robbalvey
Wow, this is by far my favorite speculation of a TPR trip! I really can't wait to get on one of these! I'm assuming that you meant "debate" not speculation? Otherwise I'm not sure what you meant. --Robb

robbalvey
And I miss Dragon Bar. Dragon Bar was also overhyped by a mini-europe participant... a.k.a. Lou. I would like to point out that if Dragon Bar had worked as it had LAST year, it would not have seemed as overhyped! Hell, even I hated it that first night this year, and yes, I was its biggest fan last year! As I said on the trip, I think the problem is that this year, there were so many of us, and so many other people, and the bar service was SO bad that night, that it just destroyed the atmosphere. Yeah, I was bummed about this too. I don't recall having any problems with service when we were there in 2005 or 2006, but yeah, on those years we were pretty much the only people in the bar. --Robb
Louise
Service at the Dragon Bar was not very good last year either. See, I had no problems with the service last year, but to be fair, I didn't really go to the bar much, I mostly had drinks given to me (LOL, I have no idea why!!), or threw money at Robb and/or Hector and/or whoever else I was drinking with, and then they went to the bar! robbalvey
^ Yeah, I'd say last year we had to wait...but no longer than at my local TGI Friday's when it's busy. 10 minutes maybe? We also stocked up on drinks last year, 2 per person minimum so we didn't have to keep going back to the bar. --Robb
SteveC
The Dragon Bar needs to rein back on it's liberal measures and perhaps not be so enthusiastic at 2:00 a.m and after. They could up the ante a tad at 9:00 pm when realising they were overwhelmed with TPR. Actually they had closed the downstairs bar (the first night and the one serving the restaurants) so those crazy waiting staff were also using elevator power to serve the whole hotel....talk about dumb waiter?? Were we partly to blame for that? Lou - the Dragon Bar somewhat exceeded my expectations once we were settled in. IggyACE
Schlossbeck was by far the best surprise for me on the trip! Also one of the WORST experiences for me on the trip. 1. NEVER think it is a good idea to push two grown men around on a tire swing/teeter totter. 2. NEVER think it is a good idea to listen to a grown man to slap hands as he spins around on said tire swing/teeter totter. 3. NEVER get to close to slap hands with grown men that can't control where their feet are on tire swing/teeter totter or your nuts will pay the price for a good laugh!!! 4. Never think it is a good idea to give your kids 1 euro for self operating cart. It is a good idea when said kids run over someone to look the other way and pretend you don't know them! robbalvey
Day 9, Part 1 - Tripsdrill TPR says "Thank you Tripsdrill for an awesome day!" This year on the car ride, Robb and his giant camera attachment smoked everyone! MORE BOOBS!!! I love Europe! Piers and the Hoffman Girl ride the bizarro basket ride...but on closer inspection what is that we see? Another KidTums approved credit! Cannot forget the giant windmill slide of death! I just *know* I've seen that somewhere before! Tripsdrill had a rapids ride! The art on the wall of the restaurant was...um.... "interesting?" Lunch was pretty awesome...but we wish Morgan was here to translate the menu. Yay! KidTums gets a bunny credit! Hanno on the "Wobbly Bike!" "NO!!!!! NOT THE HAIR!!!!" Oh, yeah you get good and wet too! Ok, she makes up for the old saggy nastiness. Ok, so maybe a lot of them are old hag saggy boobs, but still...BOOBS!!! A room full of BOOBS!!! Ahh, the famous "Bathtub Log Flume." And what makes it famous? "What? She's had a GREAT personality!!!" Chris got the old hag!!! This one requires you to climb a ladder and one of many characters pop out. Robb got the pretty girl! Tripsdrill has lots of these little "display" type of attractions. Guess what? Chicken butt! Not sure why Tim is plugging his ears, but look at the position of his lanyard!!! "I just love what you've done to your hair!" Or this one! ...you may not have seen faces like this one! For those of you who remember our updates from last year you may remember the drop tower. If you not then... Thank you Norman for helping make some of our favorite rides! What could be in that tunnel??? Snakes? Trolls? JOEY?!?!? It's twisty, curvy, and smooooooth...just like Elissa! Although we are all giddy like schoolgirls while riding! As a ride for the park it's perfect, but for coaster enthusaists, the expressions say a lot. Would you like a little first drop with that sandwich? Super UBER NERD SHOT!!! NERD Shot!!! Lots of happy faces. A little bit of lift hill porn for you! Mammut was an "interesting" ride. Clearly you can see that everyone in the picture is having fun, but at the same time the ride was kind of a let down for some of us. It's a pre-fab woodie like Colossos at Heide Park, and looks a lot like Troy at Toverland. But it rides far more like a "family" coaster with very little airtime or forces throughout the ride. It's VERY smooth, which is awesome, but I think for the size of the ride we all expected something a little more thrilling. Oh, yes! There is a new ride here too...Mammut! This is the first woodie built by pre-fab manufacturer "Ingenieur-Holzbau Cordes" (same guys that built the track for all of Intamin's pre-fab woodies) "Robb as a thank you for not killing any riders, we present you with this official Tripsdrill bank made out of an old coaster wheel!" (BTW, you can buy the coaster wheel clocks and banks at the ride's station...we highly reccomend them!) Flowers and airtime. What a joyous combination! Tripsdrill is so beautifully landscaped you almost don't even notice the coaster. Guys...you're only on the LIFT HILL!!!! Stop freaking out! The first drop sends you straight to HELL!!!! G'sengte Sau is filled with awesome airtime and fun. And if you can pronounce the name of the coaster you get fifty bucks from Dan! Today the role of Ride Operated will be played by yours truly! Be nice or you don't get to ride. Be REALLY nice and you get DOULBE rides!
Nrthwnd
Man, we're a sexy-lookin' tour group! Great stuff on Tripsdrill, Robb. It's a pretty, landscaped park that has a few really great wtf-omg attractions here and there. I really enjoyed just strolling through it all, when getting to the rides. Tripsdrill was me and Jon/flossy's Canada Day park, on the tour. Of course, we went to Holiday Park the same day, but Tripsdrill was a nice start to Canada Day. (And Holiday park was the FIREWORKS, to end it LOL.) I got a free glass! And bought some wine to put in it, lol. (Actually, everybody got the free glass, but it was still nice to get it on that day.) Ryancrash
Tripsdrill was indeed a beautiful park - some of the best landscaping / scenery of the entire trip I thought. That log flume was a hoot! (Rub-a-dub-dub, SIX men in a tub!) The tree drop tower actually surprised the hell out of me (in a good way). I even enjoyed Mammut. As a coaster enthusiast, I think it's real easy to get spoiled on coasters like "Kentucky Rumbler", for example - we see other new woodies of a similar size, and expect them to deliver the same kind of thrills. And I don't think that's really what Tripsdrill was going for with Mammut. Mammut was certainly a more family-oriented ride, but what it does, I think it does quite well. It's certainly smooth, which is always good in my book (let's not forget this was the first woodie we rode after Bandit!) - and I thought the tunnel was great. A bit more speed would have been nice, but just the same, I liked Mammut for what it was. I should also note this was the day Ivan bought the water pistol! That ended up providing quite a bit of unexpected entertainment. I'll never forget coming down the "giant slide of death inside the windmill" and getting a faceful of water at the bottom! Too damn funny... And Robb - thanks for not killing or maiming any of us on G'sengte Sau! You are now hereby promoted to operate a bigger coaster... Tripsdrill was great, yet another gem of a park from Germany. I seriously need to spend more time in this country!!
coasterking2981
Great TPR! Though, knowing that GCI has not released any designs yet, I guess me and all other coaster enthusiasts in California can expect Six Flags Magic Mountain's new Terminator wooden coaster to be a clone of Mammut or something similiar to it? With Mammut seemingly to be a more family friendly coaster, and Mark Shapiro making Six Flags more family oriented, it seems to me that a Mammut clone would be the best choice. coaster05
Yep Rapids and NO wetness on back to back rides. I really wish I could have felt better on this day. this place had a lot of great attractions, but I just wanted to sleep.
ginzo
Mammut was certainly a more family-oriented ride, but what it does, I think it does quite well. I don't know about that, Ryan. Holiday World promotes themselves as THE family park. And what kind of coasters do they feature? Three very aggressive woodies, including The Voyage, which is as aggressive as it gets. I think they could have safely turned up the juice on Mammut a bit.

If Mammut is unbalanced due to not being aggressive enough I think Voyage is equally as unbalanced on the other end of the spectrum. When I think of the "perfect family woodie" that has a low height restriction and is loved by enthusiasts and general public alike, delivers a smooth but thrilling ride and can pretty much be ridden by anyone, I think of Phoenix at Knoebel's. --Robb
