Six Flags Fiesta Texas (SFFT) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

IRAT came on the Dallas news tonight (WFAA) and my parents went all GP on me. My dad now insists that every coaster needs seatbelts.

Nevertheless, I should be headed to SFFT next week to get my first ride on Iron Rattler, and I'm ever so excited. I'll see if I can report anything.

Good to see that it re-opened. I'm a little angry at the belts, but if they really need them, then go for it. If they're just there to appease the GP I'm a bit angry, but this is certainly the most fail-proof way to keep any more ejections from happening (along with being an indicator of whether your body fits in properly, it could also keep an improperly restrained rider in the seat.) While having the ride ops check more closely for a dangerous situation could work, the seat belt, like it or not, provides an extra layer of safety. As long as the ride is running, it's better than if its closed.

On another note, I'm afraid of the GP. In the sense that they will force manufacturers to make coasters with stapling OTSRs and/or seatbelts. Imagine if the GP somehow end up forcing ride manufacturers shipping to America to install seatbelts (say goodbye to B&M hyper restraints as we know them) and restricting the intensity of coasters. I'm already angry at the GP's loopy-loop obsession that has meant that parks are forced to choose the SLC over the Mega-Lite. Now, I'm worried that they'll force more restrictive restraints. I really think that the GP they should understand that coasters are one of the safest forms of recreation and you are more likely to be killed driving to the park (this is actually one of the first facts I go to talking to people that are afraid of coasters.)

Also, let me say one more thing related to park safety. While you have an extremely tiny chance of being killed on a coaster, I would say the chances of being ejected due to a failing restraint make the chance of being killed in some other way on a coaster look huge. These restraints are designed (correct me if any technicalities are wrong here) with seatbelts (either the lap belt or the shoulder bar backup belt), backup locking mechanisms, and so on. And while the seat belts decrease the already tiny chance of ejection, the restraints - seatbelt or not - will not release and are perfectly fine as long as they are used properly.

I haven't ridden either of the Rocky Mountain strawberry-flavored fruit chew coasters, so I don't know this. Are the lap bars ratcheting (click-click-click) or hydraulic?

Could it be Gerstlauer went to the park today to investigate the NTAG trains? Makes me wonder since you said the employees were calling back and forth either they arrived yet... hmmm....

Sorry, I guess I should have clarified. It was just a guy. A guest. He was walking to the Titan in a group in front of us, he saw the security guy watching from the station and asked if the "Germans" had come yet. It was quiet all day there. Except for the occasional changing of the guard. That's it.

Went on the "safer" Iron Rattler a couple times tonight. Trust me, it hasn't lost any of it's force with the new seat belts. I still got all the airtime I used to. A few changes I have noticed though. They have a bunch of "how to ride" signs up now. Even added some much needed fans in the line which is nice. I noticed the ride Op's really emphasizing "Please make sure your hands are up so our ride op's can check your harness" a bunch. The dispatching time was still quick, not AS quick. But still dispatching as soon and the other train has arrived. I could really tell the ride op's were much more focused on making sure everyone was securely in their seat. Make of that what you wish. Other then that, same great ride as it was before!

For more information, please call the Entertainment Office at (210) 697-5483. Applicants must arrive through Gate 4 (adjacent to VIA bus drop off) at 6:45 p.m. and go through the Front Gate. There will be a representative to direct applicants into the Picnic Grove.

I went to the park yesterday. Operations on Iron Rattler were a little slower because of the seatbelts, but not too bad. I really like the way they designed the belts. There is a small bright orange loop that sticks out from the belt so that the ride ops don't have to go fumbling around in people's laps to see if it is buckled. Lines were very light. I rode everything I wanted within an hour and a half, including multiple rides on iRat. Park was very clean, too. All in all, it was a great day at the park.

I rode once today cause I just had to get an iRat ride in and waited 45 minutes. Seat belts were not noticeable. As for a comment about the tunnel lights a few posts before, they change slowly now. They were blue when the train I was on went through.

Honestly I don't think that I've ever been to SFFT on a day where a flash pass seemed necessary aside from the notoriously busy times of year like Spring Break, 4Th of July, etc. On a typical operation day, lines don't really get that bad. Especially not this time of year when most kids are going back to school. Every time I've been on Iron Rattler, the wait has been less than 30 minutes.
