Tusenfryd Discussion Thread

TusenFryd has now released Project Mjølner on their official web page.

http://www.tusenfryd.no/no/Praktisk-info/Nyhet-2013-Prosjekt-Mjoelner

In the Mountain-hall, or dragon head as some call it, opened the attraction Viking expedition in 1995. This was an elaborate multimedia-ride after the time standards and after the 2008 season was over the expedition went out of service. We sat long in the box thinking, and considered many plans back and forth, and in 2013 will finally see the fruits of this!

Project Mjølner

This will be the biggest indoor venture in TusenFryd's 25-year history! We open a new, spectacular and tailored Attraction shrouded in the mystery of norse mythology . You will take part in the latest in ride technology unique for TusenFryd and Europe. There will be advanced 3D, interactivity and excitement from start to finish. Currently, we only have sketch drawings (see above) that we can show you, but the activity in the Mountainhall is booming and will continue intensively throughout the Winter.

On this page we will keep you updated on our progress, and already now you can see some pictures from the cave where our new dark ride will open in May 2013.

Here are the pictures from the gallery on the page:

This is something Tusenfryd really needs--looks like a good mix of 3D projections and physical sets and effects (at least from what I can see on the concept art). The old attraction in that building was fun, and I was sorry to see it go, but this is shaping up to be a great replacement.

The ride is inspired by the Spider-Man Ride at Universal

I just found this article :

http://www.parkworld-online.com/news/fullstory.php/aid/2358/P_P_designs_new_dark_rides.html

The Dutch design firm P&P Projects is currently working on plans for as many as seven dark rides in Europe and the USA – including a 3D adventure for Tusenfryd in Oslo, Norway.

“For years rides like Spider-Man were beyond the reach of many parks because of the cost,” notes P&P founder Philipp van Stratum. “The falling price of technology has made these kinds of attractions much more affordable and we can confirm that the budget for Tusenfryd is a fraction of what was paid for Spider-Man all those years ago; however we have still aim to put the bar very high.”

The park’s owner, Parques Reunidos is quoting an investment of €6.5 million for the attraction, working title Mijolnir. The “baby” of Tusenfryd director Bjørn Solli Havard, the experience will not be interactive, partly because the park already offers such an experience in its Alterface ‘5D’ Haunted House.

P&P will provide turnkey theming and content. The storyline will be based around rich Norse mythology, as riders go to battle with the Hammer of Thor. The content will be delivered as a mix of 3D and 2D media across 11 scenes, complemented by various theming – but no animatronics.

“If you’ve got good content on screen, you don’t really need any moving figures as it only distracts from the rest of action,” observes van Stratum. “We hope that this ride will be like an action movie brought to life!”

The project will open in May 2013, and bring new life to cave-like building that housed a older Viking ride which had stood idle for several years.

Can someone provide a little info about the existing attraction Alterface 5D Haunted House? When was it built and where is it located in the park? I don't recall this attraction from my last visit in 2009.

^Around the 35 second mark in the video Branson is referenced in the old neswpaper

That Nightmare ride looks like a lot of fun. I remember in 2009 the haunted walk through wasd closed, glad they got a fun replacement.

The video is made for the Branson version of the ride

L.A Times wrote this about the new attraction:

A new motion simulator-based dark ride that tells the story of Norse gods and mythical monsters with 3-D scenes and special effects is set to debut at a Norwegian theme park this summer.

Drawing on Nordic mythology, the $8.5-million Thor's Hammer dark ride will open in May at Tusenfryd, a Parques Reunidos theme park located in Oslo, Norway.

Code-named Prosjekt Mjolner, the new four-minute dark ride will feature interactive elements, fire and wind special effects and 3-D computer-generated imagery projected on 10 movie screens.

Set at the time of the Norse gods, Thor’s hammer (known as Mjolner) has been stolen by the evil god Loki. Riders are sent on a mission to catch Loki and recover the hammer. Traveling through a forest, river, cave, castle and the battle of Ragnarok, riders will encounter scenes of Loki as a wolf, a sea serpent and a dragon.

Dutch design firm P&P Projects describes Thor's Hammer as an "action movie brought to life," comparing the ride experience to the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando, Fla.

Thor's Hammer is expected to feature the newest dark ride vehicle from ETF Ride Systems, a rolling, pitching and rotating trackless motion simulator presented at the 2012 International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Expo in Orlando.

Designed for teens and young adults, the "thrilling and scary" Thor's Hammer will reuse the cave-like Toktet dark ride building that has stood idle for several years.

I seriously can't wait to try this one out in the summer!

Always wanted to try one of the big dark rides in the world, and if this will be similar to Spiderman, then that's good enough for me!
