Oryp Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 It isn't as good as the Tickler in Coney Island because it doesn't spin the entire ride I'm pretty sure The Tickler and Ragin Cajun run identical ride cycles, with the spinning only in the second half.
Donkey123 Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 On the Tickler you'll actually start some spinning at the top and go down the two drops facing different directions. Ragin Cajun doesnt do any of that, same ride just different ride experiences.
Donkey123 Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 That video was probably taken when it first opened or around that time and then they wanted to change the ride a little so they added the spin at the top (Zamperla does that a lot to there rides at the park). I ridden the Tickler multiple times, my last being October.
Brassinthegrass Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I'm having a dilemma. Due to a unscheduled trip to Busch Gardens back in April, my 100 roller coaster is going to be at Six Flags America in July! Any thoughts on which coaster at the park should take the title? I was thinking Apocalypse since it was B&M's first roller coaster... Thoughts?
Password121 Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Mind Eraser, because it has almost no historical significance whatsoever. And it sucks. In all seriousness, Apocalypse (for the reason you mentioned), Wild One (a classic), or Superman--one if the first hypers of the new millennium (might actually be the first post-2000). Any is a solid choice.

Any thoughts on which coaster at the park should take the title? I was thinking Apocalypse since it was B&M's first roller coaster... Thoughts? OMG Wild One. !!! All the way. Personally Ride Of Steel is my fave at the park but Wild One might be what I think is one of the most criminally underrated coasters period. It's a really great ride for being so old and at a SF park, for some reason they take care of it. I rate very highly. It has decent to great airtime throughout the ride, some crazy unexpected laterals and the double helix is totally bonkers. And to top it off it's historically significant or whatever. Sit in the back. Also, you should do this because Apocalypse sucks.
michaellynn4 Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Great Chase. Seriously, I've never actively tried to make particular coasters a milestone coaster. Something so trivial just isn't worth even a nominal bit of effort. That's how I get Flying ACE Aerial Chase as my 100th and Great Chase (SFNE) as my 150th. It's more fun that way, just let it be whichever you happen to be by next!
Donkey123 Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I would do Wild One because of being so historical and being also a great ride, Apocalypse sucks and one of the worst coasters at the park with head-banging out of this world. Superman wouldn't be that bad of a choice either, if you want more thrill to that 100!
certifiedcoastergeek Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Is this park safe to take nieces/nephews ages 9-14? (Just wondering, owing to the park's generally "ghetto" rep.)

Any thoughts on which coaster at the park should take the title? I was thinking Apocalypse since it was B&M's first roller coaster... Thoughts? No debate here. Gotta do Wild One. 100th coaster on an almost 100 year coaster. Careful not to ride Bourbon Street Fireball as a warm-up or whatever..lol..they consider that a coaster; you'll then have to consider that your 100th . Now, u absolutely 'should' ride the fireball while you are there. IMO, it's an excellent ride!
Highridin Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Mind Eraser was pleasant compared to Apocalypse. Yeah, I'm one of the few who like Mind Eraser. First or second seat FTW! Apocalypse sucks bad. I want to like it, but just can't.
Password121 Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 (edited) Is this park safe to take nieces/nephews ages 9-14? (Just wondering, owing to the park's generally "ghetto" rep.) You already asked a very similar question a few days back--the answer is still absolutely yes, just as safe as any regional theme park. Anyone who answers otherwise hasn't visited since ~2007. Mind Eraser was pleasant compared to Apocalypse. Yeah, I'm one of the few who like Mind Eraser. First or second seat FTW! Apocalypse sucks bad. I want to like it, but just can't. I've had some decent rides on both, but mostly just terrible experiences with headbanging (and some insane shuffling on Mind Eraser). If I had to choose one, I'd ride Apocalypse--although both are in the bottom five coasters I've ridden. Edited June 17, 2015 by Password121

The ghetto rep is given by those that haven't been here in years. I'm guilty. I was saying the same until I went back in 2012. Very family friendly. Give it a try.

Also, how crowded will the park be on a Saturday in July (just curious)? Would I be able to ride the unique rides (Superman, etc.) if I arrived around 4 and stayed until 7-8? I've been on Flight of Fear (the Joker's Jinx template), far too many wild mouse coasters, and on enough B&M standups to swear them off for life.
Highridin Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 In my experience, it will be a little more crowded than it would be earlier in the day. People will be finishing up in the water park, then coming over to the dry side. Still, you will not have too long a wait for each ride. They'll run two trains on the rides you mentioned.

I want to like it, but just can't. If you compare those coasters to other coasters, they don't even come close to even being decent, Apocalypse is so cool looking, but has so much head-banging, you just want to try and like it. Mind Eraser, I can see how you can like it since it is fairly intense and a little fun, but it also has some head-banging and isn't even close to an experience like a B&M invert would give you.
coasterbill Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I'm a big Wild One fan but it's significantly better in a non-wheel seat so I'd suggest sitting in the middle row of the back car for the best ride. Apocalypse, Roar and Mind Eraser are horrific.

I want to like it, but just can't. I think I've just built up a tolerance to SLC's after spending so much time over the years @ Morey's. I understand why they get a bad rap but its kind of a you-rode-one-you-rode-em-all thing. As long as you know the layout and what to expect you can ride defensively and enjoy a fairly intense ride.
Donkey123 Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 ^ I get where you're coming from, I always have to play some defense when I am on Thunderhawk at Dorney. I know the layout so much and I know where it whips you around that it isn't bad at all, and actually a very fun ride especially in the front.
dakota381 Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Hello all, just a quick run down on SFA. My hubby and I were there last week with my teenaged sister and 8 y/o stepdaughter. Crowds were light, ops were ok. Could've been better but not terrible. They were only running 1 train on everything every day we were there. (Sun, Wed, Thurs, Fri) The water park was decent but became incredibly crowded mid afternoon. Hubby and SD spent more time over there than Sis and I. BTW, Hubby doesn't do coasters so, he spent even more time at the water park catching rays. Ride reviews; Mind Eraser beat the crap out of me so much, I couldn't bring myself to get back on and try again. (we rode center train) Apocalypse wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Just a couple bangs to the side of the head. We rode in the 2nd row and I tried to anticipate the turns to prepare for head-banging but didn't do so well. Rode it twice and I was done. We rode Roar a couple times in the center and it wasn't as bad as I expected. My stepdaughter loved it but she liked Wild One a whole lot better. Her and my sis marathon'd Wild One the first day we were there since there was an ERT for discover card and gold pass holders. I think they ended up with a total ride count of 19. I rode it 3 times once in the front, once in the middle and once in the back. I liked the middle best. It didn't hurt as much but it was probably the least exciting spot. I'm not a huge fan of woodies but I went on for the girls. Sis and I rode Batwing 5 times and I just couldn't get used to the restraints on this thing. I'm not a small chested woman and the G's just plain hurt. The barrel rolls gave me bruises in my armpits. Guess I should've kept my arms down. NOT! lol Sis kept saying she couldn't breathe and that her future children are going to be malnourished. I like Ultimate Flight at SFOG better than Batwing and Nighthawk at Carowinds. I lost count on how many times we rode Superman ROS and Joker's Jinx. We loved both of them so much. ROS ride ops were great until the last day. They like to squeeze you in so guys, be careful with that bar in the "middle" area. On JJ the ops were really good at playing with the riders. It was a lot of fun watching the trains fly out unexpectedly and the looks on people's faces. One guy kept asking if people were ready before they even checked the restraints. Talk about panic! It was great. Rajun Cajun was interesting. I'm not much for spinning rides but this one had all three of us laughing our arses off. Rode 3 times with the girls. The first and third time we spun like crazy but the 2nd time not so much. I'm not sure what the difference was other than different colored cars?? We sat in the same spots each time. I only rode Fireball once when my sis didn't want to ride it with SD. SD loved this thing. I've been on so many at county fairs over the years, it was nothing spectacular to me. She enjoyed it so, it made me happy. I rode the Voodoo Drop 4 times and 3 of those times the girls were with me. The first day they looked at it and said "no way!" So, I went alone on day one. I'm not sure what changed but they wanted to try it on the last day and then proceeded to go on it a bunch more with or without me. We rode Shipwreck falls once and got SOAKED! Had no idea it would be that wet. The girls really wanted to go and we were the first one's in on the very first day we were there so, none of us knew how it would be. They loved Pompeii at BGE and we thought this would be fun too. OMG! Bring a towel... (no picture, sorry) SD and I rode Renegade Rapids once, it was a nice peaceful ride through the woods with very little water. No waterfalls or geysers to worry about. Only people shooting with the water cannons which I never saw happen. (didn't get a good pic of this one either) I credit whored the Great Chase with SD. We were both bored but we can both mark that one off now! lol It didn't appear that you needed a kid with you but one guy on our train couldn't fit so he was booted. We did a couple of the other flats but not many. I kept looking at the Flyers but couldn't bring myself to try them. Circular repetition bothers me so, I didn't do it. Shows; We did watch all of the shows. That seems to happen when you're with kids at a park but they were entertaining. The best one is the EFX 3.0 in the Grand Theater. It was a nice air conditioned break and several surprises that had me in tears I was laughing so hard. Sit in the middle a little towards the front or a little towards the back. We ended up in here 4 times, going once per day. (the kids loved it) The dancers and stunt guys worked their butts off. I'm impressed only if it's because they did it all in the blazing June heat and all with a smile. I have to hand it to the people dressed up as the Looney Tunes characters as well. It was horribly hot out and they weren't just walking around to stop for a brief picture. They were actually acting like who they were dressed as. We saw Bugs and Daffy fighting, Sylvester chasing Tweety and Pepe purposed to me! haha Other than one group of teenagers on the first day that were a little rowdy and obnoxious, I never felt unsafe or threatened. Besides, they were escorted out by park security. Oh, and as far as food goes. It's typical park food but we had decent service everywhere we went. I have no complaints. The BEST we were treated was at the Goldrush Chicken Co. LOVE the people over there! All in all we had a good time for such a small park. It probably had a lot to do with being there with kids. If you're in the area, you should check it out. Any questions, feel free to ask! Thanks for reading!
blk_mamba Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Great trip report! You covered everything and posted some amazing pictures!
Rayj Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 What if minderaser got the new Kumbak trains like on T3 and Kumback referbished the ride.
boldikus Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 ^ Or they could melt it into the ground and build a Skyrush or Maverick clone. Hell, even a Batman clone would be light years better. I'm sure SF has never considered that but this park could use a great invert.
