Bolliger&Mabillard
I don't think an exact clone would sit outcast to the other rides in the park. I think it should at least be taller than Colossus. A helix would be pretty bitchen, too.
Jew
I saw the theoretical for EK...will a ride with an hourlt capacity of 850 work for MM? Â I doubt the rides at SFMM get 850 an hour as it is right now!
kraken613
I can say that EK is awesome on smoothness and floater air time. If it was greased that day (or regreased as the ride ops said the rain washed it off), it would have been a solid number 2 in my books, but Raven is still my number 2. Â What? Water+Grease just make a ride faster and track slicker! Â My best rides on Thunderhead have been on rainy days!
ebl
"I'm so glad we didn't get a Dark Knight coaster." (PURE)  A Los Angeles Times article (I think in their online blog) mentioned that SFMM was offered the Dark Knight coaster that was supposed to go into SFNE, but SFMM turned it down.  As I've said, a "family coaster" can really be anything; it's just assumed that it would be something like The Dark Knight or a Tony Hawk ride. It could also be a good, medium sized woodie.  Eric  EDIT: No, it wasn't the L.A. Times blog, it was on Screamscape. If you go there, look for it sometime in the last few days. Bolliger&Mabillard
^^^Exactly my point. Deja Vu's theoretical is 870. That crew is considered to be "on fire" if they hit 300/hr.
JamesMC
I made a trip down to St. Louis a couple of weeks ago to ride EK- and I thought it was great. For such a short ride it packs a lot of punch! As an enthusiast I thought it was fun, but it is also a good choice as a family ride as well. Â Also-they did a bang up job of getting the trains out in a short time frame- I am sure they were running pretty close to theoretical guests per hour. Â As much as I hate to see any coaster meet the wrecking ball, if SFMM builds an EK-style coaster as Psyclone's replacement- then it was actually worth it this time around. robbalvey
As far as how an EK clone might be, they don't look like anything too extreme, so i can understand some room for disappointment, especially for teenagers. Hopefully what we get will be another 50 feet taller and another 500 feet longer. A woodie not breaking 3,000 feet in length is just too short a ride, IMO. Dude, why don't you just come out say "It doesn't matter what the park puts in, I think it's crap".....  But to respond seriously for a moment, I can think of PLENTY of great wood coasters 3,000 feet or shorter that are just FINE -  - Raven - Ravine Flyer II - Tremors - Thunderbird - Ozark Wildcat - Kentucky Rumbler - Timber Terror - Cornball Express - New Mexico Rattler - Silver Comet - Etc, etc, etc....  In fact, my top two GCI woodies (Rumber and Ozark) are both under 3,000 feet.  But if you want my thoughts on the subject then -  A. I personally don't think the park will get a Evel Knievel and  B. I believe PURE only point was to complain....AGAIN.  --Robb
kraken613
^ Yeah and those two are some of the best woodies in general!
Guest
That crew is considered to be "on fire" if they hit 300/hr 300 at Vu is cake, as long as the rides working for a full hour it was pretty common for us to get 500 at SFGAm...(thats with 4 people + a grouper, not sure how Magic staffs it). AllenA07
The length of the coaster isn't that big of a deal, as long as the ride packs a decent punch. As far as a few thoughts that I've got about SFMM 09 coaster: Â I'm still not totally sold on wood coming to the park in 2009. While I'm really hoping that the rumors are true, it would surprise me that the park would add another wooden coaster so soon after removing Psyclone. However regardless of if it happens this year or a few years down the road SFMM is going to add a wooden coaster in the somewhat near future so what do I expect to see: Â I'm not anticipating a clone. The park might go that way but I am actually expecting a smaller coaster that would utilize the terrain of the park. As far as stats (again these are what I think the park should do, these are in no way to be considered as rumors) I think a terrain based coaster with a 100-120 foot drop (again height can vary if terrain is used, I'm talking about total drop height), speeds in the high 50's low 60's, and a length somewhere around 3000 feet would be a great fit in the park. Put the ride on the Ninja side of the hill, and put the entrance somewhere over in the Psyclone Bay area. I think it would be good to get people moving to the back of the park again (other then Deja Vu, that area of the park is abandon). If the ride is terrain based and winding through the trees I think people have a good chance of seeing the ride and not thinking it is the same one they went on during their visit to the park 5 years before. I would be shocked (with a capital S) if we see another wooden coaster placed on the old Psyclone land. It would be a bad move because even though it is unbelievable here, for most people an unpainted wooden coaster looks the same as every other unpainted wooden coaster. Â While I would love an El Toro clone, it's just not going to happen. SFMM needs to add a coaster and not burden themselves with records or how extreme it is. My favorite ride in the park for many years has been Ninja. It's by no means because it is the most thrilling ride in the world, it is because it is a fun ride! It is ride that the entire family can enjoy. If SFMM would add a wooden coaster with stats in the basic range of what I said above, I think they would have a ride that, while not being the most extreme thrill machine, would please both enthusiasts and families alike. Manic Monte
^ I believe that Jay Thomas said point blank at WCB that the new ride WOULD NOT use the Psyclone plot of land, and that they had other plans for that area in the future. So unless things have changed, look to another area of the park. Â Also, I DO believe wood is coming for the very reason you say it's not. Removing Psyclone (as bad as that coaster had become) left a big hole in the park's line up. Lot's of steel with loops, very little non-looping family coasters. In a lot of ways, technology over the years has made the new breed of wood coasters as refined as steel, so adding one is not as big a risk as it once was. Â If the coaster is marketed right and placed in an all new area, it doesn't matter how soon since Psyclone. People always show up to ride wood coasters because they are ride the whole family can ride together. Even Colossus gets a major line on weekends. An EK clone would be awesome. An original design that uses some of the terrain? Possibly incredible.
Bolliger&Mabillard
300 at Vu is cake, as long as the rides working for a full hour it was pretty common for us to get 500 at SFGAm...(thats with 4 people + a grouper, not sure how Magic staffs it). Â I have never seen 4 checking at Deja Vu. Â I love that idea of putting the ride on the weak side of Ninjas hill, terrain basing it. Besides Rev, there is no genuine Terrain coaster which is sad when the park has so much landscaping to work with insde the park before the have to worry about expanding outward (I wishe the old management would have figured that out). Of course supporting wood track is not as convienient as putting two or three steel poles uo as a steel coaster, so this might be a tiny flaw with that particular layout scheme, but I'm not an engineer or a topagrapher, so I can't make that call. ebl
^ I don't know...I consider Ninja and Gold Rusher to both be terrain coasters, even though they're not that big. Even Tatsu is to some degree. Â Eric
Bolliger&Mabillard
^I completely forgot about Ninja!, Rusher I'll give some credit to, but Tatsu could still be a parking lot ride if the Pretzel were about 30ft. smaller. robbalvey
Wait...since when is Air a "terrain" coaster??? Just look at most of it's layout. It's above flat ground: Â Â Â Â I mean, in dives close to the ground in one or two spots, but no more than Tatsu does! Â I've been on Air, and other than maybe the lift hill I don't think it's a "terrain" coaster at all! Â Maybe you're thinking of Nemesis. Â --Robb
Bolliger&Mabillard
^I guess I am basing it on the lift. I guess all those trees around it create the illusion of terrain. My mistake.

It just lucks out because it's on a hill. Any coaster could be a parking lot coaster with the right supports. Tatsu has quite a bit of an elevation change along the track...it may be high in the air most of the time but it lies on a vast terrain. robbalvey
^ There are at least 3 locations that I've heard it's rumored to go. TheBannedKid
Agreed. Â This topic is already too many pages long on a coaster that isn't officially announced nor is there notable progress. Â TJ "Waits for announcement" MacLennan
AllenA07
As far as location goes we should start to see the first few markers showing up soon. When the park installed X I recall that I had taken pictures of some markers over a year before work started. When I took the pictures I had no idea that it was going to be for a coaster, I just took pictures because there was something going on there. I can't recall how long before markers for Scream! appeared, but I also remember shooting pictures of spray paint in the parking lot. I dismissed it as the park planning to do some work on the pavement. Point being that we should start to see at least the very beginnings of work soon. I wouldn't be shocked to hear that there were markings already there that nobody has really noticed, however I then remember what site this is and accept that if a rock moves more then about 2 feet, somebody on here will notice and take pictures.
