TPDave Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 At least Intamin can get the coaster (Kingda Ka) up and running without any problems. Ha! Ring racer definitely has more fundamental flaws, but Kingda Ka hasn't been completely untainted...
coasterlover420 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 ^^Yes, but Kingda Ka didn't EXPLODE :O [The grammar of that translation certainly makes it hard to read] What about LSMs? Aren't they a little different in terms of waste? Yes, because LIMs actually need more power to induce a current in the fins on the train, whereas LSMs have a permanent magnetic field that the LSMs interact with. LIMs actually don't have a field they can interact with until a current is sent through the stators to induce a field in the copper fins.
SharkTums Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 ^^The update is pretty much what I posted a month or two back. Don't count on this coaster EVER opening. Looks like Ferrari World will have quite a nice record breaker on their hands!
TXman308 Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 I know this old but if anyone wanted to see a video of Ring Racer Launching (Full view) http://vimeo.com/5591031
robbalvey Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 (edited) ^ Yes it's old, that video is from a year ago and testing videos have already been posted in this thread. Edited October 30, 2010 by robbalvey
Jds03 Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 I just realized that Formula Rossa completely erased my acknowledgment of this ride's existence.
beatle11 Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 ^I'm sure your not the only one. They definitely failed on this attempt. Won't be the fastest coaster now.
LcHg5265 Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 While Formula Rossa has a faster top speed, the proposed (if it ever opens) acceleration on Ring Racer would be much greater. I feel like the launch on Ring Racer would be significantly more intense than Formula Rossa.
SoCalCoasters Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 But is that a good thing? The human body can only handle so much, with faster accleration, the ride could cause discomfort. Just a thought...
Midgetman82 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 I just realized that Formula Rossa completely erased my acknowledgment of this ride's existence. You're not alone! This coaster does look like it has a very short distance for acceleration, but I don't think it would kill people. It would look more like the G-Force ride that used to be in Fun Town USA in Florida, except it would keep going and do some stuff.
SharkTums Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Did we ever do the calculations and figure out the theoretical acceleration of Ring Racer? I firmly believe that the acceleration of Dodonpa should not be surpassed as that was truly the limit of the human body. IIRC we had said that Ring Racer would have had a less forceful launch than Dodonpa, but more than almost any other launched coaster.
Hhappy Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 time to revive this topic It will probably not be the fastest coaster anymore.. but it looks like it will open next year.. Now i'm wondering (probably missed it (or dreaming too much)) but will this have new (4 in a row) trains or the original trains??
Moose Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 (edited) ^Is the (second) fastest coaster in the world really all that "family-friendly"? Edited November 19, 2010 by Moose
Hhappy Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 ^don't know.. which brings the next question.. Will it still operate at the planned speed or will they slow it down to make it more family friendly (with new trains)?
Lamoure Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 ^don't know.. which brings the next question..Will it still operate at the planned speed or will they slow it down to make it more family friendly (with new trains)? I think it will slow down, TO make it family friendly AND hopefully don't hurt people any more while exploding Another theory: Maybe a new 4seats-hyper will be build at the "ring".. but if i'm looking at the financial fiasco.. never
robbalvey Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 You guys are reading WAAAAY too much into that sign. The "family friendly" part was not tied into Nurburgring, it was just advertising that they "can" do family rides with this system, if a park wanted something like a Powder Keg designed for them. I was probably just poor placement of the sign.
Moose Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 ^I'm sorry I caused the confusion. I fully realised they weren't related, and was commenting on the poor signage.
Hhappy Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 darn it, i had a feeling i would be dreaming a little too much.. but it never hurst to have some hopes/dreams. Thanks for clearing them up.
aceospades1250 Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Did we ever do the calculations and figure out the theoretical acceleration of Ring Racer? I firmly believe that the acceleration of Dodonpa should not be surpassed as that was truly the limit of the human body. IIRC we had said that Ring Racer would have had a less forceful launch than Dodonpa, but more than almost any other launched coaster. The acceleration in Gs is defined by: G = s/(t*g) G= #of Gs s = speed in m/s t = time g = gravity, 9.8m/s^2 By my calculations Dodonpa pulls an incredible 2.71 Gs during it's launch. Ring Racer should pull 2.44 Gs, which is about halfway between Xcelerator's launch and Dodonpa's. It will still be one hell of a ride!
matteocrepaldi Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Does anyone have any update about this coaster?
Hhappy Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 (edited) Latest info i found online was that the first tests have taken place (again) no solid info regarding opening date etc.. Edited March 19, 2011 by Hhappy
Hhappy Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 (edited) time for another update: source RingRacer is scheduled to open in June (this year) with a speed of 160km/hour. For the planned top-speed of 217 km/hour more testing is needed. Runs with this speed should be plausible from 2012.. Edited March 25, 2011 by Hhappy
freefallXL Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 At least i hope it will *running contunuatly. Sad story so far, but well S&S seems to have several problems at this time. I like S&S Power, they made a few good coaster so far (Powder Keg: A Blast in the Wilderness as example, i like that fun-machine). I hope for this project that there will be no million grave and the coaster is finally running without interference. Instead of ending in disaster and in the scrapyard.
Hhappy Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Video from the first tests this year (march 5th) has surfaced.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsj-D4wigpU Guess they take it easy and will built up the launch speed till opening day
