Is it just the angle of the photos or does the first drop not look quite as "beyond vertical" as some of the other installations?

It's only 90 degrees, it doesn't go beyond vertical. It's actually quite hard at the moment to get a side shot of the drop. I'll take a walk around to see if there's a better angle.

Based on the exit of the first drop I'm very interested to see what will follow it. I don't think it's going to immediately climb up to a turn around like the other El Locos. An airtime hill would be great!

One thing I noticed over the weekend, a storage container is now at the location where the track is being stored before installation, so possibly a couple of the cars may have arrived!

Thanks for the constant updates John! They are really moving along quickly with this. Can't wait to check it out.

At the pace they are building, I wouldn't be surprised if it opened sooner. Unless we get another undertow situation...

They still targeting December/January, according to their Facebook page.

It will be ready this winter (Dec/Jan) It is a moving target and as dates become more firm we will let everyone know!

And they posted a new interesting pic :

As we could have guessed, the lift will cross over the drop. But look at the left, an inversion is likely to be put here.

^Just looking at those support connections to the left of the drop, I wonder if there'll be some speed control there - it looks like it's really tight at the top coming out of being upside down, like on a Screaming Squirrel, vertical for a bit and then it bottoms out.

This might be my favorite construction process to follow, because we don't know anything about this ride - and on top of that, these El Locos can pretty much do anything.

I just went and had a look about an hour ago. Took some photos, but nothing new to what's already posted. That drop looks pretty killer. They certainly cover up most of the Frightdome stuff well during the day.

^ Hope you had fun, too bad I didn't know you were at the park or else I would have said hi.

No speed control there.

Good afternoon everyone! Here's an update from today at the park. Construction is trucking right along. And only two nights left of Fright Dome and the park being closed part of next week. We may see some great progress as even with the park open they have been doing a lot of work in the off hours. Enjoy!

El Loco is clearly visible from the main entrance of the park now!
