as being a snoozefest. Great view of the beach & park, but it is really slow for almost the entire ride.
