Angry_Gumball Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 People forget, often, that though it seems like there is nowhere for parks to build coasters, there always is. If they want it bad enough, they will make it work. Simply saying they will never build it because the park is landlocked or appears to have no room is misleading, things can go over, under, through, and around other things- it does work and could help bring in more coasters to this park. Height restrictions are one thing but this has nothing to do with that. Have low expectations if you want but neither you, or I, or anybody else on here really knows what's going on. Maybe they won't put something in, maybe they will.... I agree 100% with this, the only they can't do is build underground because they will hit the water table(I believe that's the correct term) If they want it,they can build it! You're right on that, I remember something about that being mentioned at the Bash. Being optimistic (and perhaps being a CGA Fanboy, I have no shame in supporting my local park by the way!) I think CGA's going to get some form of new coaster. What, I don't know. My strongest feelings are that GCI that's been lingering and haunting us bay area folk (Here we go with CGA and ghosts again). Realistically, I don't see a hyper coming in any time soon. In the sense of future, I would totally love to see a blitz coaster (refusing to use the term "Maverick Clone"). Only time will really tell. And about CGA being an eyesore, too bright at night, etc. What do you think that stadium's going to be? Those field lights are going to wash out the sky completely, and the sounds of crowds cheering traveling through the neighborhood behind Flight Deck, as well as the sound of loud music, monster trucks (should some form of monster truck show occur at that venue), etc. The way I see it: if a stadium can happen, a coaster can definitely also happen. In terms of complaining businesses, they can shove it, move your business elsewhere if you want a quiet area...Yea, I know, it doesn't work that easily. Realistically, I do realize that games wouldn't really be happening during the week while businesses are open while the park would be during the summer months.
robman Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Just posted on Screamscape: New Coaster - Rumor - (12/8/11) Screamscape sources tell us that Cedar Fair management may have privately confirmed to GCA management that the park would get a new roller coaster for 2013. So the question remains… is it the long delayed GCI wooden coaster or something new? I'm really hoping that this is true!

Angry_Gumball Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Like I keep thinking....2013 I think will be the magic year for us. It would be nice to see something in 2012 to hold us over. As much as it doesn't say it anymore on the Mercury News page, it would be cool to see a new water slide attraction come into Boomerang Bay, something either like a speed slide, toilet bowl/tantrum, or a water coaster.
Rollercoaster Rider Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I Think if CGA wants a new Coaster, It'd be tough but they could relocate Psycho Mouse into the Pictorium and add the NEW Coaster where the Wild Mouse/ Go Karts are. OR Relocate the Kidsville Area to the area between Pictorium/Skycoaster and add the Coaster where Kidsville is/was OR Scrap Grizzly and add a New GCI/ Gravity Group Wooden Twister coaster
djw44 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Didn't Zorin already destroy Silicon Valley? I don't think Great America will have a problem with those microchip manufacturers anymore.

Flagg O'Dim Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I'm sorry, I know this coaster rumor is important and all, but I must ask: What the hell happened to the title of this thread? "California Great America Discussion Thread" ???? Okay, moving along...
jzoole Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Firstly, ^ totally never noticed that. Good question lol Secondly, I know some people on these boards think that MS Paint drawings are hilariously lame, but I find that making them is so much fun and such a great way to waste loads of my time, so whatever. Anyway, I think it would be great if CGA went ahead with the planned GCI at the front of the park for 2013, then in a couple of seasons, tore down that heap of wood Grizzly (which I'm sure would seem even worse with a great new woodie in the park for comparison) and replaced it with a compact, I305/Skyrush-esque hyper. So without any further ado, here's my crappy MS Paint rendering.

As much as everyone hates Grizzly, it isn't going anywhere as it is one of the most popular rides in the park and wooden coasters are extremely hard to move somewhere else. I think that a coaster can be built without destroying a coaster as CGA does not need another coaster removal.
DJeXeL Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 IF Grizzly were to be removed it wouldn't be relocated anywhere but a bonfire.
XYZ Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 IF Grizzly were to be removed it wouldn't be relocated anywhere but a bonfire. Exactly. Wooden coasters cannot be relocated, plus Grizzzly isn't much of an asset that other parks want.

Wooden coasters cannot be relocated, plus Grizzzly isn't much of an asset that other parks want. Don't say that to Knoebels, please. They might have to remove the Phoenix. And don't say that to Magic Springs- as the Tornado there might have to be removed, too. Or Wild World/Adventure World/Six Flags America... they might have to bring down the Wild One. I agree Grizzly would become firewood- but wooden coasters CAN and HAVE been moved before.

I just wouldn't want to lose the Grizzly if you hadn't received a previous coaster. On an unrelated note: That aerial picture is fairly old, it is pre Survivor/ Tiki Twirl.
metrock Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Even if they get a 'new' coaster, they're still down at least two right!? Actually, They'd be down 3 COASTERS 1- Greased Lightnin' 2- Stealth 3- Invertigo - 3 + 1 = 2 I really hope CF invests in CGA and turns the place around. It could easily be the top park in the area. By no means is SFDK a bad park, but it me it lacked the charm of Great America.
robman Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Here is my crazy idea where I thought a coaster could go ever since they removed Invertigo. The only two things that would be removed to make way for what ever type of compact coaster to fit in here is, The river boat "race" and the shooting gallery. No rides would be removed from the KidzVille area. I did cut off the employee cafe a little bit but I would imagine that it could stay. Remember, this is just an idea that I thought up of, I don't even know if a coaster could safely fit in this area. *Used MS paint that's why it looks bad.*
154bmag Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Use Tidal Waves station to make a Verbolten type of ride
pdcon Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 there going to give grizzly the rocky mountain makeover.
XYZ Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 there going to give grizzly the rocky mountain makeover. No, they won't. 2 reasons: 1. They just re-tracked a huge portion of the coaster 2. Grizzly is much smoother than much rougher CF woodies (e.g. GhostRider, Mean Streak, Timber Wolf)
Angry_Gumball Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 That hasn't even been confirmed let alone being a rumor. And currently Grizzly runs smoother than SFDK's Roar.
-Edge of Beast- Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 there going to give grizzly the rocky mountain makeover. What? From what I recall, no they aren't. This isn't even a rumor, it just sounds like you're creating an unbelievable one.
Tmcdllr Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Grizzly is much smoother than................... I think that is the first time I have ever seen those words used in a sentence....lol
robman Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 That hasn't even been confirmed let alone being a rumor. And currently Grizzly runs smoother than SFDK's Roar. If anyone has been on Roar and Grizzly in the past year, you know that it is very true.
pdcon Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I joke I joke, just throwing a crazy but possible idea out there, does there really have to be a rumor on these kind of things? not saying its going to happen, but its probably a whole lot cheaper to give it a RM Makeover then to destroy it and put a whole new Woodie or any coaster there.
XYZ Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Honestly, the 2013 coaster will be the GCI coaster, the permits are all in, the design is all in, the coaster is ready for construction, I would be shocked if it was something else. As for the waterpark ride, it may be a ProSlide Tornado or Bowl in the field in between Flight Deck's lake and Ripsnort Ridge/Screamin' Wombat.
